Rate this book
Julian Malono loves his job as conditioning coach for the university football team. When he meets incoming freshman quarterback, Koby McIntire, he's instantly attracted and offers to help with Koby's conditioning regime. Koby is thrilled when his all-time favourite player agrees to help him. Not only can they work on Koby's upper body strength, but maybe on the growing attraction between them. What Koby doesn't know is that a lifetime of abuse has left its mark on Julian. When shadows from the past threaten their growing relationship, Koby helps Julian fight back by getting him the help he so desperately needs. But will therapy be enough when the past comes back to threaten Julian in person?

Julian Malono has many secrets that are starting to wear him down. He just landed a job as a conditioning coach at the college, so things should be looking up. It's not. He is not allowing others to get to close to him...people don't question him and he doesn't get hurt that way. His problem is he can't seem to keep his mind and his heart from wanting to be around the new freshman quarterback Koby McIntire. Now only is Koby one of the most attractive men he has ever been around, he is one of the smartest and kindest, too.

Koby knew immediatey when he met Julian that they had something special together. They have the same goals, like the same things and nobody had ever made Koby feel the way Julian makes him feel. He knows that Julian has a secret, and has been hurt in the past, but he is determined to break down Julian's wall he has between them and start their life together.

This is definately one of the better books in this series so far. I really don't want to give away too much of Julian's problems and secrets, but I did like the way he had to deal with the past to have the future he wants with Koby. This is more of an emotional read than the previous two Campus Cravings books and I liked it much better. It still has some fluff to it...as all of Carol's books do, but it definately had a good storyline and likeable heroes that I found myself hoping they were going to get their happy ending.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I am hoping it is just as good as this one.

If you are offended by M/M explicit sex this book is not for you.

This review really applies to the first 7 books of this series - Coach, Side-Lined, Sacking the Quarterback, Off-Season, Forbidden Freshman, Broken Pottery, and In Bear's Bed I am together because really, they are one story broken into multiple novellas (even more so than any other such series I have encountered anyway). It is the story of a group of gay friends at a conservative university in Idaho. Many of the friends are Athletes or former athletes and their friends and relations. Some of the relationships are of the barely legal variety and questionable pairings (trainer and incoming freshman quarterback for example). It isn't the most well written set of stories, but the messages are good. The plots are a bit contrived, but you love the characters anyway. nothing too outrageous house wise. I gave most of them 3*, Broken Pottery got 4*. The others would have gotten higher ratings, but the amount of time spent setting up the other books annoyed me a bit. Such as taking pages to introduce characters that lend nothing to the story except that you know they will be one of the MCs in an upcoming volume...

Third in the Campus Cravings series is the story about Koby, the new freshman college quarterback, and Julian, the conditioning coach. Koby is 18 years old but very mature for his age and Julian instead is 24 years old but an abusive past that prevents him from having a love relationship.

Koby is a good boy, with a strong attitude that allows him to face any adversity. He starts college with the knowledge that he has to do everything by himself, no help will arrive from his parents. When Julian hols out a friendly hand, Koby falls immediately in love for this gentle guy. But Julian has to overcome his past to be able to build something real with Koby.

Carol Lynne decides not to put too emphasis and angst in the story: you can imagine all but the tone of the novel remains light.

The story is enjoyable and the series begins to be a little funny: in this undefined american small town, every gay man manages to find his true love and gathers together with his friends... at the end of the series gay men will overtake on straight men!!! But it's not a complaint, on the contrary: I really want to read Demitri's story, but above all Rocco... from what Carol Lynne lets us now, this black/blue hair man promises to be a very interesting character!

Bah... why are the parents so terrible in this one?

Koby's mom is just uncaring and crappy but Julians dad... that just breaks my heart.
I was so proud of Koby; everyone thought he was too young... well really, just Julian but he showed real maturity when wanting to take care of Julian; he knew when he could help and when Julian needed to talk to someone about what he'd been through, it was hard to remember he was the young one.

I loved that they talked him into pressing charges and I love how the other guys had grown into this sense of family. They all looked out for each other and when Julian needed help they all went above and beyond to make sure he was okay.

Vic? He made me sick. I was disgusted that he kept gettnig away with being such a terrible person. No matter what he's trying to hide, there is no excuse for any level of bullying but he was just over the top terrible. It ruined a little bit of the book for me.
Overall though I love this series and I can't wait to read more.

3.5 of 5 really

I like how Carol Lynn is able to give her characters balance between being emotional but still sport-playing, athletic men. Maybe its me (not having read much sports-romance) but she seems to realize you don't have an extreme for each (partner's) role.

Koby is an 18 year old freshman quarterback with a lot to prove. He wants the starter position on the team but he's also got the hots for the Athletic Director.

Julian wants Koby. The man is gorgeous! But Juilian not only worries about corrupting a student but also, what will Koby think of him if he reveals his secrets.

