asked:
Did anyone else start to lose interest in (an otherwise engaging book) after the 'alternate future' plot device was used? I'm two thirds of the way through now, and I'm finding it quite flat and confusing, and I'm about to abandon it.

Yes I started to lose interest during the second half. I think I would have preferred the author to commit to one ruling and go from there. It felt a little gimmicky. Personally if I think that one or the other story line 'isn't really happening ' then it doesn't pull me in. Having said that, the chapters involving Max falling apart at his mother's house were very affecting.

I quite enjoyed it, was a bit confused after the court case but kept on and got really engrossed. I certainly wasn't expecting the twist at the end - really surprised.

I agree that the second half of the book was less interesting and less developed than the first half.

I basically skimmed the courtroom drama and much of the rest. Thank you for the “alternate plot” idea. That explains my confusion while “reading” the rest of the book. I think it’s worth reading the end.

Don’t abandon it. I felt the same way.
