Alondra Miller 10:46am. It is freezing in NC. I am waffling about going out book-shopping today. my favorite UBS is having a "buy one get the second for 50% off." I want and need to go; but when snot freezes, that is my clue to keep my butt in the house! ....bbbrrrr

Veronica (veraj121) | 328 comments 11:04 am. Read for 2 hours instead of getting some housework done. I am sucked into the scandalous The Other Boleyn Girl. But have to put it aside.

It is 18 degrees outside. However, I cannot sit in this house one more day. Its been awhile since NYC has been this cold. But its not uncommon. My youngest daughter is meeting her girlfriends for day of movies and light shopping. My oldest, who knows. She probably drown herself in cyberspace ( had a huge work load with college this semester). I myself probably will hang out with my sister - movies and light shopping at the mall also. I think I will leave the car and take mass transit. The streets are still very icy and some areas are not plowed.

Well, thats my day.

Hearing your oldest daughter having a heavy college work load makes me happy I graduated already. Some days I miss it because I was really close to my department. But, when I hear "homework", "studying", or....."ESSAYS"....*SHUDDER* Hope you have a great Saturday! Stay warm!! Glad to hear you are going to take mass transit. Driving on ice is so dangerous, and most people drive like idiots, so....put two and two together and what do you get??......Need I say more?? LOL

Katherine, have a great time at your party tonight! It's fun to get dressed up sometimes.

Alondra and Veronica, hope you guys stay warm!

Shell, how old is Charlie now?

1:33pm EST. Just got home with hub from getting our hair cut. Now he is up at the library picking up 8 books for me--I can't wait to delve in! It's supposed to get bitterly cold tonight, so I plan to stay in and cuddle up with my hub and dog Charlie while reading a good book! (Also will watch some football.)

I am so glad I am off tomorrow and can stay home with possibly 12 inches of snow on the ground. It is also supposed to be -15 for the low temp Monday and Tuesday. I love winter!!!! :-)

Hope everyone is doing well, I will be checking in on and off today. I also hope everyone has recovered from the holidays. I know I am finally able to relax now that it is all over.

Susan, sorry you have almost put all of chirstmas away. We took all our decorations down last week before New Years. A section of lights on our tree when out Christmas morning so it is toast and we just wanted it down.

Katy, glad you are so excited about getting a response from Armin Shimerman. I love when I can get a response from someone I admire.

Not sure, things changed with the new job and I am now a part time associate there. So I am working 2 part time jobs to make full time wages and keep my benefits from my old job. I am hopeful withint a month or two I can move into a full time spot with my new one. If not I may not be able to work two jobs so I will have to go back full time to the old. It is complicated and stressful, but all I have right now.

Thanks for asking. I should make it home before the blizzard hits.

9:11PM Wow again not here all day LOL, I was actually reading up a storm while Kay and Hub kept Aeverie entertained. I will be finishing this book this evening. I would have been done but we ran into town. But after this post I will be getting back to the book before I do anything else here. Heh!

Everyone stay safe and warm if you are having bad weather! I know after we left Indiana the bad weather was moving in and so so cold! Now they are getting ready for Blizzard weather.

9:21AM Plan on reading today....A LOT. I wanna make some good progress in Magyk because I have another buddy read starting tomorrow, The Book Thief! Looking forward to that one. I think I chose a nice list of books for this month.

Been into town this morning, and then came home, put my boy down for a nap, and read for an hour before checking on here. Once I am done on here I will go back to reading - problem is, I don't know which book, I've 6 I'm currently reading! x

Kathryn, you are a party animal. It must have been fun to last so long. Hope you get some good sleep today.

Hey Janie, wow you are reading a lot! So glad Michelle joined us for Magyk. It so odd that I have so many YA reads scheduled to read, not usually my genre. Must be the new, young hope that comes with the untarnished New Year. Yuk yuk.

Alondra, pretty funny, hope you are just chillin out and not frozen:D

Susan YA is not really a normal genre for me either, but now and then I hear of a good one and jump in. It seems now that YA has so much to offer and thankfully I am seeing less about Vampires! Those are the YA stories I don't bother with. I got so tired of the Vampire scene. I am really enjoying Magyk again, it is like a new experience for me. YAY!

I am not sure that Ave's would sit and listen, to watch it yes, but I don't think he has the patience to listen, not yet anyway. LOL I did hear that it has been planned to be a movie a couple of years ago, but I don't think anything was for sure. I think they were stuck on animation or not for the movie.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 11:29 AM. Neeeeeed strong coffee this morning. So...last night....the actual party for the hospital was boring and we were invited to Mark's co-worker's house, and since we are never invited anywhere, we decided to go. It was fun, and she and her husband are really nice. We sang karaoke, sat outside late into the early morning talking around a fire pit, and just enjoyed ourselves. Found out she loves to read and we have Wally Lamb the author in common as a favorite. Mark is still asleep, but I didn't drink so I'm up and am going to go to the store here in a bit, get laundry started, and hopefully read.

