This is a tough one for me to review.

Let's begin with this: I loved Carling and Rune. I loved everything about them. I loved watching these dominant personalities come together without one of them becoming something less. I loved their banter, I loved the way they were old and set in their ways, but found something worth changing for and refused to give up.

So Rune and Carling get 5 glorious stars.

But I require some story with my romance, and I had some quibbles with this story.

This was another great installment in the Elder Races seriesand has made me an even bigger fan of Thea Harrison.

Rune is Griffin and a member of the Wyr, he owes Carling, an Elder councillor and one of the oldest Vampires around, a favour but what he doesn't know is that she is dying like so many old vampires before. She is fading and when Rune sees her again he knows he will do anything to help save her.

I gave this book 4*s because it was well-written, but it was still disappointing to me. I loved Rune and as Dragos's First he would have been a great action hero. But this wasn't that kind of story. It was a character-driven story, and I really couldn't get into Carling's character. (view spoiler)

Not my favourite in the series, I think because the majority of the book is all Rune & Carling and only Rune and Carling. I enjoyed it at the end when Rune and Carling where interacting with other characters. I liked the twists to the myth of how vampires came about, it was an interesting take.
