good gracious! that is terrible; so sorry to hear that. best thing is to just be there. i don't say a word, i just let them talk.

Story: My work-buddy lost her daughter to domestic violence. She was shot and killed in front of her home. When i went to my buddy's house; tons of people were there nit-picking and asking questions. i could see how uncomfortable my friend was; and she was completely broken. i just sat there. put some food in front of her and told people to just hush. eventually they realized it was not about their discomfort with not knowing what to say; but about her need to vent, be angry and to just cry in her own space.

take a step back... just provide.

Dan (dan2345) | 304 comments 10:42pm here. Just got back from mixed martial arts class. I used to go all the time for years but had to quit about two or three years ago. Tonight was my first night back. It was great!

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Michelle, so sorry to hear. Alondra provided perfect advice.

10:58 p.m. EST Just woke up from a nap when I heard my husband exit his car outside. Really dazed. Was dreaming about becoming invulnerable and someone trying to whisk away the box with a cobra and poisoned wine before I noticed, but I had already noticed, and then I grabbed the cobra and was trying to send it back home but it escaped my grip and attacked some people so I had to let someone kill the poor thing. Weird.... *shakes head*

What? I like snakes...

10:38PM Just got in after a long day out. But it was so much fun to be out. Also got to stop for new books! WOOT Mama is a happy camper!

Michelle, sorry to hear your sad sad news, my heart is with you!

Alondra also a very sad story! My heart is also with you and your family!

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 11:40 p.m. EST just chatting with some folks on FB. My 2nd ex-husband provided a perfect example of why he's an ex... despite the fact that we have been, and are still, good friends for years. But as partners? WAAAAAAYYYYY too different... ;-) Have a gas-station cappuccino, slowly waking up, visions of cobras no longer dancing in my head. Soon it'll be time for more reading. Today's selection: Nearly Departed in Deadwood. What a completely different book than The Book of Paul, which I finished earlier today!! Like Silence of the Lamb to Mary Poppins...

Oh really? Which fighting style do you study? LOL..it is very fun and don't be hard on yourself...everyone feels like they suck at it when they do it.

message 1414: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Hey, Michelle. If I could record my dreams and play them back, I think I'd have some great stories to tell. In this one, that was just the ending part of the dream. there was an earlier part, too, which involved my best friend and something to do with him visiting... weird stuff... Heh.

11:53 p.m. EST looks like I'm almost outta here. But e-mails keep coming through and slowing my departure into my books!

That's pretty much what I do too. It's Karate mixed with Kickboxing, traditional boxing as well as grappling (wrestling/fighting on the ground). I really want to make black belt!

message 1418: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) | 757 comments That would be so awesome to make black belt. A guy I work with just got his, needless to say I'm not going to mess with him any time soon ;) I love the traditional boxing, it's probably my favourite. Kicking is so hard :/

I love boxing too. Yes kicking is hard, but luckily I'm very flexible so I can get my leg up pretty high. Making black belt is my dream. Right now I'm a green belt and that's half way there. I love martial arts. I've only been in one or two situations where I've had to use it. LOL...it works!

Yes I am back. LOL. My old instructor...unfortunatley he retired :( ....took Yoga to help with his flexibiltity. When I'm kicking the pads or the bag I try to kick as high as I can and when we do stretching excercises I try really hard to push my flexibility to the limit. Of course...one time I did that and I woke up the next day and my inner thigh was all black and blue!

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 2:33 a.m. EST just popping in to make a couple notes on my pending review (I have to write things when I think of them or they'll be gone) and clear out what e-mail arrived, then back to reading. There are three books in this series, but I'm not really in the mood for this sort of thing, so I think once I finish this I'll move on to something else until I'm in more of a mood for this sort of book.

It's 3:27am on a cold and snowy night, and insomnia is my friend again tonight. Looks like we have about 2 inches of snow so far. Traffic will be bad today, no one here knows how to drive in snow, they really freak out. (This won't affect me since I don't drive any more, but I feel sorry for my hub who has to go to work.)

Michelle, so sorry for your loss. *Hugs*

Kathryn, I really appreciated your post. I didn't realize Project Runway was on again. (It's one of my guilty pleasures.) We miss your posts, but glad your new job is going so well.

Off to make some coffee, then to some reading I think.

