Today the episode was on where Jess visits Rory while she lives at the Gilmore's. I never thought that she and Logan were a good match, but in that episode it became again very clear to me. At the beginning, she has to drive Logan, Colin and that other guy from the Life and Death brigade home and they are really drunk. She's more like a baby sitter than like Logan's girlfriend.
Later she meets Jess and they decide to meet for dinner the following evening. Just when they are about to go out, Logan shows up and he's really mean to Jess, really vicious, the whole time. He makes fun of him when Rory tells him he wrote a book and really shows that he's a rich, spoilt kid.
Jess leaves and Rory runs after him. He then tells her that the life she's leading then, taking a sabbatical, living with her grandparents, being in a women's association, that's all not her - and he is right. Rory then changes back a bit but Logan continues to be the spoilt, rich kid who cannot bear a compromise (see how their story ends). I just don't like him. I understand why Rory finds him fascinating, but I guess that that's a fascination that should have worn off if the authors had stayed more true to her character (see my previous post about how annoyingly they changed her character).

But Jess, on the other hand, challenged her to read new books (Hemingway) and she challenged him to try authors (Rand). He also challenged her to think about her perceptions and reasons for doing things. And he was very good about telling her that dropping out of Yale, etc wasn't her. He gave her tough love and Logan made a bet with her on how long it would last.
I'd love to read your old post about the changes in Rory's character. Where can I find it?
It's message 175 in this very thread, Lori. We talked about Rory's character changes a bit more after that.
I totally agree with what you say, by the way. That's what I meant.

I disagree with you about Logan, Marion, but I get your perspective. I think they both grew and became good supports for each other. Honestly, I feel that they both became adults in that process. I just commented in another thread about their relationship, though, so I'll leave it at that.
And while I respect the opinion of all you Jess supporters, I just don't get it !!! He's such a brooding, selfish guy who thinks he and his opinions are all that. I constantly wanted to push him in the river like Luke did. Even more when he became an author, I thought he thought so much of himself that he knew better than Rory did about what she wanted, needed, deserved. Gah! The gall!

I don't get it either... I've always preferred Dean over Jess. Although it has been said that Dean is the student in the relationship, I still think he didn't deserve to be treated that way in season 2. I also think that simply sharing one's book interests is only a fraction of what can be called "challenging" someone to be a better person. Plus I have a crush on Jared Padalecki, so there you go. LOL.
I didn't like the way Rory treated Dean either, Dini. It is never ok to break someone's heart like that, and Rory did it twice to him. I also didn't like how they were going out the second time, I understand that Rory kind of felt pushed to find a boyfriend as everyone was bugging her, even Paris and Emily, and she remembered that she had always had fun with Dean and that it was a lot easier than with Jess, so I guess he was sort of her "comfort guy".
I am not really a Jess supporter, Michele. I just think that the other two were even worse for her. And I do think Jess had a point when he told her that dropping out of Yale and living with her grandparents and all the other things she was doing at that time were not really her.

At the same time, I thought that Logan brought a little fun and spontonaity into Rory's life. He was the "bad boy" and she was the "good girl." Yes Jess was also seen as a "bad boy", but his "bad" traits did not rub off on her. Some of Logan's did. I loved Logan's charcater but I am glad Rory did not end up with him. Really I think the way that the show was ended was the best choice( i.e. none of them), I think somone in between those two would be ideal.
Sad to say I was never really fond of Dean. I apologize to those who loved him, but I found him kind of boring....

Jess's personality > Loghan

But I definitely think Jess is the best for her. Other than the fact that he showed up in her life so many times, my personal opinion is that he knew her better than anyone else. I think he understood who she really was and helped her along that path of finding herself more.
I've been analyzing why the relationship failed, but that's a different conversation. Haha.

It's actually really cute that you and your dad talk about Gilmore Girls, Kirby : )
My dad hates all the shows i watch.

"I'm almost positive that he was really arguing about my current and old boyfriend. ;)"
LOL Kirby... how fun it is to watch GG with dad.

When Jess showed up later in Rory's life (the Logan era) it was just a case of bad timing.. I like to think they will reconnect later down the line and live an amazing, bohemian lifestyle, far more exciting than chez Huntsburger!! In saying that I liked Logan a lot, I mean who could fault that smile, charm and charisma? But when if comes to the man for Rory, Jess is the one.
i love logan...when dean broke up with her at the night of that party and he was there for her...i was touched...i like when he saved her from that one dude...he was like
hey honey sorry i am so late.
and he turns to the dude and says
thanks for keeping my girl busy, if you had't she might've noticed that i was late.

