It takes place in a futuristic post-apocalyptic Chicago where everyone is divided into five factions: Abnegation (the selfless) Amity (the peaceful) Candor (the honest) Dauntless (the brave) and Erudite (the intelligent). The main character (Tris Prior) was born in Abnegation but struggles with choosing to stay with her family or leave them to find where she belongs. A lot of people say that Divergent is exactly like the Hunger Games but the only thing they have in common is a 16 year old female protagonist and that it's in a dystopian world(less)
