Hey, Katy! Good to see you post. Are you feeling any better? (I often think of you and all the physical stuff you have to put up with.)

10:21pm EST.Spending a relaxing evening on GR and some other sites. Got some great ideas for new books to read. (Yeah, my TBR pile isn't nearly big enough!) My older son who lives with us seems to be doing better. (He has struggled with substance abuse and bipolar disorder. He's now on disability and hasn't worked for 3 years.) Anyway, he's been spending a lot more time with me and his dad which is a big change. He went through a long period of just isolating himself in his room. Now he's even offered to help me with the Christmas baking and the cooking. (Both my boys, I'm proud to say, are excellent in the kitchen. I raised 2 great sous chefs!)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 10:02 PM. What a busy day. I'm finally sitting down after an all day of running. I got about half of what I needed and wanted to do today done, but more important things came up. I stood in line for a while at the post office to mail our family in Oregon's Christmas gifts, and went to the grocery store. While I was grocery shopping, I got word a family friend of mine was admitted into the heart hospital down the street from me. After I put up my groceries, I went straight to the hospital to see how he is doing, and ended up staying for about two and a half hours. I came home and Mark was already home. I cooked dinner, and intermittently wrapped most of Mark's Christmas gifts. Apparently his other two gifts are being delayed at UPS because of the ice we had a few weeks ago and they are really behind. Oh well. He at least has some things to open, so it's not a big deal. I have a killer headache, and I'm wondering if a glass of wine will help relax me. The good news is, I did get a book in the mail which I have been waiting on for several days. Going to read and try to relax. Tomorrow, unless I need to go up to see Thom at the hospital, I will be at home, which I will be so glad about.

Shell (shellcampbell) | 757 comments Sorry to hear about your friend Kathryn, I hope that he is okay and that he recovers quickly. I was in hospital this time a couple of years ago and I can tell ya, it's not a fun time to be stuck there! That is great that you are close by and can go visit him, I'm sure it will help make the time go faster for him.

A glass of wine always does the trick for me ;)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Hey, Terri, glad to hear your son seems to be doing a bit better. I'm still having trouble; the doctor gave me some samples of a medicine that helped a LOT but I ran out on Sunday. I've been trying since Thursday to have him prescribe me enough to last me until I see the gastroenterologist on Jan. 6, but no luck so far. Hasn't said he won't, just hasn't sent it, and when I called the nurse today to follow up on it, she acted like she had no idea what I was talking about, even though it was to her I spoke last Thursday. *rolls eyes*

3:41 a.m. EST Okay, the editing is done, now to finish this book. The omnibus review is supposed to be posted tomorrow, so... O.O Have around 200 pages left, so it shouldn't be a problem.

7:57AM Wow I had a good sleep last night! I ended up in bed about 10:30. I guess all of this running and crafting and such caught up to me and whooped my behind! So now just waiting for Aves to get up. He will go home tonight because he has a doctor's appt. tomorrow. Just had breakfast and will be making Aeverie's when he climbs out of bed. Plan to read some more today. I have really been missing that as of late. I would love to finish this book before vacation in Indy.

Terri so glad to hear about your son! I hope he continues to progress positively.

Kathryn will keep your friend in my prayers! I agree with Michelle I hate staying in the hospital, there is no place like home!

Cassie (crk815) | 199 comments 8:01am. Headed to work! Gotta brag for a second! I got one A and one B in my first semester of graduate school!!! I was so nervous because it's been so long! Just got an A on my first research paper back! My instructors comments were: "you wrote a very interesting paper, well written with extensive research and review of literature. You have good writing skills and knowledge of how to write a research paper. Your support from the literature of the intervention, the evidence base, is strong. Excellent, comprehensive overview of the disorder and it's scope. Practically perfect! Paper grade: 29/30."
I am really excited! Sorry to brag!

Congratulations, Cassie! You must have been working hard in grad school.

Kathryn, I admire your energy and ability to get things done! Prayers and good thoughts for your friend Thom.

