Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments Hey team members.

I don't want to be team leader. Just saying that off the bat. I'm happy to be a follower.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments LOL Mary! HI!!!! *waves from Team 3* Glad you got in on this one.

message 7: by Amanda (new)

Amanda D. (tinyminx) Wow, Mary, way to call "Not it!" on that one. : )

This is my first time playing Book Shelf Bingo, so I may not be the best candidate for our fearless leader.

A book away from an episode of hoarders (fidgit77) | 740 comments Hi everybody. Does anyone have any ideas for team names yet?

I was thinking about the monster theme mixed with song titles for team names myself like, Shifters in the Night or Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun or Gypsies, Vamps and Thieves. Something like that.

I played bingo (we were the G.L.O.B., gorgeous ladies of bingo) in round one so if this is everyone's first time playing I will volunteer to be team captain. However, if someone else wants it, I won't mind.

message 10: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments I like Gypsies, Vamps and Thieves personally. But you must be punished for getting that song stuck in my head. "gypsies, tramps and thieves".

I'm also great with Cristina as team leader.

message 11: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments And Yay! Game Board! I am super slow at work and alone in the office today. I can make myself a list. I don't want to grab a book for another challenge and find out it's the only book I own for one of the shelves.

And thanks for volunteering, Cristina!

Just came to check on things and was surprised everything was arranged for bingo. Maybe we will start early.

Thanks for stepping up Cristina! Should be a fun round.

A book away from an episode of hoarders (fidgit77) | 740 comments We have 2 votes for Gypsies, Vamps and Thieves, 1 vote for Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun and one vote for either/or.

I think we should let KarenF weigh in before we make our final decision on team name.

Unless anyone else has any other ideas?

I think its cute but I just didn't want it stuck in my head for 2-3 months. ;-D

message 20: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments Oh different shelves. The Post-Apocolyptic one worries me. I don't really care for those kind of books. I hope I don't have to read a book that I really, really don't want to read for this. Let me go look at the lists.

I should have something for all the others.

message 21: by Mary C (last edited Jul 13, 2011 08:13AM) (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments Well that post apocolyptic shelf is really short. But I see the In Death books by JD Robb are shelved that way by someone. I can get one of those from the library if it's called.

scratch that-I spelled apocalyptic wrong. Off to check again.

Maybe we can find you a PA book that is more to your liking. Not so doom and gloom

message 23: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments I found a couple that I actually own on that list that I didn't think of as post-apocalyptic. But someone shelved them that way so I'll use on of those if it's called.

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments It's funny but I'll head out on a road trip with hardly any preperation. But a reading challenge sends me into a panic of list making.

LOL, Mary! Your comment made me laugh. :)

I've been lurking the groups just to see how it's done but as I know a few people here, I figured I could stop by and say hello. :p

message 27: by Amanda (new)

Amanda D. (tinyminx) Hey, D.G.!

And for post-apoc, might I suggest Feed? Seriously, I want everyone & their mother to read this book.

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments Hey, I'm a little late to the party. I'm super busy at work over the next couple of weeks so I may be a little scarce for any conversations but the project ends on the 25th so I'm good for when we actually begin reading. Hello everyone!

Oh, and I love Gypsies, Vamps & Thieves. I actually have that song on my i-pod and I blast it in the car. I love cheesy early Cher! Sorry to get it stuck in everyone's head who doesn't want it.

Glad to hear from you! We can sabotage the competition's sanity with an earworm. lol

I do love that song though.

message 30: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments I have it on my IPOD too, I love Cher.

A book away from an episode of hoarders (fidgit77) | 740 comments Ok then, our team name will be Gypsies, Vamps and Thieves. (Unless we change our minds in the next 10 days or so)

I've printed out our bingo card and I'm nearly done making a list of 10-20 books for each possible shelf that I might be inclined to read.

Anyone else excited yet?

message 32: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments Cristina, I'm doing the same thing.

A book away from an episode of hoarders (fidgit77) | 740 comments Carlyn wrote: "Are we planning on getting the free read out of the way early on?"

I like to go ahead and do it in the first week but I understand it's not always possible for everyone. :)

Every square is one step closer to a bingo.

message 35: by Amanda (new)

Amanda D. (tinyminx) I, too, have made a list of potential books to read for each category. So anxious!!

message 36: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments I did the free read book the first week last time and will try to do that as well. To me it just makes sense to get that one done quickly since we don't have to wait for a catagory.

message 37: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments I'm going to get it out of the way in week 1 too. It means I don't have to worry about it :) Is free read any book of your choosing?

message 38: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 23519 comments Carly, Free Space Rules, copied from the thread:

To get free space credit, each team must pick a book from one of these three options:

(1) An SOS' Book of the Month: Any month while the game is in play

OR

(2) A book off of any of the group's new release threads: Any month while the game is in play

OR

(3) A book off of the group's bookshelf (any shelf/tag)

message 39: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments Thanks Sandra :)

message 40: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments I was bored at work today and I made a bigger game board. I wrote in each block the books I have that fit. I'm doing an erotica challenge that starts tomorrow and am hoping to find erotica/hot romance for most of the shelves. They're worth the most pts.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments That shouldn't be too hard for most of the shelves Mary. Although, the Male Authors shelf is the one I seem to have the least number of books available. Lots of mystery/thriller books, not a lot else!

A book away from an episode of hoarders (fidgit77) | 740 comments Cindy (eclecticfirefly) wrote: "That shouldn't be too hard for most of the shelves Mary. Although, the Male Authors shelf is the one I seem to have the least number of books available. Lots of mystery/thriller books, not a lot ..."

While not erotica or even kinda smutty, I really enjoy Neil Gaiman's books and most of his works are on that shelf. He writes mostly modern fantasy. Just a thought...

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I have several here to choose from. I'm not worried! Depending on when in the game it's called, I may read The Gargoyle. I've had a copy for a couple of years, but never read it yet!

message 44: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments I get pts for non-erotica too-it's just that erotica books are worth the most, followed by hot romance and then other genres and the little series romances worth the least. It's an erotica themed challenge. But there's also a prize for most books read and most pages.

If the male author shelf gets called then I'll probably read a Jim Butcher, Alexander McCall Smith, Mike Carey or Neil Gaiman-depending on my mood. I have one from all of them. Plus a few other male authors on the list. I don't happen to have any erotica written by a man. But that's OK.

message 45: by Amanda (new)

Amanda D. (tinyminx) For a male author, might I suggest Hounded, The Name of the Wind, or anything by Jasper Fforde...though I haven't seen many male authors dabble in erotica.

message 46: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments Amanda wrote: "For a male author, might I suggest Hounded, The Name of the Wind, or anything by Jasper Fforde...though I haven't seen many male authors dabble in erotica."

Ooh, I just started Hounded this morning and I'm loving it. I had to force myself to put it down so I could get errands done early and get back to it later. Of course, now I must get off Goodreads to accomplish that....

message 47: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2428 comments I have the Eyre Affair but I wanted to read it this week. I offered it in a virtual box on paperbackswap. I was going to start it tonight so I have it read befor the box starts.

(a virtual box in a ongoing book trading group, usually with a theme, in the PBS games forum)
