I don’t want something that’s all spice, but I also don’t want a completely closed-door romance.
The best example I can give is Variation by Rebecca Yarros. It had everything I love: a solid story, emotional depth, and just the right amount of steam. Crossroads by Devney Perry is another book I’m really enjoying, so something along those lines would be great.
What I don’t want: 🚫 Military/war romances (which is why I haven’t picked up more of Yarros’s books) 🚫 It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover—just not enough spice or depth for me 🚫 Medieval, dragon-slaying type of romances 🚫 BDSM-heavy books