Katy, sure hope you get some help with pain relief from your doc--Jan. is just too long to wait.(I speak as someone with a lot of experience in pain--both personally as well as professionally as an RN.)

Michelle and Janie, thanks for your words of support for my son. It's been such a difficult situation. A real heart ache.

10:07am EST. It's been a good morning. Did the laundry and made some cookie dough to freeze and bake later, now spending time on GR. Also got the major prep done for dinner tonight. Now I have hours ahead to read. Hope you all have a great day!

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 11:05 AM. Good morning, GR. Trying to wake myself up with some coffee. I need to get laundry and dishes done. I really dislike it when I'm behind on stuff like that. I'm going to focus on getting what I need to get done, and wait and see what they are going to do for Thom. He had congestive heart failure, so it is either surgery or medications and send him home. I would really love to knock out a big chunk of my book today since I am behind in my buddy read. Oh well...life happens. :)

Terri, I meant to write this to you last night, but I am glad to hear your son is being a bit more social and actually helping out in the kitchen. That is encouraging. Sometimes that's about the time they realize how they are acting towards their family and make an effort to improve. My brother is like that. I think he inherited a bit of my mother's manic depression/bipolar disorder. He's also just got anger issues and has had to go to anger management classes. The good thing is, his five kids and wife have really helped to alleviate his anger and I think it gives him motivation to strive to be better. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

There was a delay on two of Mark's Christmas presents I'm really excited about giving him, and I received an email saying they might arrive after Christmas. I was perfectly okay with this, actually. I received a knock on the door this evening, and there was a box for me from UPS. YAY! 10:24PM Aeverie was such a doll today with allowing me to read and complete Roadside Crosses. After I finished I had my workout. I went into the library to pick up my next book for the month, Dust and Decay. I gotta say it took everything I had to not stray and pick up a book not planned for this month, Triangles. But I was good and I am sticking to the books I chose for this month.

Kathryn I am so glad that your package came! YAY!

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 7:49 a.m. EST To my annoyance, my doctor STILL has not sent in the prescription I've requested, NOR has anyone from the office called to explain WHY. Will be calling AGAIN after 8. I did not feel well at all yesterday, so I basically stayed in bed all day. I'd wake up every few hours, roll over, and go back to sleep. I turned off the lights about 8 in the morning and finally crawled up out of bed at 10 that night. Finally finished that massive omnibus so that the review would be posted today, on time! Next two books are early reads for early reviews based on the authors' requests. Charging my Nook back up! Meanwhile, a LOT of e-mail came in while I was being lazy yesterday, so off I go to clear it... hi ho hi ho

9:45AM So Aeverie left last night and I am gonna miss him so much. I will not see him again till next Friday at our family Christmas party in Indiana. Thank goodness I have stuff to keep me occupied!

So now I sit here with my coffee, and I should eat breakfast, but I really am not hungry at the moment. I will have a glass of orange juice and maybe a banana. It is not much but it is something.

Good news! Amy and Cort got the house in our sub division which is splendid! I can see them all anytime I want to now they are just 2 streets up from us! So starting February 1st we will be neighbors and it will make things so much easier for them as well.

LOL Michelle it was really hard! As I posted in the other thread, I got so many great books after I had already decided my reads for December. But I will stick to what I chose! This list keeps me on track very well.

Katy sorry you are having to fight the doctors so much. I know that can't be much fun. Sometimes Doctors don't use the brains God gave them. It is sad.

message 8628: by Kathryn (last edited Dec 18, 2013 08:15AM) (new)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 10:12 AM. I didn't realize I didn't post on this thread last night after my post about dinner. I slept pretty well last night, which I really needed. I've been feeling kind of run down the last few days, and I think it's because of all of the running around for Christmas. Mark may not be home for dinner tonight because he thinks tonight is a medical dinner for some select staff who were asked. I kind of hope it is tonight because I need to go get two more gifts for family.

The Gizmo and the Pepper are still in bed...go figure. I really want some coffee, and after it is made, I'm going to go get in my reading chair and work on this Deaver novel. I read more than I thought I would when I got into bed last night. I know there is going to be a twist in the story, so have no idea where this is going. We shall see! Janie already knows, so she has been torturing me with texts about how good it is. hahahah!!!

