I thought so too, but I had previously noticed some reviews didn't like book 2. Since book 3 arrived yesterday, I am holding off (I wanted to dive right in) to see if it fits the next shelf!

Book: Once Burned
Finished: 11/1/12

For the most part, I really enjoyed this book. Leila was seriously injured as a teenager, which left her with a large scar and odd powers. She ends up joining a circus and pairing up with a dwarf vampire in an act since he is one of the few people that can handle (live through) her new power. But other vampires hear of her power, and want to use it to kill Vlad Tepesh. He ends up saving her, and the rest of the book is about finding the vampire behind the threats to him, and Vlad and Leila's relationship. I probably would have rated the book a 4, but I didn't like the ending. I know, series books end like that and it usually gets better with each book. I think it was just my mood when I finished last night - I was feeling unsettled! But I did enjoy the story and the writing!

Once Burned did have an unsettling ending, no doubt about it. Just hope Vlad gets his act together sooner rather than later in the next book.

For me this book was a bit slow and felt like a filler book. I did like it but probably could of skipped a good chunk of the middle and not really would of missed anything important.
What I did like was seeing Sydney thinking more for herself and fitting the Alchemist mold. I was a little disappointed that she didn't catch on to things a bit quicker considering she is supposed to be so smart.
I am hoping the next book will be more up to par with the writing that I have come to love from Richelle Mead.

book Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet

I have loved this series from the start. Probably because it makes me laugh out loud, and that will give it at least 3 stars no matter what the book is (unless I am laughing in disbelief...)
Charley is a bit more of a mess, still suffering from the torture in the last book, being betrayed by her father and ending up in jail. Although that isn't really explained in this one. She is very different but still Charley. If Cookie wasn't around, not sure what would have happened to Charley.
But leave it to Charley, she is miserable, in pain, depressed etc, so she instead of getting drunk or getting in fights like so may of our kick-ass heroes do, she goes on an endless tv shopping channel spree, spending money she doesn't even have on things she doesn't want (or even remember getting). Cookie has to cancel all her cars and bring her back from woo-woo land, with the help of Charley's normal coterie of "interesting" friends.
Her love life? Let's just say it would be a spoiler, although beautiful Reyes is around.
I know some don't like this series, but it takes me away and makes me laugh so I can't wait till book 5!
For those of you who don't know, Charley is the Grim Reaper. And for those that do, I am sticking the first paragraph of the book here, because it is so damn funny.
PS I got this off Ms. Jones website and I don't think it's a spoiler at all, just encouragement for you to get this book and read it!!
"Only two things in life are certain. Guess which one I am."
—Charley Davidson, grim reaper
"I sat watching the Buy From Home Channel with my dead Aunt Lillian and wondered what my life would've been like had I not just eaten an entire carton of Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Therapy with a mocha latte chaser. Probably about the same, but it was something to think about.
"A midmorning sun filtered through the blinds and cut hard streaks of light across my body, casting me in an ultra-cool film noir effect. Since my life had definitely taken a turn toward the dark side, film noir fit. It would have fit even better if I weren't wearing Star Wars pajama bottoms and a sparkly tank top that proudly proclaimed EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY. But I just didn't have the energy that morning to change into something less inappropriate. I’d been having lethargy issues for a few weeks now. And I was suddenly a tad agoraphobic. Ever since a man named Earl tortured me.
"It sucked.
"The torture. Not his name."

I've been putting off reading this series. Werewolves aren't my favorite subject but they have surprised me once before in Maggie Stiefvater's YA series.
In this book they surprised me again. Wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. Adult weres made even better story and an original plotline of Elena being the only living female werewolf was quite fresh and different.
The somewhat relaxed pace of the book didn't bother me at all and I enjoyed the author's style of telling the story and giving all the necessary background info for understanding the characters and the plot.

This is the second book in the Stormwalker series. In this one, Janet is trying to learn to control her new powers with the help (and threats) from her dragon boyfriend and Coyote. There was a part in the middle of the book that I just didn't understand, and wondered why a smart person would do what she did, but I guess that helped the story along. I do like that she didn't just cower to what people told her (even if it was various gods), and struggled to do what was ultimately right. I have to say, I'm enjoying the series!

Amaliya wakes up to find herself buried underground. She's not sure what has happened to her so she just follows her gut instincts and does what she feels she needs to do. She pretty much just muddles her way through and figures out that she is a vampire.
The one who made her is following her and and is treating her like some sort of science project. Amaliya realizes that she needs to find others like her so she can learn how to be a vampire. Along the way she learns she has a cool power that is rare and meets Cian another vampire who helps with her cope with being a vampire.
I really enjoyed this story because it was about hardcore vampires who are mean and vicious. Yet you do get to see that there is some human emotions left.
I look forward to reading the next book.

Review: I've been putting this off because I didn't like something that happened in the last book. This one was good as you got more information on her preternatural state but there wasn't any romance and it wasn't as funny as the previous ones.

As to Janet Begay the Stormwalker - love her books. And to break up my YA I read Blameless again yesterday, though I do like it more than you did Elishia :)

Dark Fantasy

★★★1/2
Second book in the Dark Elite series, sees Lily, firespell adept, schoolgirl at St Sophia's and her BFF Scout, a spellbinder, battle a new and icky creature. Think 5ft fanged, slimy creatures, as well as Vampires and Reapers.
I found the beginning of this book dreadfully slow but it eventually picked up and wasn't a bad story.
Mysterious boys, mysterious parents, but as its YA definitely nothing more than kissing some of the mysterious boys.
Not sure if I'll continue the series or not.
