How many have you read? (Reading the books on our group bookshelf)

Thanks Tytti!
Listopia lists can get really cluttered with garbage that you're not allowed to remove if you don't have a good description, so I added one. I'm sure it could be better, though!
I also took the liberty of slightly adjusting the Listopia name to help prevent spam.
If anyone has a better description and doesn't have rights to edit it, let me know or post a comment on the list and I can update it. Same if you see some garbage sneaking onto the list or duplicates popping up.
Bob wrote: "This list was originally created by Melanti, any thanks should go to her. ..."Nope, not me! The list was originally MK's doing, so thanks should go to her instead. I just stole it and updated it with the recent group read choices.
Thanks, Melanti, now it just needs more voters. It would be interesting to see what is the most read and/or best book according to the group members. I wonder should we also ask that only the group members would vote? It might give an idea what would to nominate for a re-read.
Tytti wrote: "I wonder should we also ask that only the group members would vote? It might give an idea what would to nominate for a re-read. ..."I'm not sure that's allowed since they're supposed to be a Goodreads wide resource... And it'd be unenforcable anyway.
It would be unenforcable but most people would probably respect the request, and after all everyone can join the group. There are also lists for people born in the 1980's for example, so I don't think it's unheard of. Actually in another group's list there is a similar request.

If you find a way, let me know (I'm too lazy to count too!)
I've read 22the way I used was to change the Per Page setting to 200 so that all 136 (currently) are listed at once
then scroll down counting which ones have yellow star ratings (this assumes that you've rated all your read books, which I have!)
Tytti - it looks like anyone can add up to 100 books to your list, so it would only take 2 people to put in a bit of effort to get all 136 on there...
I'm happy to be one such (I've already made a start!) - anyone want to volunteer to be the other...?

I forgot, MK was a great organizer, however I stole/borrowed the idea from you earlier this year.

actually, it looks like anyone can add as many books as they want to a Listopia(!), you are just limited to 100 votes - if you add a book and remove your vote the book stays on the list with zero votes!so I could just do all of them...?
Darren wrote: "Tytti - it looks like anyone can add up to 100 books to your list, so it would only take 2 people to put in a bit of effort to get all 136 on there..."Yes, I know but I'm not sure if it's necessary if the people who have read more would first vote and add their books. (Maybe the last few can be added.) Of course someone could add them and check sometimes if people have voted for the books so they could unvote those they haven't read... (I have made some lists and it's always a shame that you sort of lose you own vote.)
Also no, I don't think they'll stay. They just don't get removed immediately.
ah yes, the zero votes ones have disappeared - that's good in a way (e.g. if somebody accidentally adds a book that isn't on the group shelf it can be got rid of)but it does mean we'd need at least 2 people to make "placeholder votes" to get all the titles onto the list (these could be removed once the title got at least one "real" vote)
the point of having a "complete" list would be that people could see instantaneously the message:
"You've read X of these books and Y are on your to-read shelf."
I'm happy to put in "placeholder" votes (say down as far as Tess Of The D'Urbervilles when listed alphabetically) if somebody wants to do the others...?
I just listed most of the ones that I've read... (I refuse to vote for Dickens)So if anyone wants to do the rest - here's my running list of which group books I have and haven't read. If someone wants, they could vote for the other 40 or 50 listed at the top or under the first two spoiler tags.

