Who was it took Augustine to task for the "fall" of Rome to the Vandals, circa 405 A.S. leading him to write The City of God in reply ?
Hmm. Was there one person in particular to whom he responded? I know that many, particularly non-Christians, saw Christianity as responsible for the Vandal sack of Rome ... and even to St. Jerome the fall of the Eternal City was tantamount to the collapse of the entire world. Also, in the intro to The City of God, Augustine mentions that the work is partly written in response to a suggestion by his friend Marcellinus. Other than that, though ... I confess I am drawing a blank!
The Art of War was NOT from the 5th century AD it was from the 6th Century 'BC', it needs to be removed from this list.
I love this series of lists by the century. Perhaps there should be a list for books before the 4th century?
According to the original dates of publication on Goodreads (350 and 400 C.E.), the works by Kālidāsa — Shakuntala (#7), The Meghadūta of Kālidāsa (#27), Kumarasambhava of Kalidasa (#28) and Raghuvamsam: The Line of Raghu (#30) — should be removed from this list as they belong on the 4th century list instead.

St Jerome Vulgate finished circa 405 A.D.
Ulfilas(Wulfilas)--his mission to the Goths, 4th century, fragments of his translation, 6th century---SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE ?--Gothic Bible significant given major differences between Gothic and other prevailing Christianities of the time (See Bart Ehrmann, e.g., Lost Christianities).
