The challenge starts at the time this is posted guys! Let's begins at zero!

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Congrats Kenjii

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Thanks Brainsgirl. Nothing to do these last couple days but read so i was able to really get some pages in =D

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I've plowed through 148 pages of the ebook James Potter and the Curse of the Gate Keeper. That took me half a day and all evening.

Jane(Janelba) (janelba) | 769 comments I know what you mean Kate ! I really don't enjoy reading ebooks from the computer as I really suffer from eye strain etc but neither can I afford to buy an ereader either as they are at least 100 euros more expensive here in France than in the USA and UK. They also won't mail a product like that to France. So yeah ebooks take a while to read ! !

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) At least my computer chair is fairly comfortable. But it's harder on the eyes as well to read them. Still... the James Potter books are worth it. Once I get started I don't want to stop. lol (And you know I can't afford an ereader either)

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments I love my computer it is portable and the screen can be dimmed (unplugged). So I can lay in bed or sit up in a chair and read e-books. I also used to print my ebooks from my desktop and then use the other side of th paper for scratch paper. I understand the cost of buying an ereader is not affordable. Eventually I will cave though. I have such variety in my reading mood that the idea of carrying X amount of books with me is worth the cost.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) If it was a 15 page story, I'd have printed it. But the two James Potter books are both approximately 400 pages. I don't want to waste that much paper and ink! And I don't have a laptop and my pc is most definetly NOT portable! lol At least my chair is comfy but I had to get up and go for a walk after sitting here too long today reading.

That might be true about Kindle and Sony, but CyBook is French, so they do ship it to France, and the price is ok as well...
http://www.pixmania.com/fr/fr/r/cybook

(if you ever get tempted)

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Ah well see. I don't mind printing up, say, 100 pages at a time. I buy my ink at a discount and my paper from Walmart, lol. So I mean yeah it is alot of paper and ink but I think its easier than sitting at the computer. But if a comfy chair works. Cool!

message 318: by ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (last edited Jul 03, 2009 08:15AM) (new)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) If I ever reread the James Potter books (and I might)... I'll seriously have to think about printing them off and putting them in a 3 ring binder. One is just under 400 pages and one is just over 400 pages so that's 2 binders, a ream and a half of paper, and at least one ink cartridge.... hhhmmm. Too bad I couldn't just buy the book already printed! lol

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Well compare the price of ink and paper to the price of the printed book. I get my ink buy 2 get 1 free from www.clickinks.com . So I never really thought of it as "wasteful" printing e-books. B/c of that extra cartridge. But yeah. That is a smart idea to save the books you print =D.

message 320: by ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (last edited Jul 03, 2009 08:36AM) (new)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) One of my sons has read all the Harry Potter books and enjoyed them. He was sad when the series ended as it took him a year to read all 7 books. Another son is just starting to read his first Harry Potter book. One reason I'd like to print them is to make it easier for them to read too. But it would cost me cost to $20 for at least one ink cartridge refill, 2 reams of paper and 2 binders. So havn't done it yet.

(I go to my local Walgreens pharmacy and they will refill your black ink cartridge for $12.)

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Try the ink website if you can Brainsgirl. Refilling it sounds expensive. But for me I am used to shopping online and getting the good deals. Let me know if it works for you k? Happy reading!

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Black Ink at that site for my printer is $8.90 each plus $5.95 for shipping. The buy 2 get 1 free doesn't apply. New normally runs close to $30. So my refill for $12 locally that takes 10-15 mins while I wait isn't a bad deal.

message 323: by Unapologetic_Bookaholic (last edited Jul 03, 2009 10:37AM) (new)

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Oh Ok, then yeah, I'd go with the deal you are getting =D. I am going to go out for a while then come back and read my Library books. I did not read them the first 3 weeks I had them checked out, lol. So I better put down my delish m/m romances and get to finsihing my Library before they are due.

Planning to finish:
V C Andrews
Delia's Heart
Black Cat

The Last Lecture (Non. fic)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I am totally out of this Kenjii. I bought a few books off Amazon's used marketplace and a few cozy mysteries from my used bookstore to treat myself as I had a lil money saved to spend on me. And this weekend is the annual friends of the library book sale where paperbacks are 50 cents each. I already have my earlybird ticket purchased to get in friday evening and a babysitter lined up. I look forward to this sale all year long and save up for it. It's the one time I can just buy what I want and not worry that it's going to cost too much. So I can start or join a challenge after the weekend, but not before. lol I'm even tempted after buying specific titles friday, to go back on sunday for the $2/bag sale. That's all you can fit into a paper grocery bag for $2. (It used to be $1). Very picked over by then, but hey, for $2 whose complaining? lol

Btw, I'm enjoying the books I bought earlier this week so much that I started reading the Star Trek book (not my normal genre) right after I bought it and got it home and I started reading the book I bought off Amazon the same day it came in the mail and am 120 pages into the memoir. For those interested that's War Dragons by L.A. Graf and Trail of Crumbs - Hunger, Love, and the Search for Home by Kim Sunée.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Oh I probably will make a short, sweet challenge Briansgirl. So by Sunday you can join a brand new challenge. I do plan on reading like mad though. B/c I have gotten my reward books plus all these wishlist books.

