Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just finished my pick for 1991 - "Women of the Silk" by Gail Tsukiyama. My rating is actually 3.5 stars. The book was well-done and simply written with good descriptions, however I felt like there was little in the way of character development. There seemed to be a very stoic approach to the story. Well-done but not fabulous.

Ashley If I have missed any of your updates, please let me know. If you are keeping up in your "Member's Corner" thread, may I please ask that you update here periodically also? You don't have to list all of your books...just numbers. It would make it sooo easier than having to go back and forth.

Thanks a bunch! :)

I always update the challenge thread as well as my "corner," but would you like us to update our post in the thread, or create a new post for each update? I've just been updating my post to cut down on the clutter, but I'm not sure if that's easy for you to track.

Not sure how to do that, sorry, but if you want to start with the most popular books in a given year, this might help:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/popular...

You can replace the "2012" in the URL with another year, or select the desired year in the drop-down menu on the right side of the page.

message 112: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 177 comments I usually go look at the books on my to- read shelf. I put tons of books on my TBR shelf that finding a book for a specific year becomes as simple as sorted by publication date,

Nik, if every one or two weeks you'd post a new comment on your progress, that would be great. It might be cluttered, but somehow it is easier for me to keep track of everyone's progress.

I guess you could say I like clutter, lol!

I love your list, Lisa! A lot of those are books I love or ones I want to read too. I'm reading The Reader right now :-)

message 122: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 5 comments Thanks Kaitlin! I made the list by going through all the years and picking those that have been on my eternal TBR list, if there were any in that year. Usually, I think challenges are good to read new books or authors you normally wouldn't have read, but I think this challenge is perfect for getting me to finally add some checkmarks on that TBR list :)

What do you think of The Reader so far? I really need to read that one, I am German after all :)

The Reader is weird - interesting, but weird. It's well written but there isn't a lot to it - it's much shorter than it seems. I just got to the part about the trial, which I thought would be central to the book, but it doesn't come in until more than halfway through.

Let me know what you think as you go through your list!

Right? I've been around Goodreads for a while, but never really got involved in the community until now, and this is one of my first challenges, too. I'm really enjoying it! I think I like the yearly challenges the most; I'm finding that the quarterly challenges are just a bit too stressful for me since I don't love racing my way through books. Anyway, welcome and have fun! =)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my selection for 2002 - "The Art of Hearing Heartbeats" by Jan-Philipp Sendker. I appreciated this book for the concepts it contained and it's different view of the world. The writing was good and discussed a part of the world with which I am unfamiliar. However, I did feel like it dragged in certain parts. I have a feeling I will be thinking about this book for several days. Overall, well done and recommend. 4 stars.

I did feel like editing would have helped, particularly at the end, to streamline the narrative. Overall, entertaining and worth reading! 4 stars.
