Wait til you get to book 10 (insert evil laughter)"

Haha, I'm mentally preparing myself for it. All I've heard is that not even Robert Jordan was happy with it, though Knife of Dreams is said to be much better and so are Brandon Sanderson's contribution, so that'll probably be more than enough to pull me through it!

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Finished The Casual Vacancy last night. It was pretty good and well written, just slow in parts. If anything it proved to me that Rowling could probably write in any genre. She really knows how to do characters too.

Next up is The Emperor's Soul :)

Ashley Carter I'm on the The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

message 54: by Pedro (new)

Pedro António Finished And Then There Were None and even with all the hype I must say I'm impressed. Not that it's a long book but I just couldn't put it down from beginning to end. I did feel stupid when I guessed wrong even though I reread several parts and made notes on everything I found relevant, but I suppose that's a good thing right? Feel free to read my review here.

Starting Winter's Heart now, hopefully won't be too far from catching up when A Memory of Light comes out! (wishful thinking haha)

Currently reading Lord Foul's bane by Stephen R. Donaldson and listening to Dragon Reborn by Jordan.

Going to start a Feast for Crows by George RR Martin after i finish Lord Foul's bane. If there's time I hope to work in the Blinding Knife by Brent Weeks :)

Why don't you read the discussion thread to see how people like it?

That was the first Stephen king book I read and it was great, I am going to read the whole series now. I will check out the discussion thread thanks

Pedro António Just finished Winter's Heart and wow was I impressed with it. Maybe my standards were a bit low after how slow the first two thirds of The Path of Daggers but I found that Robert Jordan finally got the pacing right with this one and it was an absolute pleasure to read from start to end. You can check my full review here .

Going to read Fevre Dream next. A Song of Ice and Fire is all I've read from George R.R. Martin, and since we'll have a LONG time to wait for the next entry in the series it seems as good a time as any to check out what else he's written!
It'll probably also help in preparing myself for Crossroads of Twilight, maybe my expectations for it will be so low I'll be the one person to actually enjoy it? (wishful thinking!)

message 64: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished The Bones of the Old Ones, which I highly recommend, and started the Obsidian and Blood omnibus by Aliette de Bodard.

(Does it count as "urban fantasy" if the city in question is Tenochtitlan at the height of the Aztec empire?)

message 65: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments And I finished Obsidian and Blood (quite good and very different) and moved on to The Witch's Head, the second, I believe, novel by H. Rider Haggard.

message 66: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments And finished The Witch's Head (I had a lot of reading time on the bus) and started Stealer of Flesh by William King.

message 67: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Stealer of Flesh (sword & sorcery in the classic mode) and started Swords against Tomorrow, an anthology of sword & sorcery stories from back in the day.

message 68: by Megan (new)

Megan Donnelly | 7 comments I'm reading the Naming, first in the Pellinor series. It's an okay story so far.

message 69: by Razmatus (new)

Razmatus | 208 comments about to start Orb Sceptre Throne today :)))

I'm onGeist, enjoying it so far.

message 71: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments FinishedThe Emperor's Soul last night. Not my favorite magic system Sanderson came up with, but I enjoyed the story.

message 72: by Pedro (new)

Pedro António Just finished Crossroads of Twilight and... fine, everyone who warned me was right. This book is an abomination. I had a really hard time getting through it and it definitely wasn't a rewarding experience. For what it's worth the ending is one of the most satisfying ever, if only because the book is actually over.
Feel free to read my full review here. Me, I just want to pretend it never happened and move on to better things! Really looking forward to Knife of Dreams as it's meant to be a lot better and I'm done with what's thought of as the weakest point of the series.

So I end the year feeling a bit more literate I'm finishing it with 1984. I've had the book lying around for ages and it's almost embarassing I still haven't read it!

message 73: by Todd (new)

Todd (Motorcycleman) I've seen The Way of Kings interspersed throughout the posts. Well, I'm reading it too! And loving it so far. It's vivid and conceptually well constructed. I've not read Sanderson and this is a treat.

message 74: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelly_) I haven't had as much time to read lately, but I just finished The Wool Omnibus by Hugh Howey. I really enjoyed it.

message 76: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Swords against Tomorrow and decided it was time to get caught up on the Dresden Files, which means beginning with Side Jobs: Stories From the Dresden Files.

message 77: by Pedro (new)

Pedro António Just finished 1984 and after Crossroads of Twilight it felt like a much needed breath of fresh air. I can't believe it took me this long to finally read it! Wow, what a masterpiece. I've been thinking about it for hours after finishing it and it'll definitely take a while for me to fully digest everything this book made me feel. Feel free to check out my review here, though I very much doubt I could ever do the book justice in words.

Next up is Knife of Dreams which will hopefully pick up the pace after the bore fest that the last one was.

message 78: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Side Jobs: Stories From the Dresden Files and will be going straight into Ghost Story, both obviously by Jim Butcher. It's been a few years and I'd forgotten just how much I like Harry Dresden.
