I don't know if your English teacher would consider this a "Classic", but it is a SF novel written by a Nobel Prize Laureate... so it might work... (I think The Golden Notebook or The Good Terrorist are much better books, but then I don't like SF, so perhaps this will be just your cup of tea!)
