Work has been crazy and I'm fallen behind with my reading.
I will be done with Magic Bites by the time next shelf will be called.
Still don't know what to think about the book. It came with so high expectations and so far it hasn't been that amazing. I hope it gets better.

Yeah, I never really understood it either. Oh well, their loss. ;)

First book of the Kate Daniels series. This book came highly recommended and my expectations were high. Sadly it fell kind of flat for me. It wasn't bad or I didn't dislike it but it was just an ok read.
Kate was a true kick-ass-heroine, maybe even too tough, like a superwoman without a single weakness. I kept thinking how she could fight equally and invincibly with the shapeshifters if she is only human. Or maybe she is not. She uses a powerful magic and the question who she really is was left unanswered in this first book.
Kate and Curran. Nothing happened. Also a disappointment.
I did like the worldbuilding which was really unique and nothing like I have read before.

I kind of felt the same way after the first book, but now it's one of my all time favorite series! Stick with it and I think you'll really like the next books.

Andrea is at a crossroad in her life, should she join the pack, and should she try to work things out with Raphael.
I have to admit I didn't think much of Andrea in the Kate Daniels series, to me she was Kate's BFF who really really was into guns. Andrea proved that she is just as badass as Kate and I was sucked into this book and I had a hard time putting it down.
I really enjoyed the interactions between her a Raphael and how she felt like she loved him so much one minute and the next was ready to smack him upside the head.
I enjoyed reading about Andrea's path to find her true self and to feel like she really belongs.

It's a nice slow build for Kate & Curran, with the rest of the pack looking on, some for, most against.
It's definitely one of my fav series, so I hope you stick with it.
Yay! Jackie, glad you loved it as well. And Yay! Stamp!

You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'urban-fantasy'.

Everybody keeps telling me it gets better, so I plan to continue, yes.
What comes to my opinion on Kate and Curran - maybe it's the case of reading-too-many-romance-novels :P

Skandia, I luv romance novels, but KD is really a UF that develops a romance later. Glad you're gonna keep reading it.

I didn't like the first one very much, but I kept on. I didn't even keep the first two because I never wanted to read them again. I did like the first two books in her series The Edge, but haven't been able to get into book 3. I put off Gunmetal Magic, because I didn't like the characters, but i ended up liking them more than Kate.... So as others have said, hang in there! They get much better.

I have to give my oldest daughter a ride to work and I am hoping a new shelf will be waiting for me when I get back.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Elishia, but you have to read a book that is at least 200 hundred pages.

I need to buy Fury's Kiss. I may be the minority here but I really like her Cassie Palmer series better, but still enjoy Dorina.

I agree Jackie. I like both series, but I like the Cassie Palmer series better!

I like the humor in the Cassie books!
I've been fighting a cold, and was sent home from work this morning. But since I wasn't sick enough to sleep all day, I finished my vampires shelf book! Review to follow.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel reading about someone who is a seasoned assassin as the main character, but as I got into the book I found I like the main character. The main character, Gin, is an elemental - someone who controls one of the elements with magic. When she was 13, another elemental killed her family and she escaped to the streets. After some weeks she was taken in by a man and raised along with his son. He taught her the skills to survive and be an assassin. This story starts when her and her new family are double-crossed and she has to find out who and why and take care of the situation.
I've already put the next one on hold at my library!

Gin is a fav character for me, so strong, makes mistakes and just gets on with it. Definitely no TSTL moments with her.
I'm about a third the way into Fury's Kiss, but it is a chunkster :)

As I predicted my book is not the best, but I bought it awhile ago and will keep plugging away. I just put the kids to bed and my husband is at work so I am going to curl up in bed with my book.

I didn't care much for Dragos or Tiego but I like Rune :)

Vampire Shelf
10/10/12 ★★★★★
We waited so long for this book and It Doesn't Disappoint!
Mircea still has Dorina helping him in the War against the Mages and the Black Circle and when she is kidnapped and goes into a dhampir berserker rage and doesn't recognise Louis-Cesare when he comes to rescue her, Mircea wants her to take a break while he investigates ie goes back into her mind.
Dorina, while less than happy about that, agrees, then finds out what Mircea did to her mind in the past. She does however recover some childhood memories that let her see that Mircea really does love her.
The War between the Fey takes a new twist; Headless Ray now with added Head becomes Dorina's servant to avoid ending up dead by the hands of Cheung and Scarface; the race for the Senate Seats up for grabs hots up with the challenge fights and all 6 Consuls in attendance. But the pièce de résistance has to be Vampire Zombies!! A brilliantly, scarily executed idea Ms Chance.
There is action aplenty, like always, plenty of twists and turns, and Dorina not knowing all the answers but fighting on regardless, and earning respect from those who know her as well as those who love her.
Hope we don't have to wait as long for the next book.

I'm glad I'd just re-read both

There was so much action and a lot of characters to keep track of, that it certainly helped.

This was sooo good. the best so far, I think. So many things happen. Again, if you haven't read the earlier ones, you will miss stuff because she doesn't go back and redo it all. You can read it without reading the others.
One reason I gave it four instead of five is (view spoiler)
Jane really matures here. She travels all over the country trying to find out what is causing the vampire plague which seems to be killing them.
I also gave only 4 stars because Jane's love life is getting to be a bit much. I tend to tire of those who seem to have 4-5 guys on a string, and of course Jane is too too busy to figure out what is really going on there...
The ending was great, I want the next book NOW.

PLEASE, just don't point me to a book called Spiders Bite Deidre.
I'm happy to read Spiders Bite Sue or Spiders Bite Jackie. I am still finding spiders in my house from the great spider migration of 2012, and it is making me even more phobic, if that were possible!
