If you say so! :) Twisted and Speak are both still checked out... curse you school library! I've been waiting a few weeks, and it's making me want to hunt down the people who checked them out and strangle them until they relinquish their books! Just kidding, but it's really frustrating when 30 books on my TBR list are supposed to be at the library, but they are all checked out. I guess I'll just weather it out.

Sorry Kelly Kissed/Crossed don't count as a rhyme for that task

Bonnie | 271 comments Rory wrote: "Bonnie: I read this book when I was a kid. Thank you for reminding me of it! I loved how it was written (I've got the memory of a flea but I think it was letters, right?).

No problem! It was written in letters, except for a very brief opening that was narrative. I'm glad other people on the board have read the book and loved it. I heard about it a tiny bit as a kid, but no one I knew ever recommended it to me.

Steph wrote: "Bonnie - Thank you so much for sharing the fullbooks.com link! I never knew - and now I am really excited.

You're welcome! I generally prefer having the physical book in my hands to read, but when a book is hard to find/a public library is far away, it's a nice alternative.

message 2955: by Avory (new)

Avory Faucette (avoryfaucette) Thanks for the rhyme challenge suggestions - one of the books I was going to use for that I really want to read, but I may switch. We shall see.

Also, for those having trouble with rhyming, maybe I can explain. Some of the suggestions (kissed/crossed being the most recent) are examples of slant rhyme, which doesn't count for this challenge. For a straight, pure rhyme, what you need is matching vowel *and* consonant sounds, same number of syllables, basically everything is the same except for the first consonant sound. For example, change/strange, but not change/page (last consonant sound is different). Or, teased/pleased but not teased/missed (different vowel sound). Does that help?

message 2956: by Avory (new)

Avory Faucette (avoryfaucette) (Wait, actually, I'm wrong on the same number of syllables now that I think about it - you can have an extra syllable on the front end like change/arrange. What you can't have is extra syllables/sounds at the end, like change/arranging.)

That is frusturating. Does your library have a hold system, where you can request that they come to you next? It is one of my favorite things... Makes getting books so much easier! It is also nice, because, at least at my library, if someone puts the book on hold, the person who has the book is no longer allowed to renew the item. That's also a nice feature...!
I really hope you read the other two, because they are way better. Just amazing! Good luck getting your books!

On the Halse-Anderson thread, has anyone read her brand new one, Wintergirls? It's about an anorexic teenager. I saw it in Borders yesterday, but didn't want to buy it in hardback if it wasn't awesome (I learned my lesson when I purchased Prom). Let me know!

PS - I adore all of her books except Prom. Catalyst is far and away my personal favorite, but I think Speak is her best overall work. I taught Speak to my eighth graders and they loved it as well.

I haven't read it, but I plan to. From everything that I have heard, Prom is sort of an exception to everything else she writes. I haven't read it, but everything that people say is that it was an abberation. But, you could try checking your local library. They might have a copy you could read before you buy...
I thought it looked really interesting, and will probably read it after the semester is over, when I'm not stealing homework time to read...! If you do read it, let me know what you think! Have you read Chains? I believe it's the one that came out just before Wintergirls... I thought it looked really interesting, but haven't had a chance to pick it up yet...

Jessica - What did you think of that book? I read it a few months ago and remember it being difficult to get used to the vernacular that they used at first - but eventually coming around to it. I thought it was a very stark, raw portrayal of life at that time in Ireland and did not glamorize it at all.

They do not have Wintergirls! I put in a request so hopefully they will either buy it or utilize ILL (which I love).

Manday | 212 comments For Sara's Task (25.9), for the title of 12 or more words, does this count the subtitle?

More specifically, could I count The Geography of Bliss: One Grump's Search for the Happiest Place in the World , or is the title considered to be just The Geography of Bliss

Let me know :)

message 2999: by Meghan (new)

Meghan (meghanly) | 218 comments I hope so, because if you look at mine above, I included the subtitle. Uh oh.

message 3000: by Eva-Marie (new)

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) I included the sub title too and some others did as well and I didn't see anything about it not being allowed. I would think it's okay. I read Through The Storm A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World
