YA Writers and Readers discussion
what are you currently reading?
Jumping into a conversation, I guess, but I'm currently reading "Hush, Hush" and so far the heroine, Nora, can really get on my nerves sometimes...maybe it's just the "anorexic pig" comment but I'm pretty sure there's more to my annoyance. (Anyone else find the "anorexic pig" comment rude? I mean it's a hard thing to go through for many girls and Nora treated it like it's some insult. It's very similar to saying "cancer pig" or "diabetes pig" to me :/ )
I've just finished
I haven't read Hush, Hush, but calling anyone a pig is rude, even without a disease.

I have to agree with you, i read it a long time ago and i did find that comment rude, and Nora also got on my nerves at times, especially while i was reading Crescendo i found her attitude extremely annoying.

I'm only a couple of chapters in but so far it's really good, I'm liking the world building so far.

She should atleast have the courage to ignore or refuse him if she's scared :/
I enjoyed Awakened much more than the House of Night before that one. I thought the series was getting slow but this one was much better!
I'm reading PERSONAL EFFECTS by E.M. Kokie and am very impressed so far. So much so, I've highlighted some great beat prompts to churn ideas for my next novel. Slow in some spots, overwritten in others (I've noted those on my Kindle and see why some in my crit group keep pointing this out to me, LOL!). But it's a great story how to deal with grief, loss, acceptance and letting others help one deal and sort these complex, overwhelming emotions. It's about Matt and older brother T.J. being killed while serving in Iraq. His father's a standoffish, ex-military guy, his mother's passed on, and Matt doesn't understand why. But what Matt thought he knew about his brother, he had no idea what's in store for him to learn about his brother, his parents and himself. I'm thoroughly enjoying Kokie's first novel, and can see it being nominated and winning a few awards. She also did a fantastic job in capturing how military families deal with loss and grief. I'm half through it, but I'm sure to always refer back to it and will be as surprised as Matt in the end, having grown right alongside him as a reader and writer. Awesome fodder for my novel and characters.
I am currently reading
Autumn Storm by Lizzy Ford. I had loved Dark Summer and I can't wait to finish this one. :)

I am re-reading Hush,Hush. First time I read it I read it on a bus to a swim carnival and did not concentrate . Going back and reading it again I am pleasantly suprised.
Sadly I only have the first two in the series so am going to somehow have to hunt down the 3rd and the 4th before I finish the 2nd.

Same here, Donna! I really enjoyed Matched and was very disappointed with Crossed. Has anyone read Reached yet? Should we read it?

I'm a bit scared to read this after Crossed, but hopefully it will be great. I'm borrowing it from a friend once she finishes it. Hope you enjoy !