Dean was SO much better for her than anyone else.

i think logan is with out a doubt the best

Logan was okay, but he was a spoiled rich kid, although I will admit that towards the end of the series he did manage to get his act together a bit.
And Dean was just gross. He was a jerk for cheating on his wife and just in general.
I think Marty would have also been a good choice. He's runner-up to Jess. :)

Definitely Jess. he just didn't communicate well the first time. He was always perfect for her thou. :)
ya totally i cant make up my mind between jess or logan

yeah i guess so other then the part about jesses hair i totslly agree lol

I really wanted her to get back with Dean, but probably because I loved the first seasons more than anything else. I didn't like Logan at first but he grew on me, and in the end I would have rather she be with him than Jess.
Jess was great and he wasn't really a 'bad boy' yes he first was but then he overcame it and wrote books. people make mistakes and he was much nicer to rory then Dean was. i agree bout logan i thought he was way to cocky at first but then he grew on me.

ik that took care of each other and it was perfect

rory and dean just wanted different things-- he was ready to settle down and she wanted to experience life, travel etc.
i couldnt stomach Jess because not only did he look like a guy i dated he had that same maddening personality. exciting and different at first but also impulsive, irrational and explosive in a way that scared me.
Logan might have been a bit pretentious at times but i think he's the best fit and a genuine person, despite his affluent upbringing...
oh how i miss the gilmore girls!

Still, I always thought that Rory belonged with Jess, because they somehow balanced and complemented each other at the same time. Furthermore, it was clear that Rory still had feelings for him - probably because their connection was deep - when she had dropped out of Yale and he came back into her life. I understand that Jess brought more trouble than good to her life in the beginning of their relationship, but he could have been very good for her when he got his act together and published his book.
They knew each other better than they knew themselves, and they were a match made in heaven long before they knew it themselves.
Either way, and whoever you think is better for Rory, I hated that she didn't end up with anyone. I understand that the ending of the series happened faster than was expected and that they didn't have time to wrap things up correctly, but if the writers didn't think she was made to be with Logan, they could've at least added a surprise visit by Jess or Dean at her going away party, at least to leave us fans with some hope that she might not end up alone - and some idea of who she would be with.
Team Jess!
I love how even though Jess was the bad boy he really didn't do anything to cause Rory to be anything but who she wanted to be and he encouraged her to be that person. He even helped her to expand her views and see what she could be.
Dean ended up being such a scum and I was so glad that they got rid of that huge mistake! He was way too posesive from the start.
As for Logan, he was way to caught up in his money and his lifestyle to be a healthy partner for Rory. There would always be issues of trust and background not to mention the fact that he acted on impulses without caring for anyone else involved. I was so happy she said "No" to him!
I am so sad that the show had to end with no resolution for either of them. I wish the writers would do one more season to end it right.....is there a petition somewhere?

Dean-insecure baby who didn't trust her. Oh no, what are we going to do? Rory was having fun with some guys at her own party! How dare she? I'm being sarcastic by the way. He doesn't even trust her with Jess. He needs to give her space
Jess-perfect match. Rory needs some bad boy balance in her life. They discussed books, they made out, they were perfect. Jess was always there for her, he always tried to protect her, he was always there loving her and trying to get her back. My favorite line is when she goes to his book convention and he kisses her and she says,
"I cant do this, even though he cheated on me worse, I just cant do this."
And he said,
"Wait! Your still seeing that jerk! And he cheated on you! Rory, I don't deserve this!"
It was his way of saying, you know, I'm a human, I've grown up, dont treat me like crap. and she got it. they should have gotten married

I liked Jess for the same reason Rory did, bad boy, get out there and experience that and there's something fun about being able to share her passion for books and music with him.
I felt like Logan was somewhat the middle between them, they didn't have a lot in common, but they had some things in common. I liked him for her college boyfriend, but I wasn't sure about how it would work out if they got married. They were at such different places in their lives. Not that they wouldn't have been happy (if he didn't cheat on her or do something dumb when he got mad like jump off a cliff)... but Rory still needed to be on her own for a little while I think. Maybe down the road they would have met somewhere and hooked up again.
