(Na lezing heb ik het origineel ernaast gehouden en het viel me op dat de vertaling aan het eind wat slordig werd: een aantal zinnen is weggelaten.)

– O, zei ik, ik ben bang...
Maar hij antwoordde me:
– Nu moet je weer aan het werk. Je moet terug naar je machine. Ik wacht hier. Kom morgenavond terug...
Maar gerust was ik niet. Ik dacht aan de vos. Het kan wel eens op tranen uitlopen als men tam is gemaakt. (p. 80-81)
