I am hoping someone would read and (or if read) vote for The Good Soldier Švejk, Rob Roy, Don Quixote and Ben-Hur so I could remove my votes... :-P

Okay, when I started this group (1/1/16) I had read 34 of the 130 books that were on the list at that time, resulting in a completion rate of 26%. As of today, I have read 42 of 142 equaling a 30% completion rate. So, I guess that means that my reading rate is improving - in just 3 short months. This group is awesome. Yeah!!!

Bob, that is a truly impressive record.
54% completion the first year
63% completion the second year
70% completion the third year
Sure looks like you are zeroing in on 100% to me.
April 2014 - 28/84 = 33%, 56 books unreadApril 2015 - 71/105 = 67%, 34 books unread
April 2016 - 104/142=73%, 38 books unread
I think the only reason I haven't fallen behind is that the group keeps selecting books I've already read. I didn't participate much last summer/fall, so if it hadn't have been for that happy coincidence, I probably would have been back to 50ish unread books.
I've read 26 of the 142 on the list. What's that? 18% "read"? Given that I spent my 20s and 30s reading mostly nonfiction, I'm actually surprised the number is as "high" as 26! ;)
Bob wrote: "You got to love math people percentages look so much better."Yep! Even "barely treading water" looks looks like an big jump if you take it as a percentage.

I've got Don Quixote on my list for this year but don't know when I'll be able to get to it. But once I do, I'll vote and let you know.
Last April I'd read 42, now I've read 80 and I'm currently reading another 3. This is better than I thought!

What is this vote everyone is talking about?"
It's this list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...
Tytti created the list and apparently I think to compile the list you have to vote on it.

What a great help this list is - I quickly added the books on the list that was not allready on my tbr - and quickly calculated my score to be 111/142 :-)
92/142 read
25 already on my TBR
There are a few on the list that I don't actually want to read (or at least I have a lot of others on the TBR that would be way out in front of them).

I'm doing my part to balance out the group by making negative progress! :-) I said I had 38 but it was really only 21 on my read shelf. There are lots of books I've read that I don't remember well enough to rate. I guess have some re-reading ahead of me, like I'm happily doing right now with To the Lighthouse!

Like when I was 10, my dad was 40 or 4 times older than me. 20 years later when he was 60 and I was 30, he was only 2 times older than me. If we both live long enough, I may pass him! Hahaha.

You certainly have quite the impressive credentials in the math/science department - I applaud you - you can definitely do back-flips over me. When I put those figures together I was simply trying to find an easy way to track my progress with my reading. I decided to look at snapshots in time rather than using the total number of books as a constant divisor (since in January I didn't know how many books there would be on the list now - that way I wouldn't have to recalculate my figures every time). Anyway, I would love hear about it if you have a more accurate/simpler/funner way of charting my/our progress here in this group. I am all ears when it comes to math problems. Thanks for responding to my post. ;-)
Bat-Cat, please accept my apology if I have offended you. I thought you were making a numbers joke, which is why I included my example. I should have realized my mistake as this is a site dedicated to books. I am far from being an expert in anything, except putting my foot in my mouth, which I seem to be very good at. I think we are all members of this group to share our love for books and reading while enhancing our enjoyment by discussing what we have read. You have done very well reading the group's bookshelf during your short time as a member, far better than I have. I wish you continued success and as always, happy reading. :-D
Niles, no need to worry, there's been no putting your foot in your mouth, I think everything has been said in fun. Sometimes it's hard to know if posts have been taken too seriously, when they were meant in a friendly manner and wires get crossed in an online platform. No harm done, we're all friends here, whether discussing books or not. I love fun maths, how you can see patterns in numbers and how they can almost do tricks. Unfortunately studying maths was a completely different thing for me, learning complicated functions that I've never needed again.
Niles wrote: "Bat-Cat, please accept my apology if I have offended you. I thought you were making a numbers joke, which is why I included my example. I am new to GoodReads, and new to social media as well, and in my short time exploring it I have come to realize that it is sometimes way too easy for words and messages to be misconstrued. As a result, I try my best to take my time with what I say and how I say it but is still remains, at least for me, an inadequate means of communication, prone to misunderstanding - but, it certainly is fantastic for so many things that I forgive it it's drawbacks. ;-)
I was being completely sincere when I queried if you had another approach to tracking progress (oh, and mine could be so much better) because I am a math nerd and my brain just loves thinking that way and any new way of analyzing numbers is a joy for me.
My work and personal schedules are often quite busy resulting in my participation with this group being rather sporadic; but I do try to keep up with reading all the new posts and responding if the need arises - this one seemed to me to require immediate attention since I didn't want you to feel stressed in any way about this. I certainly look forward to getting to know you more through the discussions and such - us older folks need to stick together. ;-)
OK so Jane Eyre brings me up to 26and I have about 15 more planned for the rest of 2016
let's see if I can crack 40 by New Year!

Nice aim!
Glancing through the list, almost all of them I want to read ...soon. Haha, so as unrealistic as I may be, I enjoy being ambitious, so I can't set myself a limit ...

Bravo, Duane! I need to recheck my status. I will consider this list when I am making up my challenges for next year.

Well, then, you must get a move on and finish reading those 41 you haven't read! ... Haha, I kid, I kid. Wow, that's an amazing number of books you've read, of an amazing list of books!

I think everyone's doing really well, whether you've read a little or a lot, you either have some favourite classics to discuss or lots to look forward to. I've read many more than I expected to when I first joined this group, though I'm a long, long way off from getting them all finished!
I'm nowhere close. But in the last two months since I joined I've definitely gotten motivated to read more classics and a variety of books in general. It also goes back to what is a classic- still most books on shelf by Americans and Europeans, not as many by South Americans, Africans, Asians. Yet those books are still considered classics, and I tend to read more of those than the European books. Guess I will have to nominate one of them ;)

I agree that it will be nice to get more classics from other continents on our bookshelf.

Dreaded counting but happily surprised with 56. Loads waiting on my bookshelves, vying for my attention. I'd love to find out about classics from other cultures too and forgotten authors (the Women’s Century Challenge is a great idea).

I've just joined and have read 43 books from the list so far, hoping the group will inspire me to read more. I already have copies of a few others on the list. So I'm hoping ones I own copies for will come up as group reads soon.
