asked:
Do I need to read "after you" before I read "still me"? Based on the reviews of "after you" I sort of want to avoid it at all costs.

I really enjoyed After You. I'm not sure why there is so much negativity! I think you need to read it and make your own mind up. It would make the trilogy run more smoothly.
Bernadett
Definitely, you need to read After You. I agree that is not as strong as Me Before You but really entertaining.
Eva
I think "After you" is definetely the weakest of this series, but it is a viable and necessary connection between "Me before You" and "Still Me". Even though you would probably not be lost in the 3rd book without reading the 2nd, you would miss a lot of references and not really have the connection to the 1st. I would still read it.
Myron Brown
I never read either of the previous books and I wasn't lost at all. I was provided enough of the relevant information from both to enjoy the book.
Jennifer Zorko
You need to read the books in order, Me before You, After You, and then Still Me.
One thing I will tell you is to go into After You with an open mind and no expectations. I went in with super high expectations and an idea in my head of where I thought the book should go and was let down.
Going into Still Me with no preconceived notions or thoughts. So far so good.

Yes, I'd recommend you read them in order. I loved Still Me the best

I didn't realize this was part of a series so I read "Still Me" without having read the others and wasn't lost at all. You definitely don't NEED to read the first two books to understand this one, but it probably would provide more context if you do read the others first.
Susanne
When a story is a series you really shouldn’t skip a book. If a reference is made to something that happened in the one you skipped you won’t have a clue what’s going on.
Carla M
After you sucks but to keep track of the story I guess you should... maybe you could read a summary of After you so you don't have to go through it...

I think you would miss too much character development by skipping After You. Sam & Lily are introduced and developed in After You, and not a lot of reintroducing happens in Still Me, it just dives in. I don't think I would've enjoyed Still Me as much had I not had the development of characters that took place in After You. And I really did enjoy it!
Elizabeth
Yes! Read them all.
Krista Esta
Actually no. The book number 2 is not good and actually could be easily skipped. I really liked Still Me though.
Laura
I love After You more than Me Before You. Still Me is definitely richer if you have read both prequels. However, I forget some details from the original two, and Moyes has helpful reminders throughout. Ultimately, I think anyone might still enjoy it on its own!
Michael Grimes
I watched the movie, then picked this one up....so I think no.
Alana
I believe it is better so you truly understand her. I enjoyed both other books and they really are full of just ab out all emotions, do yourself a favour and read them all you won't be sorry
Lydia
I don't think you need to read AFTER YOU, and STILL ME would still make sense and be delightful as a direct follow-up to ME BEFORE YOU. Lou's in NYC in the new book, and the only real direct connection to AFTER YOU is her boyfriend "Ambulance Sam", which is readily understood that they're in a long distance relationship.

I read "Me Before You" quite a while ago and liked it. Then, recently I read "After You" -- and I liked it as well. Perhaps because I had not just finished "Me Before You" I was not comparing them closely? Anyway, I just downloaded "Still Me" and have started to read them. I think it would be a good idea to read them in order...
Megan
I really liked After You. I’m not sure why some people didn’t like it. It’s still Lou and her charming and quirky personality. And of course, it has more funny, absurd situations that only Lou could get herself into (much like myself). I honestly think that Still Me won’t make much sense if you don’t read the second book in the series. It really sets up Lou’s frame of mind and her relationships in the third book. Together, the three paint a nice picture about love, loss, and learning to pick up the pieces and continuing to live after heartbreak or tragedy.

Avoid that book at all costs. It was pretty good up until the end, which made me so mad that I wanted to throw the book away. Just don't read it
Shannon Smith
Yes you need to..

I'm reading "After you" and I love it. I think If Lou had just moved on without mourning Will properly, that would have been awkward, so I think the process that Lou goes through in "After You" to deal with her grief is important too.

I heard awful reviews of "after you" as well, after that amazing movie I was left desperately wanting to know what happened in her life after Will. Personally I think it was easy to grasp what may have happened in "after you" and I dont regret not purchasing it, "still me" was a pleasant read and perhaps I may take a pass at After you and then amend this accordingly, but it wasnt difficult to follow along at all nor did I feel like I was missing any sort of connection to any of the characters

Hi Sarah, you don´t need to read "Me before You".
I also skipped it over
and read "Still me" immediately after " Me before you".
I understood everything and Lusia is in "Still me" great (in NY).

No. Definitely not because the book stands alone just fine. I did not read "After" and had no problem understanding "Still." From others' reviews I may even have enjoyed "Still" more because of it. It would even be an enjoyable book even without reading "before you."
Sakthi Chandrasekaran
Lovely Lou will make you turn pages - do not miss the first two. Jojo at her best.
Kate
No you do not! I haven't read the second book and Still Me is a strong enough story to hold it's own.
Jan
I would read all 3 in a row to get the whole experience, but you can probably get the gist of all by reading a synopsis. The books read fast. For sure Me Before You is the best, partly because it was a new thing. After Me was harder, kind of a letdown. But I am still glad I read it.

I only saw the film of Me Before You and I didn't know After You existed. I picked up Still Me on a quick sprint into the library and was already 2 chapters in before realizing I was on book 3 of a trilogy. I still enjoyed it immensely!
Donna - Rosies.ReadingNook
Yes, if you want to understand what is going on in the 3rd book.

Yes, so you get a good sense of who the characters are.
Rick
absolutely not but it will greatly help you understand all the references that Louisa makes to Will, her parents, her sister, etc.