This is Book#3 in the Campus Cravings series. Your definitely getting to know the characters well (from Book #1 Justin and Luc, Book #2 Alec and Max). The tone was heavier than the first 2 but still, overall, the appeal of this series keeps me turning to the next book as soon as I finish the last.

Julian and Koby are into each other but it first Julian isn't sure because he's the conditioning coach and Koby is his player. He thinks it's against University policy but it's not. they end up together after Koby gets sick because he's not taking care of herself like you should wanting to get a head start and push his self in training. He's exhausted and dehydrated according to the clinic at the University. he's not getting much sleep either because of his roommates having so many people over. So Julian tells him to move in with him after they finally get together while Koby staying there during his sickness.

They got a lot to overcome more Julian than anyone because of his past with his dad who won till he was like 14 didn't realize he was actually abusing him. He thought it was normal father-son relation. Julian has counseling during the book which definitely helps him get out from under the guilt and he's had thanking that no one would love him if they knew the truth. Koby makes him understand that he's not going to leave him and he's not disgusted by the truth. Koby actually stands up to Julian's dad lays him out literally at one point.

Koby's also having his problem with the actual quarterback. Vic his dad is against people at Julian and Koby which has leaked into Vick he's always bullying Koby. Koby tells Vicks Dad off before the game. Which the man tells Vic that if he doesn't play the whole game then he might as well not come home. Well Vic barely played any because the first few minutes of the game he didn't do anything he literally caught the ball and knelt down and held it. When the referee called for all the players to get off of him he gave the guy the ball and walked off the field. Koby was actually proud of him for what he did. I especially was for the way he was the entire book. I kind of hoping that there might be a book about Vic. I have all of the campus craving books now so I'm hoping there will be a book about Vic.

After the last book I read in a different trilogy and different author even though it was m / m this was a wonderful book. It had the right amount of smut and the right amount of story with a little bit of angst but nothing to really drive the characters apart it was more their personal demons they had to overcome. Carol Lynne has yet to let me down besides the book 2 of the series. But that was my own personal reasons for not liking Alec. If I need to go to Anna lift up I'll pick her books. I wish there was more of them.

This was the third book in Carol Lynne's Campus Craving series. I am reading them in order, though each book can be read as a standalone.

This was easily my favorite book out of the first three in the series. Julian and Koby break an unofficial taboo, when a member of the faculty becomes intimately involved with a student. While this is hardly a novel scenario, there are some unique aspects of this book that stood out for me.

There is an unconventional division of power when the very young 18 year old, Koby, becomes a life coach, protector and first love of the 25 year old personal trainer, Julian. As a child, Julian is the victim of the most heinous crime that a parent can commit. Though it's not mentioned outright, it becomes evident that Julian suffers from PTSD when he regresses back to a traumatized childlike fugue after an unexpected confrontation from his father. Koby, wise beyond his years, is there to pick up the pieces and help put the broken child in Juluan back together again.

A story of redemption and closure. This book beautifully embraces the concept that family is not necesarrily someone who shares your blood, but someone who shares your heart.

Read as part of Campus Cravings Vol. 1: On the field. I liked this and I felt like it had a little better flow then the first two books, Coach and Side-Lined. They said "I love you" way too soon, as usual. It's just not necessary. They went from being interested in exploring what was between them... to love. There's no reason they couldn't have just said they had been training together for a few months and had it be later in the season, so they at least would have seemed to know each other first. But it seems the insta-love is Ms. Lynne's MO so I guess I should get used to it.

Anyway, the story-line had it's drama, but I was glad she kept to basically the one thing so things didn't get too busy, since this is only about 90 pages. I did think it was a little weird that they talked about Koby's somewhat messed up family life, but then never brought it up again. I guess they just wanted to explain why he's so mature for his age and make it more realistic that he would be so understanding with Julian. But I don't even know if Julian knows about his home life. I wish they would have showed us at least one scene with Koby opening up to Julian, instead of telling us in a narrative.

They set up Dimitri and Aaron's book, Off-Season, which is next. And I'm interested to find out more about Rocco, Coach Williams' son, and can't wait for his book, Forbidden Freshman. (Both of these can be found in Campus Cravings Vol. 2: Off The Field)

Koby McIntire is a college freshman football player who falls for Julian, his conditioning coach, a man with a troubled past. Will Koby be able to help Julian overcome his problems? Perhaps with the aid of the other coaches and players, most of whom are gay (or gay friendly) as well.

This novel was a bit of a disappointment for me. It felt a bit like it was cut and pasted from ideas that the author had but hadn't gone back to and added the details and connections necessary to make the reader fully empathize with the characters. Also the editing was some of the poorest I've seen in a while from a veteran writer. I kept noticing missing apostrophes and started keeping score (a max of 3 on 1 page)

The overall plot, involving standing up to parental abuse, was a good idea and the rivalry between the starting quarterback and his freshman rival was also good if the author had stepped up and made it more realistic. Also I had a bit of a problem with the sex scenes in the book. While the boilerplate plot elements were there there was nothing special about them and I seldom got to enjoy the "movie in my mind" that a good section of prose can evoke.

