I was disappointed how Camille disappeared. The only source of what happened to her is Danny Boy, not a reliable source. I wish what happened to her was clearer. Everyone else is explained even if they aren’t found. I think it would have been better if Rill had overheard a conversation between adults like Mrs. Murphy and one of the other workers.
Aida
At first I thought Judy may be Camellia. However, I couldn't figure how she would have escaped the orphanage or conceived that someone would have adopted her given her strong will, acting out behaviors and overall personality. I was sad to think/believe she had died in the closet as implied when Murphey said to get e rope and hang her in the closet. It was also confusing to me, trying to figure out how Judy was related to Rill, Lark, & Fern, as Judy never had any contact with the other children. How could Judy know of Queenie or the dad if she was taken from the hospital at birth?
Angela
I had similar hopes! But I think it speaks to the real-life horrors of that system that Camille's story turned out the way it did.

I thought it was really obvious from the beginning because we open to a mother having a still born and them talking about how she couldn't try again and then the staff told them that he has a solution. From then I knew that they were going to be given an infant to raise as the child that was lost. When the Foss children were informed that their twin siblings didn't survive birth, it became clear that they were going to be a part of that exchange. The only part that threw me off was that Judy knew who Queenie was, but she was obviously doing her research and teaching out, so that makes sense.

It was not very clear, but I believe Judy was the twin girl that was supposedly still born in the hospital. Avery also found a document of the baby boy Foss, however they wondered if it was fake and that he had survived as well.
Patt
I thought so until they revealed her to be blonde with blue eyes.
Patricia (Irishcharmer) Yarian
MY thoughts at first were she was related to Trent as it was said she was a twin-remember Stevie had a sister! Now a sequel will need to be written
Debbie
No, because Grandma Judy had blond curly hair and Camille was the child with dark hair.

Hi! I know the answer, can I tell or will I spoil it for other people? I loved this book, so interesting!

Judy's identity was very clearly stated in the book if you read it to the ending.
Kathryn Henry
I just finished the audiobook and am confused as to how Silas came to be at the home attempting to "rescue" Rill and her sister. I also found it odd that if he knew where they were he wouldn't have told Briny and Queenie (Queenie may have been dead by then), but he doesn't tell Rill anything about her parents nor does he tell them about finding her. How did he find her? Why didn't he tell her anything about her parents? This scene seemed so out of place in the story and oddly vague.
Janes Jones
They were reunited through Travis Sr. Yeah but I had to come on this website to get the answer to how Judy was connected.
Allie Boniface
Yes - and that whole part of the storyline fell flat for me. I don't like being deliberately misled by an author, but that's what she did both when we're told both twins die in the beginning of the book and then when there were no details about how May and Judy reunited as adults. Story structure-wise, that's a big flaw of the book.

Grandma Judy is identified on the last 2 pages of Chapter 23 in the hard covered edition.
Jules The Book Junkie Reviews
No, Camellia had brown hair and eyes, and Judy and her offspring had blond hair like Queenie.
At first I thought she might be Fern.

I agree that Judy was the twin girl that was supposedly lost. Since May (Rill) never met her, I was surprised that they had a connection when they were reunited. I also wondered why they didn't find Gabion and Judy's twin brother. I think that Camellia was killed at the "Home."
Kelly Preston
I just finished this amazing book but this is the one question I'm pondering...who exactly is Judy? I've been thumbing through pages thinking I recalled someone calling Camellia "Judy" but I can't find it. I'd love to get this answered.

Yes! I so wished her to be Camille. I wanted to know what happened to Silas as well and hoped he would turn up again.

Who did Mae marry?
Paula Hagar
No because Camille had dark hair and early on it was said that Judy had the blonde curls. I suspected it had to be one of the twins.

Did I miss something? Wasn't it revealed that Judy's twin was born and then forgotten when they say they never found out anything about the twin brother? Didn't Avery ever share the information with Grandma Judy? I'm really confused

I had a feeling she was one of the older girls right from the beginnin because of the dragonfly bracelet.

i did hope it was Camille. :( It is just a sad story!

In my ideal twist- I imagine camellia being Bitsy. Maybe there was a reason things didn't work out with Elliot.
Alison Giese
Yes, I thought that, too, but only briefly because she had the same blonde curly hair in the photo, and Camellia had straight brown hair.
Janet
Yes! I was thinking the same thing up until we find out otherwise. I wish we had a definitive on what happened to Camille.

Was Judy Camille?

Excellent book! But I listened by audio and fell asleep during last two chapters so it automatically went back to library. When Rill & Fern go back to be with there parents, do they find there father? I know there mother had died recently. Is there anything else big that I missed? Also, does Stevie/Trent ever find his adopted twin sister again?
Kelly Lemker
Yes I totally thought that! Was hoping.

Judy was Rill who was Avery grandmother.
Alison King
I kept wondering which of the sisters she would be. I didn't think she would be Camellia though, because Avery and all of her sisters have golden curls and Camellia had dark hair. Also, once the whole scene happened with Danny Boy saying Camellia was dead it seemed even less likely.
Emily Murphy
Yes. I thought that also.

Thank you all for confirming who Judy really was. I started the book a while back, then got busy. Loved the book, but I agree...it could have been clearer. I went back to search...wanted to see if I understood it correctly- I guess I did!!
