So I'm curious about something. You folks might think I'm nuts, but I've noticed something. I was diagnosed with Degenerative Joint Disease (which I believe is a fancy name for arthritis). It hurts really bad sometimes and wakes me up. What I noticed is if I drink a glass of milk every night before bed, it is MUCH better and usually doesn't wake me up. Anybody heard of such a thing?

11:28 p.m. and I'm reading The Goldfinch for another half hour or so then bed.

Gary (gary1123) | 33 comments I have some arthritis and a friend of mine is a doctor. HeHe said simply hydrating helps. I don't know if that applies to milk though but maybe the calcium helps somehow?

Wish mine would go away. It hurts nearly as bad as my back after I broke it. Not quite, but a close.

Gary (gary1123) | 33 comments Mine went away from running believe it or not. I just kept running and resting alternated and it just quit hurting after a couple of years.

2:30am EDT. Looks like no sleep tonight. I spent last night on the couch and at least dozed a couple hours. No luck so far tonight. Pain is bad and emotional concerns are pressing. It's just going to be one of those nights. I'm reading 5 books so when I'm done here maybe I'll see if one can capture my interest. Charlie is staying awake and keeping me company and cuddling up with me. He's such a great dog.

Katy, take good care of yourself.

Gary (gary1123) | 33 comments I hope you got some sleep Terri

message 10159: by Angie (new)

Angie | 76 comments Insomnia is bad and can really wear you down. When it gets bad for me I'll lie in bed with my cat and but a DVD of a TV show on. That way I don't have to pick out a film and it makes it easier. Hope everyone's pain starts getting a bit better now the weather is getting a bit warmer.

10:03AM Will have a day of reading today. Looks like I will finish World After today, and then after that I don't know what I will be reading from my TBR. I have some buddy reads this month so we will see.

Cindy I was gonna say what Gary said, maybe the calcium in the milk is doing something? But I say, if it helps you out then you should by all means keep doing it.

Katy glad you had some time for yourself! I will keep you in my prayers when the chemo starts for you. Take care of yourself. I could not even imagine what you are going through right now.

Terri it helps so much to have our pets! It really makes you see why they can be such good companions. They just know when we need them most. So glad you have Charlie for comfort and company!

message 10163: by [deleted user] (new)

2:32 p.m. and I'm getting ready to read for a while. Missed church because of the (I'll be nice!), person who lives upstairs. He must of had twenty women running in and out until about 4:30 a.m. this morning.

Terri and Katy - Sending lots of love, prayers, and well wishes. Hope you both got a bit of sleep.

Pierre 3:54 PM Just came back from an afternoon of skiing with my son. It is a fabulous sunny and mild winter day!
I'm going to take the front porch furniture out of the garage and go read outside in the sun.
Feel better everyone.
Sorry to hear about your bad neighbour, Cindy. They can be a curse from hell!

Pierre 4:52 PM and back in the house. Crap! It's colder than I thought. At least with the furniture on the porch, spring feels like its just around the corner.

That was the first time I encountered it. I am reading The Little Friend now because it seems similar.

Corey | 1411 comments 8:30 watching Children of the Corn with my mom, it's my first time seeing it, I swear I don't know how Stephen King comes up with all this stuff, he's a brilliant guy.

8:42 p.m. and I have a lot of reading to do tonight. I had to lay down earlier after dinner because I got a horrible headache. It is better now, but I guess it's just a nice little reminder to take my high blood pressure medicine. Plan to sit up all night since I start work tomorrow on the night shift. Gonna read now.

10:25PM Had a great workout tonight after Kay and I took a walk. Got a shower and then had some coffee and finished World After, what an amazing read. I recommend that to anyone! So happy to hear that the story does not end at book 2. This will be a series yay! So now I think I am gonna dig into Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey.

message 10189: by [deleted user] (new)

1:09am EDT. Another night of not sleeping. At least I can doze during the day if I feel like it. Spent about the last hour on GR, it's a great way to fill time. Kathryn, do you have someplace to move to already? I don't envy you all the work ahead! It will be fun to make your new place a home for you and Mark though. Guess I'll go crack a book open and see how long this night goes on...Hope all are peaceful and at rest.

message 10190: by [deleted user] (new)

1:16 a.m. Well at least we can keep each other company Terri. I plan to sit up until at least 5 a.m.

message 10191: by [deleted user] (new)

2:52am EDT. How's it going, Cindy? Are you reading or how are you passing the time? The nights can feel so long...

message 10192: by [deleted user] (new)

2:55 a.m. and yes, I'm reading. Walk away from the computer for a little bit and then come back to check messages. I do much better speed wise when reading a hard copy versus the ebook. I have several I'm attempting to catch up.

message 10193: by [deleted user] (new)

I do better with hard copies, too. Starting the 15th I'm reading 12 Years a Slave and that's on my computer. So I can do it if I have to.

message 10194: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt on my PC because I don't have a hard copy. It is taking me forever with that one.

message 10195: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved that book! One of the best things I've read lately.

message 10196: by [deleted user] (new)

It's really good just taking me twice as long to read because I don't have a hard copy. That's OK. The book is worth it.

message 10197: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I just requested about 10 more books from the library. Some will take a while to come in. I'm off to make coffee for my hub who will be getting up soon. Hope you make it till 5am, Cindy. Take care.

message 10198: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Terri! Hope you are able to get some sleep after hubby leaves for work.

Well, Gary, at least I don't have to go to work! Thinking of making some bread, not sure if I have the energy. Hope your work goes by fast!
