Isaac Asimov is well known as a science fiction writer and this book is supposed to be a science fiction/detective story "fusion" book. Apparently Asimov wanted to demonstrate that science fiction could meld with other genres (according to the book cover).

The detective partners in the story are a New York detective named Elijah Baley and a very human-looking robot, called R. Daneel Olivaw. But the "detection" seems to consist of the cop just accusing one person after another - he doesn't even q ...more

I finally get the love a lot of people have for Asimov and the Robot and Foundation series. Previously I've thought he had some interesting ideas, but didn't think so much of the story- or character-development. This one, however, I really liked and found impressive.

I thought this was interesting, but I didn't think it was as good as many of his other books. I might try the second in the series to see if it's any better....
