Thank you NetGalley and Orbit books for a copy of The Ten Thousand doors of January. I heard good things about this book, so I was so happy I was accepted for a copy.

There’s really only one thing a person can do when they’re hip-deep in a mystery novel: keep reading.
This is a lovely quest story, a gentle and magical love story, but it’s not really the groundbreaking original fantasy novel that some reviews claim, and I wonder if those rave reviews are doing this book a disservice.

This book would have been more enjoyable if the author had employed a thesaurus. Why did every child and even plants need to be described as feral? It was repeated so often and irritated me so much that it took me out of the story.
