Originally from Oregon, USA, I've lived in Japan for two decades juggling various day jobs as teacher, proofreader, and voice actor, and DJ. Write on long train rides between jobs or wherever I can sneak in the time.

FINAL STATS for Writing Submissions in 2024

I've been meaning to post an update on my 2024 writing progress. Here it is.Overall, 2024 was disappointing. I expected more success. In the past two years (2023-2024), I have more than doubled my number ofsubmissions made each year compared to 2022, and yet, I have not seen an increase in my accepted pieces. In 2023, 470 submissions and 4 accepted, and in 2024, 428 submissions and 3 accepted.

Neal Stephenson
“Arguing with anonymous strangers on the Internet is a sucker's game because they almost always turn out to be—or to be indistinguishable from—self-righteous sixteen-year-olds possessing infinite amounts of free time.”
Neal Stephenson, Cryptonomicon

Neal Stephenson
“Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, every so often, that under the right circumstances he could be the baddest motherfucker in the world. If I moved to a martial-arts monastery in China and studied real hard for ten years. If my family was wiped out by Colombian drug dealers and I swore myself to revenge. If I got a fatal disease, had one year to live, and devoted it to wiping out street crime. If I just dropped out and devoted my life to being bad.”
Neal Stephenson

Neal Stephenson
“I just saved your fucking life, Mom. . . . You could at least offer me an Oreo.”
Neal Stephenson, Snow Crash

Neal Stephenson
“There's only four things we do better than anyone else:
music
movies
microcode (software)
high-speed pizza delivery”
Neal Stephenson

China Miéville
“Loads of children read books about dinosaurs, underwater monsters, dragons, witches, aliens, and robots. Essentially, the people who read SF, fantasy and horror haven't grown out of enjoying the strange and weird.”
China Miéville
