K-9 from the first Doctor Who series, Tom Baker as the Doctor...I think Cybermen are cool too, as are the Dlaeks, but they are more like cyborgs
Classics: Robbie the Robot from Forbidden Planet, The Robot on Lost in Space, Gort from The day the Earth Stood StillModern: Terminators, Sentinels from The Matrix, Chappie, I Robot
Good choices so far. I'll add:Hector from "Saturn 3" (1980) with Kirk Douglas, Farah Fawcett, & Harvey Keitel was pretty awesome.

Huey, Dewey, & Louie from "Silent Running" (1970) starring Bruce Dern. They're the fathers of R2D2.
how about the Sentinals from the X-Men
Anyone ever seen the show they used to have over in the UK called Robot Wars? Loved that show!!

Have you seen the new robot fight coming up next year?

How about Tabor from the old 1954 movie. From literature my most memorable robot was The Killer Thing from the book of the same name by Kate Wilhelm.
Tobor reminds me of Marvin the Paranoid Android from the Hitchhikers Guide BBC (British) TV show :-)
Amelia wrote: "Anyone ever seen the show they used to have over in the UK called Robot Wars? Loved that show!!"I remember Robot Wars, but I think the one I saw was the US version.
Wished the robots were more like walking tanks though.

I personally have no favorites but occasionally (but rarely) I will quote the robot from Lost in Space "Danger Will Robinson". For some reason I thought that was so cool back in the day. Nowadays, my son just thinks I'm mentally challenged
Maximillian, of course:

Oh dear...Best Robot Death Scene of All Time - The Black Hole (1979)

Still can't believe that was a Disney movie...and, I could have swore there was blood when Maximillian kills (view spoiler). :/

Why has no one said R2D2? He's completely awesome! C3p0 is an annoying nightmare most of the time, but R2, now who wouldn't want that little buddy around, and with all those handy extendable gadgets?
Admittedly, he isn't scary. But, he rocks.

The Black Hole? You just made my day. That movie blew my mind back in the 70s.
Phil, Maximillian made a rather strong impression on my 8 year old self...
Amelia wrote: "Why has no one said R2D2? He's completely awesome! C3p0 is an annoying nightmare most of the time, but R2, now who wouldn't want that little buddy around, and with all those handy extendable gadget..."r2d2 is cool, but a little too cute to be the coolest.
You wouldn't say that if he saved your butt when you're x-wing was messed up...Or, when your hyperdrive was down...or your shield generators. I could go on. But, since he's not real, I won't.
Amelia wrote: "You wouldn't say that if he saved your butt when you're x-wing was messed up...Or, when your hyperdrive was down...or your shield generators. I could go on. But, since he's not real, I won't."lol... Well since you put it that way, he is pretty handy to have around.
Gort and the Terminator were cool, but I wouldn't ever want a functional one in my house. In terms of actually being useful in real life, I think Rosie from the Jetsons tops my list.
The robots in "Vengeance Is Mine", a short story by Lester Del Ray.Humans are wiped out, but a single experimental AI robot on the moon survives and manages to fly back to Earth and develops a galaxy spanning robot civilisation.
Gods and Golems
Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, coolest and funniest robot ever. From the books for course - not the movie!
Martin wrote: "The robots in Ex Machina!"Totally!
The AI was spectacular in manipulating Caleb!
I've always been a big Data from Next Generation fan, also Bender from Futurama!
Kevin wrote: "Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, coolest and funniest robot ever. From the books for course - not the movie!"I love Marvin too, and I've only seen the movie. If he's even better in the book, I'll have to get it ASAP.

The coolest robot today is Curiosity. My son sent me a couple of links to an interactive panorama of Mars taken by the Curiosity rover & stitched together. It's incredible. I'm looking at another world!!!Day: https://www.360cities.net/image/mars-...