Tonight I bought (Wal-Mart):
Urban Shaman (Walker Papers, #1) by C.E. Murphy Urban Shaman by C.E. Murphy ($5.97)
Doomsday Can Wait (The Phoenix Chronicles, Book 2) by Lori Handeland Doomsday Can Wait by Lori Handeland ($4.97)
Atlantis Unleashed (Warriors of Poseidon, Book #5) by Alyssa Day Atlantis Unleashed by Alyssa Day($5.97)
Edge Of Hunger by Rhyannon Byrd Edge of Hunger by Rhyannon Byrd ($4.97)
Desire Untamed (Feral Warriors, Book 1) by Pamela Palmer Desire Untamed by Pamela Palmer ($4.97)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I don't think I've ever seen those books at our walmart. Consider yourself lucky. lol

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments I know! I am in California. We are a bit liberal here. I mean these are definitely eye raising books for sure =D.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I'm in part of the bible belt so our walmart has a decent sized christian section. The only romances are harlequins or by the likes of Macomber or Roberts. The most controversial books they have would be the YA section with the likes of Twilight.

message 333: by Jane(Janelba) (last edited Jul 09, 2009 10:25AM) (new)

Jane(Janelba) (janelba) | 769 comments Does buying a Sony ereader count as buying books lol
It was on sale at 100 euros less than anywhere else when hubby and I had a trip to one of the bigger towns today so I couldn't resist it at 200 euros instead of 300 euros minimum usually ! !
Came with 100 free books but of course they're in French so I won't be in a hurry to read those lol ! !

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Oh Jane =D BG came up with "the between challenge" book buy. Since there isn't a challenge at the moment (I'll be posting in a little while. U can buy books if you so choose. But I wouldn't consider buying an e-reader as buying an actual book. Plus the books were free.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I know you'll enjoy that Jane and put it to good use. Ebooks are so much cheaper for you. Just hope you like reading books on it. You'll have to let me know how you like it.

message 336: by Jane(Janelba) (new)

Jane(Janelba) (janelba) | 769 comments I Love it ! !
Even more so because I got such a good bargain price ! I've worked for 2 solid years, not spent any money on me except clothes for work and my car to get to work, so this was something special for me after all the hours I've worked this year !

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) And a treat well deserved it is too. My treat to myself every year is this annual library booksale. I can't wait til tomorrrow night!!

message 338: by Jane(Janelba) (new)

Jane(Janelba) (janelba) | 769 comments Oh I'm sure you'll find lots of goodies there lol.
Have fun you deserve it too ! !

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Thanks Jane. I got my dad to babysit Nathan and I'm all set to go. I'll have to wait in a line that snakes either around the corner or down the alley waiting for it to open tomorrow. I can't wait!!

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments I think I have been forgetting to add the date to the challenges. So the format should read:
Challenge name, # of pages, reward and date to read by.

Ok, so I know BG wants to buy some books this weekend but I still want to start a challenge as it has been about a day since the last one. We've all been reading losing precious page counts! NO! LOL.

(COPY) Challenge "Quickie", # of pages 1,000, reward 1 new 1 used book, to be read by July 15th 2009.

The point of putting the dates on was to give a limit but we were always finishing before the dates given and I forgot to add the dates on again, lol. Its corrected! Page count zero!

Also since I bought during the last challenge I won't be eligible for the secret reward for the "3-n-a-row" prize. Anyway. I will come up with something else to keep everyone from buying outside of winning a challenge. Even myself =D.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Reminder: Books started before new challenge can only be counted once FINISHED. New books can be added as partial counts any time.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) psst... check out my reading list thread to see a list of all the books I bought today. It's quite a long list. :)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Kenjii wrote: "*picks up jaw off the floor* "

lol, you can see why I couldn't resist the sale. I wait all year for this to come around and save up for it. I don't have alot of money to spend and I get the most for my money this way. Need to stop buying now that I'm running outta shelves to put them on and start reading, so after sunday I'm good to go for the count off challenge.

message 346: by Jane(Janelba) (new)

Jane(Janelba) (janelba) | 769 comments WOW Briansgirl you did well ! !
I can join the challenge now as I have my ereader full of ebooks I had already downloaded free from the internet plus my 100 french ones hehe ! Should definitely be fluent in French by the time I read all those ! !

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) yes, you should be! I've got books in spanish but I can't read anything beyond baby books. lol I do have the first Harry Potter book in spanish but it took me a long time (like ten minutes) to read the first paragraph. lol
