Suggestions for June and July's Group Reads

Okay, so after having a word with the fellow moderators we have decided that we are going to take suggestions for June and July's group reads at the same time because then you'll have more time to get the books.

So please add your suggestions here. All books will be considered but if possible can you link us to the book on Goodreads using the 'add book/author' link so we can read the synopsis.

but since that's the final book in a trilogy I'm going to suggest this one: which is book one.

It's average, there are better dystopians out there. Which leads me to suggest a book: I absolutely love this one and book three is coming out soon.

Yes it is. The second one is better though, that one's more dystopian. You should read them. =)

I went book shopping today and got a couple of awesome sounding books so I thought I'd add them to the list:

A Job from Hell is Kindle only? It's not available in my country. Nor are some of the other books mentioned. :(

I'm not willing to order from Amazon as shipping on overseas orders is almost the same price as the book!

Hmmm, are there any books that are available in your country that we haven't mentioned. I am willing to buy books as Amazon has fre P&P in Wales. =)

If you are interested in some of the books, add them when they come out in your country and we'll re-poll them =)

Rea, have you tried Smashwords (smashwords.com)? You'll find most books are also available there, sometimes at cheaper prices than on Amazon because you don't pay tax, and they're available in any country of the world. There's also lots of free stuff :)

I'll investigate smashwords when I can. It looks like I can download a PDF of it to read on my PC - I don't have an e-reader as there aren't many digital books available here, and even fewer in France.

I suspect the site will not accept my card, though. Amazon and such don't as Dutch debit cards are different to other European ones and I don't have a credit card.

If I go into Amsterdam I'll check at the Waterstones and the ABC if they have options for me to get hold of books like this that are not available on their general sites. With all this new Kindle publishing it can be tricky to get hold of them outside of the US and the UK. Makes it almost tempting to go back to the UK!

In case you're interested, when I made my list we had 38 voters. Of those 38, 23 have never bothered to comment in the group. That's significantly more than half the voters.

It was from the vote for the June read. For VA / Numbers / BB / TIK, etc. I've even got a list of who voted for what but hasn't commented, if you're interested.

Last month's winner won by a landslide but no one's bothered to comment about the book.

That's ridiculous TBH. I mean, I didn't want to read Life As We Knew It and loads of people did and no one's bothered. I know for a fact the same's going to happen with The Iron King next month as well. =/

People do it in all groups, but it's still frustrating when those that do comment end up reading a book they don't really want to be reading.

Don't try to be a big book group. Just try to be a group of friends who read one or two books a month and discuss them. If it goes well, more people may join in over time.

Only problem with that is you need to filter out the unwanted votes each month.

I make a lot of lists about my books. And if I get bored but don't feel like reading / writing / anything in particular then I just remake my list! Woo!
