Shelves: fantasy, dragons-spotted-in-the-wild

I was never one for the ancient gods and their stories and so, despite all the rave reviews, I've avoided this one for a time but curiosity got the better of me. I chose audiobook because that it the medium I'd go for for difficult reads because I can either speed it up or 'listen' (or rather not quite listen) to it while I cook or do my chores. This was a pretty good novel. I liked the retelling of mythology from Circe’s perspective. It was interesting to see how she viewed other Gods, Goddess, and Titans, how she fit into the narrative, and how she ended up on her island. I wavered between three stars and four stars because some parts were really slow and rather boring. I understand that SHE was in exile, but that doesn’t mean the reader should be stuck as well. I love it. it has been a long time since I read most of this mythology, but I had forgotten some of the connections between Circe, Minos, Daedalus and Scylla. I did remember the bits about Odysseus and his men being turned into pigs. Great retelling of the story!

I haven’t read Greek mythology in years, so this was a trip down memory lane with at of the tales I loved told or alluded to through Circe’s view. She is turned from the temptress witch in the old tales into a strong yet pitiable character.
