*WWII for Finns was a different experience than for those in the Western Allied countries because the main threat was the Soviet Union who had already invaded the country and occupied the neighbouring Baltic countries, so the German troops in Lapland were there helping Finns, not an occupation force, and Finland also remained a democracy all throughout the war ( and afterwards) and was never occupied, by either side. Because Lapland was and is so sparsely populated, it also meant that there were about 200,000 German soldiers when the civilian population, mostly women, was maybe around 50,000 in total. (The total population of Finland was 3.7 million, which is not quite enough to fight another war alone against the Soviet Union, with a population of 170 million...)