Janie, I am so happy to hear Amy and Cort were approved for the house!! I bet that is going to be wonderful for all of you. I bet you are going to miss Aeverie! I hate leaving my loved ones for that long of time. It's nice to get away, but then you miss them so much. By the end, you're dying to get home so you can see them. haha!

Michelle, here's the recipe! It was really, really good. Mark kept saying he loved the sauce! :) : In the bottom of your crockpot, drizzle a little olive oil on the bottom. Make a mixture of 1/4 tsp of Paprika, 1 tsp of salt, 1/4 pepper, 1/4 tsp of lemon pepper seasoning. Get 3-6 chicken breasts, bone in, or bone out. (I used 3 breasts last night, because it's just us two. The recipe calls for 6.) Rub the seasoning mixture into the chicken. Put chicken into crockpot. Mix 1 can (10-3/4 oz) of cream of mushroom soup, undiluted, 1 cup (8oz) of sour cream, 1 cup of chicken broth. 1/2 pound of mushrooms, sliced. Mix the mushrooms in with the sauce. Pour it over chicken. Cook for 6-8 hours, until chicken reaches 170 degrees. It was so yummy!! I served this over No Yolk egg noodles. For a veggie, I did steamed squash, but I think it could go well with peas, carrots, green beans, broccoli, a salad, or really any veggie.

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 6:40 p.m. EST GAH, okay, so apparently the doctor sent the pharmacy the prescription on Monday, but the medication was not in stock and won't be until tomorrow. Why couldn't they have TOLD me that instead of pretending they'd never received the stupid prescription? *headdesk* Anyway, hubby had to go in early today, but he came home early, too, so I imagine he is happy to have a short day. My cats... *sigh* Okay, so I went in the kitchen this morning and heard something and turned my head just in time to see a rat scurry across the back of the stove and go behind the refrigerator. She stood there for a moment with her butt and tail sticking out (which is how I know it's a female). The cats... nothing. Tiger didn't even turn his head, Erasmus was sleeping in the bedroom. I think Fluff had been trying to tell me about her, but he was too intimated to go do anything. *laugh* I guess she heard me lamenting how I miss having pet rats and thought she'd come be my friend? *shrug* Anyway, as long as she isn't destructive we'll likely leave her be; it's easy enough for her to move in or out through the huge honking hole in the kitchen wall where there is supposed to be a vent for a dryer.

Also, heard of a very funny creature today. Asian Stink Badger. *snicker* They're a type of skunk.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 6:00 PM. It is just me tonight for a few hours. Mark has a dinner thing for the hospital, which he just left for. While he's going to be gone, I am going to read and try to get this book finished. He looked handsome when he left. :) Anyways, I had a great workout, got a shower, and that's when Mark came home.

I'm wondering if I don't have any distractions (T.V.), if I can finish this book. I read 70 pages earlier, so I might be able to knock another big chunk out of it. I am really enjoying this book because I have no idea where it is going, just like the last Deaver book I read.

Looking forward to some wine or coffee and maybe, hopefully finishing Roadside Crosses. I do miss my sweet husband, since we've only seen each other for a short amount of time today, but like the saying goes, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." :)

Janie, this poem made me think of you today.

The Meeting
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

After so long an absence
At last we meet again:
Does the meeting give us pleasure,
Or does it give us pain?

The tree of life has been shaken,
And but few of us linger now,
Like the Prophet's two or three berries
In the top of the uttermost bough.

We cordially greet each other
In the old, familiar tone;
And we think, though we do not say it,
How old and gray he is grown!

We speak of a Merry Christmas
And many a Happy New Year
But each in his heart is thinking
Of those that are not here.

We speak of friends and their fortunes,
And of what they did and said,
Till the dead alone seem living,
And the living alone seem dead.

And at last we hardly distinguish
Between the ghosts and the guests;
And a mist and shadow of sadness
Steals over our merriest jests.

"The Meeting" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Public domain.