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 4:31 a.m. EST Had to check Amazon for my daily freebies on my wishlist (none today) and give the cats some gooshy food, so checking my e-mail while I'm at it! I went to the Feedback group a bit ago 'cause I wanted to suggest they let us "like" reviews from the feed, and found someone already suggested it... last JULY... and it has not been responded to by anyone but me and one other guy also asking for it. Isn't it weird that we can like status updates and such, but not the actual review? I wonder why they've done that? Weeeeiiiiirrrrrrdddd....

Dan (dan2345) | 304 comments 12:44am here. Just pounding beers and watching Dylan Dog:Dead of Night. This movie has vampires, werewolves and zombies in it!

When it first came out and I saw the previews for it, I thought it looked cheesy. And I was like "Is that the guy from Superman Returns fighting monsters?".

Well, I decided to watch it and it is actually pretty good so far. I think the vampire/werewolf/zombie etc. make up and prosthetics is pretty good. I am a big fan of all that monster prosthetic stuff as I am always a vampire for Halloween (I'd love to show you guys pics of me dressed up as a vamp..lol). No, aside from the special effects and stuff the story is pretty good.

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 7:11 a.m. EST It is SO FREAKIN' COLD this morning. Brrrrr. I wanted to finish this book I started, Editorial, before I went to sleep, but just couldn't do it and finally passed out last night around 8 and just woke up about a half hour ago. Just been trying to maneuver my way around our dear, sweet Alice, who keeps popping up to annoy me. I suppose it's everyone checking in first thing in the morning, a time when I'm normally either asleep or editing... So, it'll be another day awake for me as a result. Feels weird to be awake when it's bright out! Still, it's supposed to be in the lower 50s today. Maybe I can find a sheltered spot of sun and spend a bit of time outside today. Or maybe not. Last time I tried the wind about killed me!

All my best to all my Bookworm Buddies this morning. Kyle, it becomes easier over time to remember the good times, but don't be afraid to let yourself grieve or it will catch up to you at the most inconvenient times. A lot of people don't understand it, but those of us who have let special animal friends into our hearts... we do. *hugs*

Dan (dan2345) | 304 comments 8:33am here. Um.....remember how I was talking about that movie last night......Dylan Dog:Dead of Night? Yeah, well, I watched the end of it and it wasn't that good. Actually it was kind of a joke. I mean the zombies go to a support group and they're supposed to be all cute. A lot of corny one-liners..and what was up with the fake guns? Also, hated the ending.

Well, it turns out that the movie was based off a comic book...and I LOVE comic books and graphic novels...especially if they are about monsters or horror. LOL. Supposedly there is going to be a sequel to the movie. I won't be going to see that but I think I'm going to check out the comic..it looks pretty good.

Let's see...what's going on today? Oh yeah, I have a date later. lol.

7:37AM Good Morning GR> WOOT we finally got out of a rent car that was 'killing' us financially! So excited. We ended up getting a 2010 Silver Ford Fusion. Only 48,000 miles. Runs like a dream! Saving $300 a month! YAY! So now here I am checking things out, gonna continue my journeys through NightMares & Dreamscapes. Gotta say overall not impressed. Loved Dolan's Cadillac. Read 3 others of them and well....they did not do a thing for me. Have a great day everyone.

Kyle I only had to put down one pet and that killed me. It was our 2 year old pit bull mix. He had lymphoma. He was such a sweetheart and died way too soon. He was a rescue.

message 1450: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Dan, good luck with your date! Janie, glad to hear the news about your car. And sorry about your dog :-( We used to rescue and raise rats, so we had to put down a number of them when they became too old to have their tumors removed (one we actually probably spend a couple GRAND removing tumors before she became too old to go through the surgeries anymore, but she was our first and we were very fond of her), and it never became any easier. Then there was the one we lost because she couldn't have her babies. We lost her AND her 14 babies, which were from our favorite buck :-( I still cry if I think about it too much, and that was YEARS ago. Usually rats have no problem having babies, as most know, but she had some sort of bleeding disorder she had inherited from her father that we hadn't known about. He used to have terrible nosebleeds, poor thing. He was so sweet, though - he'd come and sleep in the bed with me at night. My husband would put him back in his cage when he came to go to bed himself. I miss having rats, they're wonderful little pets. But they live so briefly (yet so joyfully) that it's really heartbreaking to lose them...

9:08 a.m. EST just finishing with clearing out my inbox! GR seems to finally have smoothed back out and be running properly again!
