Thank you so much for being on our team."

I do read really fast. I think it was because I started young and we didn't have a TV. (My parents said it was so we wouldn't watch it, but after we got one when we kids were in high school, we realized it was my DAD who was the addict.)

When I try to figure out how I read, I can't do it. I think I scan and my brain fills in. I was always in the 99 percentile in reading comprehension, so I guess as long as I can do it, I won't worry about how!

That's also why I love my Kindle, I used to have to take a suitcase of books with me when I traveled (it is 3 to 3.5 hours just to Seattle, and then more to anyplace else). Now I just take a couple of books for times I can't use the Kindle, and my Kindle stuffed with books!

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater

Shelf: *Favorite Author
Book: Forever by Maggie Stiefvater
date read: 9/26/2012
rating: 4 stars

This is the last book in The Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy.
Saving the werewolves pack from destruction and finding the cure takes us back to the Minnesota forests with Sam, Grace, Cole and Isabel.
I love this series and the beautiful, sad and sweet writingstyle of Maggie Stiefvater. She can so easily show the feelings and pictures with her words and it's all just so different in a very beautiful and bittersweet way.
The last book was no exception, although maybe not as brilliant as the first two but still very good.
I know that there has been some critics regarding the ending of the series being left open and no final answers were given. I don't want to give away any spoilers here, but I kind of liked it this way. You can imagine the future and the life of Sam, Grace and Cole yourself , the author only leaving the options to choose the way a reader wants to see it. Sometimes it's better not to tell everything to the last word and as the author said herself – the story of Mercy Falls wolves finished for her right there. I totally understand and agree.

I'm waiting for the next shelf already and reading some historical in the meantime:)
Got a couple of books ready and lets hope Mr. R will be kind this time as well.

I was on travel for the last couple of days (Went to see my brother in the hospital. Long story, but he's going home today so that's good). I'm back today and I just purchased my book. I have a few hours free tonight so I plan to make some decent progress in my book tonight!

Sandra | 25910 comments One book I finished the other day, by a male author was Rivers of London (Peter Grant, #1) by Ben Aaronovitch also known as Midnight Riot (Peter Grant, #1) by Ben Aaronovitch in the States. I highly recommend it.

It is about a police constable in London who suddenly finds himself talking to a ghost, gets spotted by a police inspector and transferred to his supernatural squad of 2, including himself. Definitely UF with lots of good mystery and interesting backwaters of London. Throwaway comments include Harry Potter and Time Team. A very readable story.

message 168: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments Sandra, this book looks interesting. I have to check it out. London is one of my favorite cities and I like to read books set in familiar surroundings so I can actually picture the places the characters go and do their things.

Sandra | 25910 comments Lots of info about the Thames and Covent Garden & the Actor's Church etc etc ;)

message 170: by Elishia (new)

Elishia Id does sound interesting. Erm I live in London and i've never heard of the Actor's Church.

message 171: by Elishia (new)

Elishia Ooh it looks lovely I want to go.

message 172: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25910 comments Actor's Church also called St Pauls at Covent Garden :)

I like it when I learn something as well as enjoying the story.

Sandra | 25910 comments Deidre hope you're feeling better, don't worry about the book.

Though when I'm crook I try and read to forget how I'm feeling. Don't stress there's still 2 days to go till the next shelf.

Normally I do too, but after I read the pages several times, I realized I was too punk too remember what I was reading. I don't work on Fridays, so will finish it tomorrow.

message 176: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25910 comments I always find that annoying, when I want to read & the stupid head or eyes etc won't co-operate :)

message 177: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments Get well soon , Deidre!
The reason I was speedreading and catching up to date with shelves this week was my back, again :( So I was sort of immobile for three days, full of painkillers and nothing more to do than read :)
I'm well and up today and now the work is trying to kill me and I'm travelling next week so I would like to know the next shelf really bad already :P

message 178: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25910 comments Skandia, looks like we'll have to declare a hospital ward. Hope your back continues to hold you up and without pain!

Unfortunately, Mr R cannot be bribed or beaten. It's been tried before. LOL.

message 179: by Elishia (new)

Elishia Gosh hope you're both doing ok now. I should be finished today.

message 180: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 695 comments I will have my book done today when I get home from work. I am at 93% but I was too tired too finish it last night. I think I read the same page about three times and still wasn't sure what I was reading.

Hope you two ladies are feeling better soon.

Elishia Shelf Favourite Authors Lynsay Sands
Book: The Lady is a Vamp (Argeneau, #17) by Lynsay Sands
Rating: ★★★★
Finished: 28/09/12
Review: I've been waiting so long for Jeanne Louise's story and it was worth the wait. I really loved it, it was more of a serious story compared to the others but still made me laugh and cry and I loved Livy.

Book: Shadow Bound (Unbound, #2) by Rachel Vincent
Read: 9/28/12
Rating: ****

It took me a bit to get into this; reminded me of Ilona Andrews Edge series where each book is about someone different. Kori, the main female character was in the last book, but I sure didn't like her. It took me some pages to remember who she was. Ian who was there due to reasons I won't go into since it is a spoiler, seemed like a pretty cool villain/hero. Because of the complexity, being sick made it impossible to follow the story. I started over this am and am glad I did.

The world this takes place in is very interesting, and scary. But worth reading. I did like book 1 as well.

I liked this. A relief, because I loved her Shifters, but Soul Screamers leaves me cold.

Ben Aaronovitch - I've read all three so far, including the latest one. Loved them. Makes me laugh out loud. The new one, Whispers Under Ground Whispers Under Ground (Peter Grant, #3) by Ben Aaronovitch ,is even funnier, A quote:

“My dad was a fairy," said Zach "And by that I don't mean he dressed well and enjoyed musical theatre.”

This is Special Agent Kimberly Reynolds from the FBI and we all went “ooh” the whole room we just couldn't help ourselves. That didn't bode well for the international cooperation because we were all bound to be extra surly to cover up the embarrassment.

Sandra | 25910 comments LOL. I could see both of those quotes!!!! I've got all 3 just need to find the time to read them.

Deidre (AlaskaReader) | 267 comments I am going to hide under the bed today. It is supposed to snow. We have serious floods all over Southcentral Alaska due to the monsoons (called "high winds and heavy rains" for some unknown reason). Weeks of incredible amounts of rain and now SNOW???? No, I won't have it.

If I had a book from a new shelf, it would go with me. Bye now.

Chasing Magic (Downside Ghosts, #5) by Stacia Kane
review
In this 5th installment of the Downside Ghosts series Chess still finds herself unworthy of love, but is finally making the right decisions when it comes to Terrible.
As always I really enjoyed reading about Chess and rooting for her to wise up and be the person that I know she is.
She had some tough moments when someone that has always seen the good in her, faith in her falters, but I am hoping things will work out in that aspect of her life eventually.
I really enjoyed the ending when she makes a big decision and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
