The city is surrounded by a tall, tough built fence and its citizens believe it is to keep whatever is beyond it, out. The city is made up of five factions, Abnegation, Amity, Dauntless, Erudite and Candor. They all work together in harmony, with each faction doing their part to keep the city running like a well oiled machine. The story comes from the point of view of Beatrice Prior, a sixteen year old girl who is known as Divergent, giving the novel its title. The introduction into the story gives a background to Beatrice's family life, in her faction Abnegation. When she and her peers turn 16 it is time to make the decision as to what faction you become a part of for the rest of your life. When Beatrice chooses, it opens her up to many more decisions and lots of courage she finds in herself. In conclusion this book takes you on the adventure of a girl finding herself in a city that is broken and a world that is yet to be discovered.(less)
