No and that goes for any author. I like to hear about what my friends and favourite authors like. Authors will be more critical of other authors work as they'll spot things the average reader won't. We all like different things so might not agree on what someone recommends is good or bad regardless of whether the person is an author or not.
If you don't want to read what anyone recommends you don't have to no one is forcing you to.
You say you want honesty in reviews. Can you guarantee a member of the public won't rate all one authors work 5 stars because it's their favourite author or a friend even or vice versa rate them all low just because they hate the author?

Nope. I love Stephen King's work, and I figure if he's suggesting an author, I'll enjoy their work, too. His recommendations have yet to steer me wrong.
Besides, as cutthroat as the publishing world can be, authors need to build each other up.

I actually love the fact that he does...now that I think about it, most of my books are plugged by him. He leads me in the right direction. I wish I could find a site or page that names all books Stephen King has praised...
Sofi St. John
How dare a talented author talk about books they like and support fellow authors.
Carol
I question the validity of these "plugs." Do those "plugging" get commissions or other financial gain?
Kathryn
As long as they're honest, no.
I will pick up a book because an author I like recommends it, but that alone won't get me past page 50.

No. And extra kudos to SK, who apparently reads as many books as he writes.
Nessie
No! I don't pay any attention to that. That isn't what makes me lay my money down for a book ( and we all know how expensive new hardback releases are becoming) My decision to buy a book and read it is based off of the book. I read the synopsis and if it sounds like something I'd like i get it. Doesn't matter to me who they get to hype it up.
Sue Salmon
100%! I feel like it’s turned into “I’ll rate yours and then you rate mine” kind of thing
Kasia
Not really. Plugs don't influence me to the point that I will read a book just based on the fact that an author I like/love recommends it. I have to like the synopsis, and if I do give it a go, it all depends on the book itself and how captivating it is.
Arimathea
No. I sometimes like to see what King is recommending. Nobody's forcing me to read a book based on what other authors think of that book.
Jen Lyon
Not in the least. Seeing someone who has made it to the top continue to throw down a ladder to others struggling to summit will ALWAYS be something I want to see. In ever facet of life.
And most of King's recommendations are solid. So, nope, it's something I hope to see for a long time to come!

SK's one of my favorite authors. That said, I think writers often have mutual admiration societies wherein they're kind of obligated to plug each other's work. I've felt on multiple occasions that he gives praise a bit too freely. It's always worth noting when your tastes run parallel to someone else's, but when it comes to authors I take most reviews with a grain of salt.
Reviews can be so important though! I find that the more I read, the more I come to rely on reviews over the plot synopsis. Any story can be compelling if it's done right. Will say that Booklist, Rocky Mountain News, Kirkus, and ion9 consistently promote strong fiction in my observation.

No, and I'm sure neither do the authors that he plugs.
Rachel Welch
I figure it’s some vague blurb from those “famous authors,” so I don’t pay attention to them
Susan Dorne
of course not. I love his recommendtions.
Monnie
Nope. Not at all. I trust his judgment and I have enjoyed most of the books he has recommended. Nobody is forcing you to pay attention!
Michael O'Neill
It's a favor they do for each other. You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. Personally, I don't have any problem with it. Authors need all the help they can get, especially competing with TV, online movies, streaming, etc. I don't really pay any attention to the author blurbs anyway.
Rae
I don't really see the problem with that? I would actually love to hear what you mean! Personally, I like seeing what authors I like recommend, it can sometimes point me in the direction of a good book. Other times, it doesn't. Just depends. :)
Dianne Matthews
No. I like to know how other authors feel about a book.
Brandon Tranquilli
YES - I only bought this book because I saw Steven King's name written on the top of the front page . Totally made me think I was reading something worthwhile.
S
All those blurbs are courtesy between writers. They are part of the book promotion process, advertising. I take them with a grain of salt.
Jay
Nope because it helps me find new books to read and more often then not they turn out to be really good
Ashley Day
Only if he is just doing it as a obligation, if he likes the book and author then it is great to hear his views. Word of mouth is one of the biggest sellers for me on books and I need as much information as possible before commiting to a book. None of us can read every book we want to there are simply not enough hours in the day so each book has to be chosen carefully as it means we will be missing other books forever.
Zena Bethune
No, I think it's great that he reads as much as he writes (a lot!!). I miss his column in Entertainment Weekly from years ago. I like many of the books he recommends.
Jennifer
Yes, he is literally on every book jacket of every book I've purchased in the last three months. When I see the same author providing blurbs over and over, it makes me question whether they are really even reading these books. I have a feeling those blurbs don't really mean anything other than that the authors share the same publicist or something.
ArtemisDW
I don't even read that
