What Members Thought
I have mixed emotions about this book. The plot was surprising and different which was good, but reading it was difficult. The Hunger Games are barbaric and cruel. I was hoping the story was going to be Katniss bringing an end to them somehow, but that was not the case. If I had known more about the story before I probably would not have read it, but now that I have, I am intrigued. I do hope that the Capitol will be challenged in future books. Surely this torturous behavior will not continue u

Grudgingly giving this one more star because I don't hate it quite as much as I did the first time round. Still a pretty bad book. Also Katniss is the worst, still.

First review, November 2010:
What is the point in this book?
Seriously. This book is completely pointless. It's garbage. I have no idea who on earth it's aimed at. Teenagers in the age range should surely be reading 1984 or Brave New World if they're wanting to start off with some dystopian literature? I'm not even fond of Brave New ...more

This time last week I had not heard of the Hunger Games trilogy. I stumbled into smiths to seek out the top ten reads and was drawn instantly to this trilogy.
Hunger Games is set in the future where North America has been turned into a country called Panem, separated into 12 districts and the Capitol.
Every year each District must send one boy and one girl to the Capitol to take part in these Games where they must fight each other to their deaths.

Ok. Ok. NOW I understand why everyone goes ape-shit over The Hunger Games! This book was amazing. The world was so well constructed, as were the characters. Wow, just WOW! And talk about bad ass. Katniss Everdeen is my new heroine. Not only can she shoot that bow like a major pro, oh no. Collins made her so incredibly intelligent that I want to go out and read books on herbs and berries just in case I ever get thrown into the woods for some reason.
And although Katniss is the queen of keeping he ...more

Well, what a book! Once I got absorbed in the story it was hard to put down, which was just as well considering I have been reading it whilst off sick. Fantastic story with such a colourful (and brutal!)storyline - the characters are so believable and I really felt for Katniss even before the reaping. Looking forward to reading the other books as soon as possible and i think it will be interesting to see how the film turns out...
WoW!!! I had heard a lot of great reviews about this book, but never took the time to read it myself. And boy, was I ever a fool...... This book is ahhhh-mazing!!! And I think I will die if I don't get the sequel, like, RIGHT NOW!!! <3

Great Book. I don't want to spoil it for anyone...but the story is about a 24 man/woman fight to the death.
You follow a young competitor Katnsis.
Its one of those books you just can't put down. ...more