I've currently read 99 of 139. Still working on the 3 monster tomes, War and Peace, Don Quixote, and The Count of Monte Cristo.
I'm willing, but I'm not understanding what you want me to do. Disclosure, I haven't read all the posts in this thread.
To vote and especially add the missing books to this list:https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9... :-)
I was hoping that you would have read most of the 30+ books that this group has read but no one has yet added/voted.
Wow, great work everyone! It looks like there's only 20 books missing from the listopia list, but I have no idea which ones they are. So they disappear from the list without any placeholder votes, I'm not sure I understand this!?!
If someone has voted them and then removed their vote, they will be gone in minutes. Unless of course someone else has also voted for the same book. Then again, if no one has voted for them, I guess they haven' been read either. (Unless someone has read over 100 books and can't vote for more.)
I have added 15 books that I have read that were not on this list but are on the group bookshelf. They are:Middlemarch
Madame Bovary
Mrs. Dalloway
A Tale of Two Cities
The Portrait of a Lady
Sense and Sensibility
The Beautiful and Damned
David Copperfield
North and South
A Christmas Carol
The Three Musketeers
Les Miserables
A Farewell to Arms
Oliver Twist
Moby Dick
So now I see 129 books on the list, all with at least 1 vote, so I'm guessing someone is still posting them all. It's good to see how many books I've read at a glance, the only problem is that the total is out of the top 100 books on the list, not all of them, so I'd still manually need to go through and count them. A shame that it's capped at 100.

Thanks, Duane!Would it be too much to ask if you could also easily see what you haven't read out of the group reads and list them here, too? Then one would only have to go through some 40 books to see which ones are still missing?
ETA: Oh, I missed your last reply. Though on the "all" shelf there are 139 books.

I have many shelved as owned or something else.
I added: The Good Soldier Švejk by Jaroslav Hašek
The Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk
Rob Roy by Walter Scott
Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
The Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy
Only one seems to be missing now, I wonder what that is...

What about Catch 22 and Paradise Lost?
Well... Catch 22 and Ben Hur aren't on it yet...But htat would make one too many... So which one is wrong?
I added Catch-22 and Ben-Hur, Paradise Lost was there already. And it's 140... There are no duplicates but there might be a different version of the book, like one with two short stories or something.
Ah! Atonement is the problem. It's one that was published after 2000, so it was removed from the group's bookshelves when we made an exact definition of what a contemporary classic was, but I left it on my version of the list cause I'd already read it.
Book is now deleted and the list is back to 139 books.
Thanks so much you guys. What an amazing effort - a true labor of love. I am happy, as well, to report that I underestimated my initial count. I have read 35 of the books on the list. Yeah!!!!
Duane, yes I can see page 2 and so add up all the books, but the handy feature at the side telling us how many we've read is only out of the top 100 books on the list, not out of 139. I think I might have the problem with alternative shelf names too. Oh well, it's not perfect for individual book counts, but it's great as a group feature. I'll add my votes when I'm not on my phone.

I see what you mean. It only counts the books read for the 1st 100. Maybe that's something a librarian could fix?
Duane wrote: "Maybe that's something a librarian could fix?"No, it's designed like that.
Pink, maybe this could be added somewhere where others, who have not been reading this thread, could see it, too.
Tytti wrote: "Duane wrote: "Maybe that's something a librarian could fix?"No, it's designed like that. ..."
Yep. Unfortunately, it only gives totals for the first page...
Might not make as much sense for THIS listopia, but there are others that have tens of thousands of books listed, so I think it's set up that way so that it doesn't have to query the full list. It's rather annoying.
Tytti, yes I'll post a link in the announcements thread for others to notice tomorrow, when I'm not in my phone. Bob, I think you've posted the second comment on this thread, albeit a while ago, but perhaps you can edit and include a link there too for newer members to notice.
Wow--nicely done. I am again amazed at this great group! I'm clocking in at 38, but that includes a few I read in high school that I don't remember that well. So many good ones here ...
What an amazing teamwork to put that list up! Well done everyone who cooperated! I've only read 9 books of this list, so still plenty to discover.
April 24, 2014 I was at 45/84. April 6, 2015 I was at 66/105, today April 5, 2016 I am at 100/142. In 2014- 39 books short, in 2015- 39 books short, in 2016- 42 books short, I see a trend.
From April of 2014 to April of 2016 the group has added 58 books I have read 55. I'm three books short of breaking even. Take away the books I will probably never read and I don't think I will ever completely read the group bookshelf.
But it's fun to try!!

I've read 20 :) and I think I've read some pretty cool ones too. So no pity necessary fellow readers! ;)
I'd like to see how that changes, like by the end of the year :)
