Apple Juice. Sends me nuts.

Samia Ruponti (snoebell92) | 451 comments Just had a big fight with mom, she told me in so many words that I am an embarrassment to her because I am not beautiful and I am fat. I feel like everything I have ever accomplished is for nothing, because my own mother doesn't value it.

That's not good. Mother's can be so harsh! I'd try giving her the silent treatment for a while. Such a horrible thing to say to you though! ☹

message 4854: by Dana (new)

Dana | 887 comments Isn't she kinda insulting herself and your dad by calling you ugly? I mean she gave you your looks! I look a lot like my mom so if she said that to me I think I would just laugh.

No. my mom is actually beautiful, and so was my dad. Apparently I didn't get anything of their looks. :/

No...."

That's not necessarily a bad thing. I spend a lot of time trying to NOT look like my mum. Just because your mum said that you're not beautiful doesn't mean that other people will think the same.

message 4858: by Samia (new)

Samia Ruponti (snoebell92) | 451 comments Actually, I am not so disturbed about my face, or apparent ugliness. I have long ago accepted myself. It just hurts to think that even my mother can't see beneath my face, or my weight problem. I am not that overweight to be called an embarrassment.

I guess I am in the anger phase now.

On the other hand, now I understand, why so many of the "beautiful" girls I know are also anorexic, or on the way to become one.

I think society in general wants people to be skinny. It's really not that easy to lose the weight once it's on though. I've been dieting for years and haven't gotten all that far really.

message 4860: by Dr. Andy (new)

Dr. Andy | 14480 comments Being skinny is stupid, overrated and just plain unhealthy! If you want to change, you can only do it for yourself. Also never try to lose weight, that usually won't get you the results you want. Plus diets don't work. Don't starve yourself of things you love. Find things that are healthier alternatives like dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. Or a smoothie instead of a milk shake. If you want to look different, try to build muscle, you look awesome and be able to pack a punch! I've struggle with my own weight issues for most of my life and I've read all sorts of things. The best is to find something for you and accept who you are.

Rachael (classycupcakezz) | 5933 comments Can someone help me remember this book? It's fantasy and it's about a girl that gets taken from her home town (alot of girls were going missing from this same jungle) to some underground world of gnomes or something? Not actually gnomes but some other kind of fantastical creature that lives underground.. There was a king and queen and Aunt Mauve? The girl becomes friends with some of the little people who live in this world and they help her escape? Details are fuzzy.. does it sound familiar to anyone?

Not got a clue. sorry! I hate it when you remember the details of a book but can't remember which book it was ☹

I have't got a clue. There's a group that helps with that sort of thing though. Might get your answer there. https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Tati Is anyone going to go for Kindle Unlimited?

message 4870: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90920 comments Mod
Abbie and I have been talking about that all morning. I think we'll probabl do it in October and see how many books we can get through in a month!

message 4871: by Tati (new)

Tati I'm kinda angry at myself, as only two weeks ago I made the switch to the Brazilian Amazon (it was the same price, with the advantage that I don't have to depend on exchange rates and pay taxes). Guess I'll wait a bit and see if they launch it here as well

message 4872: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

that is annoying! i bugs me that you still can't lend books, or gift books on amazon uk.

Sarah (sarahsshelfcare) Tatiana wrote: "Is anyone going to go for Kindle Unlimited?"

I'm going to give the 30 day trial a go, see how I like it

message 4875: by Tati (new)

Tati Yeah, I just figured out that I misunderstood what it's about. I thought we got to keep the books, not that we could only have 10 at a time...

message 4876: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahsshelfcare) So it's really just like the kindle lending library only we can have up to 10 at a time?

message 4877: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments No, you don't get to keep them. You can take more out once you've give those 10 back.

message 4878: by Tati (new)

Tati Kind of, only there are no due dates.

message 4879: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahsshelfcare) I think I would rather just buy the books and keep them

message 4880: by Tati (new)

Tati Me too...

message 4881: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments I like to keep my books too, but £8 a month for that many free books is a really good price.

message 4882: by Tati (new)

Tati I guess I could read it on Kindle Unlimited and then, if I really like the book, buy it...

First, it has to become available in Brazil (maybe next year LOL)

message 4883: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahsshelfcare) Yeah but they can remove titles at anytime and if you are reading one they remove it just disappears from your kindle

The kindle lending library with prime membership is pants. it looks good, but they only let you borrow 1 book a month! rubbish! I think I'll give kindle unlimited a go, i probably won't have it for more than a month at a time though because of keeping up with review copies.

Irene (raenne) | 4856 comments I had such a great vacation! I saw a book one day, didn't buy it, and have regretted it ever since. I don't feel like reading anything else. I have ordered it of course, but it's the only book I wanna read! :/
Great vacation though! :D

message 4889: by Samia (new)

Samia Ruponti (snoebell92) | 451 comments Thanks Andrea. I didn't see your message before, but so true! I won't say I haven't tried starving, but I have realized that destroying my health isn't any answer (not that I have got that in abundance, a joint fight with typhoid and jaundice a few years back has made me pretty sickly). Just hurts to hear that all my mother sees is my body. never particularly enjoyed being the object of lust, and being a girl with a full figure from a very early age, I am damn happy that nobody finds me attractive now. I wouldn't have cared if my mom didn't say those words. I can ask for a special treatment from my mom, can't I?

I'll try to follow your advice though! I love chocolate!

Rachael (classycupcakezz) | 5933 comments Ah I figured out the book I was talking about.. It was Stolen Songbird (The Malediction Trilogy, #1) by Danielle L. Jensen and I must have given a really bad description of it because I know some of you have read it lol

Irene (raenne) | 4856 comments So... I've had quite a busy month! I'm still not back into my full mode, and am kind of working my way out of a reading slump. For that reason I'm withdrawing from my already planned buddy reads :/ I'm so sorry! I just need some time to get back into reading, and thought I would let you guys know. Hope it's okay! I'll be back in the game soon, I hope.

Maybe he meant he'd take him out for some exercise or something to burn off some nervous energy?
I'm british and I've never heard it before, other than going to run the car for a bit to warm it up.
