Did anyone else start to lose interest in (an otherwise engaging book) after the 'alternate future' plot device was used? I'm two thirds of the way through now, and I'm finding it quite flat and confusing, and I'm about to abandon it.

Personally if I think that one or the other story line 'isn't really happening ' then it doesn't pull me in. Having said that, the chapters involving Max falling apart at his mother's house were very affecting. (less)
