The book takes place in a dystopian, futuristic world. The city is surrounded by a tall, tough built fence and its citizens believe it is to keep whatever is beyond it, out. The city is made up of five factions, Abnegation, Amity, Dauntless, Erudite and Candor. They all work together in harmony, with each faction doing their part to keep the city running like a well oiled machine. The story comes from the point of view of Beatrice Prior, a sixteen year old girl who is known as Divergent, giving the novel its title. The introduction into the story gives a background to Beatrice's family life, in her faction Abnegation. When she and her peers turn 16 it is time to make the decision as to what faction you become a part of for the rest of your life. When Beatrice chooses, it opens her up to many more decisions and lots of courage she finds in herself. In conclusion this book takes you on the adventure of a girl finding herself in a city that is broken and a world that is yet to be discovered.

It is about a girl trying to find her place in a flawed society, but discovers that she doesn't fit in anywhere. It takes place in a futuristic post-apocalyptic Chicago where everyone is divided into five factions: Abnegation (the selfless) Amity (the peaceful) Candor (the honest) Dauntless (the brave) and Erudite (the intelligent). The main character (Tris Prior) was born in Abnegation but struggles with choosing to stay with her family or leave them to find where she belongs. A lot of people say that Divergent is exactly like the Hunger Games but the only thing they have in common is a 16 year old female protagonist and that it's in a dystopian world

Do you like action? Adventure? and of course a hero? If you said yes to one, or all three of these things then Divergent is the book for you. In Divergent everyone lives in this dystopian society where they are separated by there traits and attributes. Divergent is a great book that kept me wondering what was going to happen next i caught myself reading for hours not being able to put the book down. With any great book there’s likable characters and in Divergent you fall in love with these characters. Story starts with young Beatrice Prior where she is wondering who she is and where she belongs. Unlike everyone else Beatrice doesn't belong to one faction of people but three and she doesn't know which to choose. And she quickly learns she choose the wrong one when she has to fight for her place among the dauntless and when people find out she's divergent, belonging to multiple factions, she has to fight for her life. Divergent is a great book about self discovery and even got me asking myself “Who am I”. Divergent isn't like any other book i’ve read it is very different and creative and it is by far one of my favorite. So if you love books about a flawed society and a young hero trying to find her place then Divergent is the book for you.