The reason I said Mark owes me is because, I think he knows if it was boring for him, it was definitely boring for me. I didn't mind going over to his co-worker's house, but I think he feels bad because we were out so late and just the overall thing is not our thing. I will make him buy me a book or two. ;) I don't think he really "owes" me...these things are just part of being a wife.

12:29pm EST. Making some chicken stock for vegetable soup tomorrow. (Trying to start the new year in a healthy way.) Will probably make bread tomorrow as well. Getting ready to watch some football. Expecting the cold snap and lots of snow tonight. Glad I don't have to go anywhere. Good night to cuddle up with a great book.

Chris, really sorry about your job situation. Hope it straightens out in the way you want.

Janie, I absolutely LOVED The Book Thief. Hope you enjoy it.

Kathryn, must have been some party!!

I sometimes wish I had a bread machine, but then I wonder if I would even use it that much. Haha

My mom used to make homemade bread one of the million reasons I miss her. I just never got the knack of it. I could help her roll the three piece rolls but that was about it. Vege soup sounds so good for the cold weather.
When I put my steak with smoked Gouda and bacon roll-ups in the crockpot this morning the smell brought my boys out of their rooms and they have been hovering ever since. Lol I'm afraid to leave them alone while I'm out of the kitchen.

3:12PM Got to read quite a bit so far today, About 170 pages, which is awesome! Starting my potato soup, sounds great for a cold day such as today! And I have been wanting some for awhile.

We used to make the Amish bread and it was so good. wish I had the starter bags now, but it turned into just me doing it and it gets to be a lot of work. Kathryn you might enjoy making this bread yourself. There is a basic recipe then you add what you want to it.

9:47AM Woke up this morning to frozen water lines. I guess it got to be about 10-12 degrees overnight. Did not expect frozen lines. Hub will be home soon and he said he will work on it when he gets here. They have the water lines at the meter so close to the surface that they apparently freeze easier. UGH this is how I know this winter was far colder than those of the past. Hub got up at 1:30AM because Monday is his early morning and he had water still then. :::sigh::: I thought maybe we forgot the water bill before vacation but nope lol I would rather it be that than frozen though. :/ Oh well hopefully soon it will thaw a bit, enough to get a trickle of hot water anyway.

So Aves and I had breakfast and I am enjoying some coffee. Thank goodness I keep a Brita in the fridge so I had water for coffee. I would have been is sad shape for this morning lol Ok so I would have survived without it.

Chris I love down time with the family too. It is so nice to be able to sit back and chill together either with a movie or just talking amongst ourselves. Always nice to be together. Although I do wish we had a fireplace. :/

Shell sorry to hear about your knife. It is surprising to me that being a guy he would have tried that. You know, because Men seem so much more aware of those things, I am surprised he just did not pull out a chainsaw! LOL

✨Susan✨ (suswelch) | 904 comments Oh my Janie, what a pain in the behind. I hope it is an easy fix. At our old house we had to insulate some of the pipes that were exposed that lead to the main. Argh. Hope your hubby does not freeze and that you have water soon. If not I'm not too far away if you want to come here or if I can help at all:)

Shell, I have all boys in the house and they are not allowed to even look at my block of good knives. They have a whole drawer of my knives they have injured at there disposal. Eek. I can relate it is frustrating. :/

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 12:00 PM. I have been up for a while, but forgot to post there. So, good morning/afternoon! I'm trying to get some laundry folded, and the rest of it washed and dried so I don't have to worry about it later. I'm hoping I get a few more of the books I ordered in today. There should be three more arriving soon, but then I ordered 8 more Friday?, but they won't be here for a couple of weeks. It is really cold out there, and I can tell because the heater keeps coming on. Stay warm, everyone!

Janie, that really sucks. If you need anything, let me know.

2:07pm EST. It's 6 below 0 here, brrrrrrr! (Janie, what a drag! Hope it turns out OK.) Charlie can only go out for 20 minutes at a time. He's been racing around the back yard in circles, he's so much fun to watch. Just pulled my focaccia out of the oven--looks brown and crispy and delicious! The house smells wonderful. I made my veg soup this morning, so dinner is prepared. Now I have the whole afternoon to read. Stay warm everyone!

2:54PM So we think the water issue was on their end because when it came on it was not just a dribble like you would expect from a frozen water line. It came back on full force at about 11:00AM. So a late start to my laundry. So now I am about to make dinner, gonna have Beef and Noodles and fresh green beans. I finished Magyk about 1:00 and I have now started The Book Thief. I have to say it is rather intriguing, this writing style so far. I hope to stay spot on with my reading, it has been going rather well.

Susan & Kathryn thanks so much for offers, nice to know that I have people nearby to count on if I need it.

Terri thanks also for the concern, it is appreciated!

That's awesome, when I was younger I did it in a laundry basket. Down the steps and out the front door. I did crash in the front yard and never did it again but it was a blast.

Alondra, hope you enjoy your reading time. I am loving the cold weather aside from the fact I have problems with my vehicle. It is -30 with the wind chill here and I'm enjoying it. Got the big comforter on the bed and a few fires in our fire place. Not much reading on my end though.
