In Spiders Bite we met Gin Blanco, cook by day and assassin by night. Over the past six books I have got to know Gin, I've cried with her, laughed with her, cheered as she defeated the bad guys, comiserated with her as she got her heart broke and finally fell in love as she did with Owen Grayson. In By a Thread Gin confronted her past in the form of Donovan Caine her ex-boyfriend, now in Widow's Web it's Owen's turn to confront his past.

Well, I couldn't help but be disappointed in this one. It feels, to me, like the author isn't sure what to do now that she offed the nemesis, and so we end up just spinning our wheels on character development.

What I liked:

A villain that was just flat-out nuts. That was a fun change of pace. Some people have terrible things happen to them, and they just crack. From what we heard about her past, Salina was never really a good egg to begin with, but I liked that you had sympathy for where ...more

I feel that I was thrust into an alternative reality of the last book. I think it's strange how the series is still going. Thank the gods that the repetition has stopped and there aren't as many visits to Jojo Devaroe. A few books back it seemed that she lived at the healer's house.
Donivan wasn't in this book, but a twisted homicidal wench that has daddy issues has taken his place. Whew that's a loaded statement if I haven't written one before. Anyhow I was absolutely convinced that Owen was go ...more
