It looks like this shelf will give a lot of teams 4 in a row. I think next week the winning shelf will be called, just my prediction.

If I had waited to start "Fury's Kiss" a couple of days I could have used that one instead! But I'll put that aside and start on "Endgame" today. I hope to finish it fast since I was enjoying "Fury's Kiss!" Although I did find I couldn't read it tired, too much going on. I look forward to your review of it Jackie!

Review: OMG loved this book I wish I hadn't waited so long now to read it. The 2 Mc's were both messed up in there own ways but were perfect for each other. Abby wasn't the type of girl Travis would usually go for i.e she wasn't into one night stands and or a bimbo. And Travis was exactly the type of guy abby didn't want to get involved with, but he turned in to a much better person when he was around Abby. There were a few annoying bit in it but nothing to bad, looking forward to the next one, heard its about one of the Maddox brothers.

Right off the top, I will say that I should have given this book a 5, but the ending SUCKED BIG TIME!!!!!
I love zombie books, most of them, and I do not recall how I came to get this one. But it is not really a zombie book, any more than Ulysses by Joyce is about the ancient Ulysses. This book grabbed my by my guts and did not let me go till the stupid ending.
The basic plot is that zombies attack and 6 kids hole up in a school, trying to survive. But that is a back story. Sloane Price is the story teller. She had an awful home life. Her mother was killed in an accident, her father was an abusive monster, beating her and making rules that she couldn't possibly follow so that he could punish her. She had a sister, and it took me a long time to figure out whether her sister ran away or killed herself. In any event, her sister abandoned her either way, leaving her to bad daddy. This girl was a real mess, depressed, post-traumatic stress, such a wreck that she couldn't really even think through most of the book.
But the day the book starts, Sloane has decided to kill herself. She is very serious about it, and because of that, the story kind of jumps around. She really doesn't want to survive, although she ends up with 5 kids who do.
Her grief over her sister, her terrible life, her anguish, made me think of my own teen years, something I don't enjoy doing. This author just hung me out to dry (I felt like I was listening to Roberta Flack sing "Killing me Softly" - which, BTW, was NOT a song about Don McLean, even though Wikipedia and Don say it was).
This book is worth reading. It is JD Salinger writing about the zombie apocalypse. I was unable to stop reading it, and ended up dropping everything else to finish it. Writing this review is also very hard. Read it. Just don't complain to me about the ending.

Book: Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews

I picked this book up because almost everybody kept telling me that the series will get better and I had my hopes up.
There must be something wrong with me, because I liked the second book even less than the first one. I don't like the dystopian genre in general and in the Kate Daniels books the world is a lot like it, destroyed by magic and too weird and depressing for me. The other thing that puts me off is that I can't make myself to like Kate for some reason. The battle scene in the end of the book was where I lost my interest completely.
I think it's the end of Kate Daniels for me, at least for now.

Kate is definitely one of my favs but I totally understand if she isn't for you :(

Starting this weekend is when my work life starts to get crazy because of the holidays, so I too think I'll get a book lined up.

Hopefully because I have 2 ready to go.

I'm not making the best of progress on my book, but it's been a busy week with birthdays (my Granddaughter's first birthday is tomorrow, my husband's was Monday) and other stuff. I do plan to read as much as possible tonight and Friday to be done with my book before the next shelf. And seeing that my Saturday is booked until midnight, I'll look ahead to the paranormal fantasy shelf as well and have a book ready in case it is called.

Unfortunately, I've got people coming to my place on Sunday for a BBQ, but I should still get some reading done. If the book is good, I can read it till its finished, after they all leave. LOL

It's not a bad ending like Stephen King's earlier books. I read an interview with him where he said he realized that just because he wrote horror didn't mean he had to kill the favorites or have a bad ending. Which is why his newer books are not as depressing....
The ending just didn't match the rest of the book. It was completely different, maybe the author just wanted to finish the book!

As far as I know, it is a stand alone.

I'll be reading

I know some of my friends gave this one 4 & 5 stars, but it just didn't do it for me. It was dreadfully slow to get going and took way too long to become interesting. It was all too mysterious but the MCs just didn't hold my attention long enough to get to the interesting part.
Miranda, a young miss who strangely can control fire, ends up marrying Lord Archer, who is disfigured and wears a mask. Its either marry him or go on the streets, so marriage it is. Lord Archer has loved her from afar and can't resist marrying her when he gets the chance.
But how did he become disfigured? Who is committing all the gross murders? Why did he deny Miranda any part in the dénouement when he knew she was more than capable? Once again the plucky girl has to rescue the hero from himself. Talk about clichés.
The writing is good and the last third of the book flew by, pity about first two thirds.
I'll read the next one, only because I've already got it, at least it is about werewolves.

I loved the story and the historical London setting and hope the next one will be better for you too!

And like I said, I found the writing itself good, so I'm hopeful it was just first book syndrome.

I also have a book picked out if paranormal fantasy is called.

This is the final book in the Sirantha Jax series. She's gone to La'heng to help her friend liberate his people. It's a long, drawn out war. But in the book Ann Aguirre wraps everything up. Jax's relationship with March, and her complicated friendship with Vel. There is a lot of sadness in the book, but I thought it wrapped up the series fairly well. From the start to finish of this series, Jax has gone through quite a lot, but I found the other reality interesting. Not a happy, pick-me-up type of story, but interesting in that her world building was different and kept me interested. I am glad the series was brought to a decent end though!
And I'm glad I finished the book in time! Here's hoping our winning shelf is called tomorrow!

Review
I don't even know where to begin.
I wish that I would have reread the previous two books from the series, because I think I would have enjoyed this one more.
There was so much action in this book that there were times I felt overwhelmed and it made my head hurt.
Overall I really enjoyed the book, seeing the story unfold and many answers to my questions resolved.
I liked how Dory realized that her father did what he did to her in the past to protect her and I think she finally realizes that yes he usually has motives, but he really does care for her and she really does care for him too.
It was great that she turned out to be the real hero in the end and that she finally feels equal to those around her.
I look forward to the next installment and hope to not have to wait over 2 years for it.

I will be at work when the new shelf is called so if someone is able to post a link for our team I would really appreciate it.
I will check on my phone later at work to see what the new shelf is and then post my pick when I get home from work.
Have a great day ladies!
