I read a few shorts that were ok but not extraordinary.
The little halloween audio from Neil Gaiman
was... unsettling.I'm currently reading
. I'm at the beginning but I like the twist on mythology that the author has going.
Click-Clack was good for such a short short. I really like Neil's voice; good narrator. How was Covet? Grabbed that one TBR.
I love this idea, I have way too many freebie TBR's to count and gain more daily. Please add me to this challenge 11/1/12 thru 11/1/13. Thanks
Welcome, Joni! You are definitely not alone there. Val (and others) keep us fully stocked on freebies! I'll never have enough time to read them all, yet I can't stop grabbin' um.
How was Covet? Good. There was less plot but still decent character development (for a 100 pages short) but the rules governing the vamp society did not make sense. Short but enjoyable all the same.Have you read her angel freebie one? I found it was more...balanced.
This month I was not able read much of my freebies either. I had it all planned with 3 freebies in a reading challenge...and I changed my mind for other shiny covers. Dang it!I did try not start any new books yesterday so I managed to read shorts:
The idea might have been good but the execution was quite poor.
Short, too short to really appreciate it. It had all the bones for a nice fairytale story. I'm not saying that it's a Beauty and the Beast story but it made me smile.
Never read anything by this author but if you could make me yearn for more with so little pages. The story is complete even with so much left unsaid that it rips my heart out.
I want more Pritkin! it was a nice snack but like popcorn...it's never enough. When is the next book coming out?
Some clean up before the year is out is needed.
by Annie McLeod ★★★☆While suffering from editing errors I liked the world-building and plot. The fact that 3 characters represent all level of society: pegasian for upper crust, humans for middle class and mermaids for rift raft gave some pretty nice interactions. While short, it had all the necessary backbone to flesh out the story.
by Kaitlyn O'Connor ★★★★This one is actually a prequel. It was nice to have another Cyberevolution book. Some typo errors that can't be forgiven. It was not the best but not the worst of the series.
Thanks for your little reviews, Val! Very handy when scrolling through the massive list of freebies (you've helped me) accumulated.
I finished
today, and I was quite surprised with it! I was expecting more romance, but it was more action/adventure in a post-apocalyptic setting. It was fast paced with lots of action, but there were two very steamy romance scenes too.★★★★☆
No problem! I just read it to finish up my Author A-Z challenge for another group, so I was very happy that it ended up being a winner. :)
Lol, I need the letter U for an A-Z challenge challenge too. I might use it. I saw another member from another GR group mentioning that it was a good freebie.
Completely unrelated but I started skimming for another freebie to read and found
...the writing style is...I don't know...a bit dated (even if it came out in 2011) and I can't stop reading. So much is happening that it's a roller coaster ride.I can't really describe it, it's simple and understated...a bit like the Anna Strong Chronicles but not quite.
Finished freebie
and not my typical type of read, but enjoyed it. Very Janette Oke Love Comes softly like, but the "light" version. Also bought
and

Good job Leslie! I need to get going to on mine.
Thanks!I have so many books that I find for free. I always rate the books, but I don't always review. But there have been some good finds in there! Elizabeth Naughton's Eternal Guardian series is one that stands out and the best one is Kiss of Steel by Bec McMaster. And Marsha Canham often has her books greatly reduced - they are always 4 or 5 star reads.
Angie wrote: "I finished

I loved
so much that I when right on reading up to book 4 of the series (and I never read one book after the other). Book 4 has a lot of WTF moments but in a good way, taking some time off from this series before they populate all my reading challenges of the month.
Just finished
and working on
, and liking it. Something just grabs ya and won't let go with this one...
So I haven't done squat with this challenge since my original start date in April, so I'm scrapping that start date and starting as of today. I'll still use post 3 in this thread though.
New resolutions are good things Paris, keep it up!For me I have slacked a bit in reading freebies too. So far I have 21 books and 29 shorts done since April. Progress on post 2. My latest freebie is easy to guess:
21. Angelfall by Susan Ee(freebie from Amazon), 15/01/2013 ★★★★★
OMG, So good and lucky me I don't have to wait another year for the next one....and I normally don't like YA.
Great job Leslie! I wish I was as good as you. For my part I have 24 books and 41 shorts read. I still have until the end of April to add a few more.
I'm surprised a bit, I did not expect people to try it along with me. ;)
From what I can see:
AH has done 8
Amy or "Ames" has done 56
Angie has done 44
Debbie has done 6 or 16
Heather has done 5
Josie has done 26
Leslie has done 51
Mary has done 9
Paris has done 9
Steph has done 6
Tracy has done 5
Oh well. My challenge year is done. I managed to read 28 novels and 53 shorts. It does not even make a dent in my freebie pile but I discovered nice little series that way.My list
I don't see a start/end date to this challenge. Can we still sign up for it, and for how long. My kindle is overflowing with freebies I never get around to - so this challenge is ideal for me :)
Anita, its a self challenge, so you can start anytime and keep going as long as you want to or when you run out of freebies. LOL.
"Run out of freebies" Oh how I sometimes wish that was possible. But, then I remember, no, must never run out of books, don't ever think it. LOL! >:)
Steph wrote: ""Run out of freebies" Oh how I sometimes wish that was possible. But, then I remember, no, must never run out of books, don't ever think it. LOL! >:)"Ha! I once saw a quiz where you entered your age and the number of books on your to-read list and the number of books you read a year and it told you how many years it would take to get through that list (as if you wouldn't keep on adding to it).
