Book Deadlocked

Rating 3 stars

Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris
Review

This book really dragged on at the beginning, because it was pretty much just Sookie doing her daily life stuff and I really didn't care to hear about her peeling sweet potatoes for a casserole or if she shaved her legs.

The romance was also lacking Sookie was living like a nun.

Of course there was a major mystery that she had to solve and blah blah blah. To sum it up I was just bored. I think the only thing that made me give this book 3 stars was the last chapter and oddly enough I find myself looking forward to the last book to see what Sookie's ever after will be.

Sandra | 25910 comments I try not to do scary, they give me nightmares. LOL.

message 310: by Elishia (new)

Elishia LOL Same here. I was intrigued because of the Amish setting but a few pages in she saw something and I thought don't think i'll be reading this at night ( I live alone so i'd freak myself out). But i'm staying at my mums for a few days so i'll read it while I have company.

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments Serpent's Kiss (Elder Races, #3) by Thea Harrison

Shelf: vampires
Book: Serpent's Kiss by Thea Harrison
date read: 10/10/2012
rating: 4 stars

This book was so different from the first two, Dragon Bound and Storm's Heart in Elder Races series. Much less action and much more romance and this book was rather slow paced.
But I liked it better nevertheless.
I didn't care much of Dragos or Tiego , heroes of the first two books. They were all about raw power and predators killer instincts. Utterly alphas. In this book , Rune the Wyr sentinel, was much more intelligent, with a good sense of humor, patient and controlled his predator powers better. Of course an alpha-male, too, but not so robust and much more likable.
The story of romance/mating with Carling, the old Vampire Queen was sweet and I liked the way Rune broke down her barriers and fight for their love to find a cure to stop Carling slowly dying. He would have done anything to help her and he did.
Best book in Elder Race's series and I look forward to read the next one.

message 312: by Elishia (new)

Elishia I'll be finished by tomorrow if I don't have any interruptions.

message 313: by Elishia (new)

Elishia Shelf: Vampires
Book: The Hallowed Ones
Rating: ★★★★
Finished: 11/10/12
Review: I wasn't sure how this book was going to work at the beginning but I really liked it. I liked learning more about the Amish community and liked that Katie was a bit rebellious. I even liked the fact that the vampires were actually scary beast things :-) and not the typical vampires.

Deidre (AlaskaReader) | 267 comments Okay, I am going to read one of these: Birthmarked (Birthmarked, #1) by Caragh M. O'Brien or Widow’s Web (Elemental Assassin, #7) by Jennifer Estep or this book I can't remember the title or author except it starts with an R and it is book 3...

This one is really bad because you don't have to read a paranormal if you are dying to read something in a mystery series or sci fi or whatever...

message 327: by Elishia (last edited Oct 13, 2012 03:37PM) (new)

Elishia i'm not good when I have too much choice. Although some of my options are limited because i'm staying at my mums for a few days so I only have ebooks with me. I THINK i'll be reading My Regelence Rake (Sci-Regency, # 3) by J.L. Langley or Champion by Jet Mykles

Deidre (AlaskaReader) | 267 comments Deidre wrote: "Elishia wrote: "I know I don't know what to read to much choice."

you can't read Champion, not enough pages. It has to be 200 or more, and book 2 or later.

message 329: by Elishia (last edited Oct 13, 2012 03:43PM) (new)

Elishia oh didn't know about the book 2 bit, I keep forgetting to check the page numbers.

message 330: by Elishia (new)

Elishia Ok i'll be reading the above or one of these Rock Chick Renegade (Rock Chick, #4) by Kristen Ashley or Lady Luck (Colorado Mountain, #3) by Kristen Ashley i'll decide once I finish what i'm reading.

Options from challenges this month ...

Vampire Mine (Love at Stake, #10) by Kerrelyn Sparks How to Drive a Dragon Crazy (The Dragon Kin, #6) by G.A. Aiken Dark Warrior Untamed (The Talions, #3) by Alexis Morgan

I'm tempted to go Vampire Mine, just cause I've been trying to read it all year and keep putting it off.

I liked all of these, and although this one had a lot of icky stuff, and sometimes I wondered if Gaia's brains had fallen out (why keep trusting someone every 10 pages when all they do is torture you, kill your friends, lie, steal your things, try to execute you constantly etc etc.)

But still, I enjoyed it and am sorry this came to an end. She really grew up. Promised (Birthmarked, #3) by Caragh M. O'Brien

For some reason I kept putting off reading this one, and I shouldn't have.

Connor Buchanan, 499 yr old vamp, Roman's personal bodyguard, has been in a funk, and isn't happy that all his vamp buddies have been falling in love, marrying, and having children. It's not that he begrudges them happiness, he just doesn't know why they are doing it.

That is until he hears fighting, screams & sees lightning close by to a Casimir attack. He rushes to the rescue and finds a woman, wounded & bleeding in the dirt. He thinks she is a rebellious Malcontent and takes her to Romatech to be healed and to be interrogated. Little does he know the consequences of his actions. For she is an Angel of Death.

If I say anymore it would just be spoilers, so go read it yourselves.

Shelf: *series catch-up
Book: Pretties by Scott Westerfeld

rating: 4 stars

I liked how and where the story moves in the second book of the Uglies series.
This book was a good surprise. Picked it up from library because it was just there in front of me on the table. Glad I did.
We have a look into Pretties carefree living and Tally's and Zane's struggle to remember the life before and the attempt to break free.
Dystopia is really not my cup of tea but I think I will continue with this series. It's not so violent as the other dystopia books I have read.
I really want to know if Tally will find power within herself to stay strong against all odds and through more brain alterations.
