A Thread of Grace
by
"Beautiful, probing historical fiction (northern Italy, WW2) that deeply explores goodness, evil, and the possibility of redemption."

The Sparrow (The Sparrow, #1)
by
"This book is FABULOUS, but also needs a warning -- it raises intensely painful theological questions about the sense of abandonment by God. Also describes sexual violence. Russell does an excellent job with these themes, and I couldn't recommend it more highly, but think carefully about when you read it, and maybe read with a friend for possible debriefing. "

Peace Like a River

"I love great fiction that explores characters of faith with nuance and depth, taking that faith seriously. This is an excellent and beautiful example."

Jack (Gilead, #4)
by
"More exploration of the same story from a different perspective, and this one is really gives your empathy muscles a workout -- I think it will stoke your imagination about what might be behind the problematic behavior of difficult people in your own life, and the ways they may have goodness in them mostly hidden from our view and our ability to appreciate.