In short there was nothing too terrible here but nothing too memorable either. I'd read something else by this author if it was recommended to me but I'm in no hurry to explore her works further on my own.

Note: I was given a copy of this by the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

What can I say, I am a HUGE Carol Lynne fan! *grin* Her books never fail to please! This was a solid 4-star read for me. I loved how the dynamics between Koby and Julian were sorta in reverse... but, as the story goes along it all makes sense! Koby, the eighteen-year-old and college freshman, was in a place in his life that he could see the world more clearly than Julian, at twenty-four! Their pasts have made them into the men they are and only they can make the future what they want it to be. Julian's quest for a future with Koby isn't an easy one, but his love must overcome his fears... because he knows that Koby is the future he wants!

Now, I just have to find a place in my TBR to read Off-Season! This wasn't the story that I was hoping for next, but, I am sure it will be a short, entertaining read... and I just know we will get to Rocco's story... eventually! ;D

This is the third book in Carol Lynn's Campus Cravings Series and we get to see all of the characters from the first two books. I liked how they were tied back in to this book, even if it was somewhat brief for some of them. This one featured Julian Malono, who we actually met in the second book, who is the conditioning football coach at the college and the freshman quarterback, McIntire. They both bring a lot of bagage to the relationship. Both are damaged characters, Julian much more so that Koby. Julian has a scary past that really has a damaging affect on him but Koby is willing to help him work it out, along with the help of some of the cast from the previous books.

It was a sweet story. I thought it got a bit sappy, but a little bit of sap is good for the soul sometimes. I've enjoyed this series so far and plan to keep on reading to the end. I enjoy Carol Lynne's style.

Im loving more and more this series...

Now it's Julian turn to find his true love; Julian is now the physical trainer for the football team, but this year there is this new freshman who is looking for the chance to get the quaterback position and Julian is more than happy to work side by side with the beutiful boy but he is still afraid he is too old for Koby.

Koby had admired Julian since forever, and now meeting him in bone and flesh he not only admired him but lust after him; Koby had been open since a young age about his sexual preference and have no problem with it, except for the bigots.

I really like the develop of their love story, how Koby helps Julian to acept and help to move over from a childhood trauma was heart warming.

I rooting for this serie more and more.

Julian Malono is the conditioning coach for Coach Justin's football team and he is attracted to the up and coming QB star, Koby McIntire. Julian has a lot of dark secrets in his past, however, that make it difficult for him to open up to Koby. This book was pretty good, but a little predictable. The theme of growing up with physical abuse that makes it difficult for an MC to have a real relationship, has been done many times and this book didn't add anything new or interesting to the genre. But as book 3 in a series, I thought it was a good addition. I liked Julian and Koby and I did enjoy watching them reach their HEA.

You can't help but cry for Julian and some of the other guys in this book. Julian was verbally, physically and sexually abused by his father as a kid and now feels like he does not deserved to be loved by Koby. I couldn't help but cheer for Koby when he beats the crap out of Julian's father. We never do get all of Julian's story. Koby had never been loved by anyone, even his own parents fought over who would be stuck with him, until he met Julian. I wish the book was longer and gave more of the back story of the characters.

In this third installment of Campus Cravings we get Koby’s story and get to meet his mother. I want to start out by saying “I don’t like this woman!” She belittles her son’s talent, thinking he should be working on the farm instead of worrying about football. Koby’s family doesn’t support him either. Koby plays for the fans, they are his family.

It's been since November 2013 that I read my last Carol Lynne book. It took a while to get back into this series. I didn't like the last book Side-Lined at all. I was pretty bored with this book. I took a lot of breaks while reading it. Didn't quite understand Julian's dad's motivation for coming back into his son's life now. This was just an okay read for me.

Carries It Across the Goal Line and Kicks the Extra Point

Third in a series set at a college in Idaho, of all places, this one rings true on so many levels that you are pulling for Julian and Koby every step of the way while suspecting that somewhere along the line a true psychological explosion will shatter their lives.

That's enough. Found this to be thrilling, heartbreaking and fast moving all the way to the goal line--with a heck of a kick for the extra point..

Julian was a bit of a hot mess in this story. In a roundabout way, his past childhood trauma came to light and he struggled to understand how Koby could want to get entangled in his mess of a life. Despite his younger age, Koby was quite mature and determined to show Julian that love could prevail if given the chance. Nice story!

This book circled around some tough issues (child abuse in particular) but in a rather distant way - no details; it dealt with the impact for the victim many years in advance. It was a feel-good story but a bit bland. It just didn't have that extra something to lift it from 'good'... (a bit like being called 'nice'! ;)

I really enjoyed the story of Koby and Julian. It was refreshing to see a story where the younger character was essentially the stronger character. He held them together when Julian wasn't sure he could and when the brutal and tragic events of Julian's past came back to haunt him, Koby was there, supportive and loving and undeniably in love.

Such a great short story!!

Julian has a lot of baggage and works as a football coach, he meets Koby a freshman on the team.
