Something is out there . . .
Something terrifying that must not be seen. One glimpse and a person is driven to deadly violence. No one knows what it is or where it came from.....
I Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was one of the best psychologically horror books I've read in a long time. It has some small flaws but overall, it is really well written. ...more

Somewhere between 4 & 5 stars. And no, I haven’t seen the film version yet.

I have a love hate relationship with this book. It is super easy to read. The action is amazing and holds you in its clutches. However, I find the end to be be too open ended, too unsatisfying. You never find out about the aliens, what they really are, how did they get there, how do you get rid of them? Granted this will make for an awesome movie that has many possible sequels.. I may need to walk away and think about it some more.. Right now I am torn what my review is

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this read! I watched the movie when it first came out on Netflix, so I was already familiar with the story. I thought this would make the read feel rote and unsurprising. But instead, I was sucked in and engaged, despite knowing where they were going on the river and what would happen when they got there.
I think Malerman does a great job weaving the story together, jumping back and forth in time between the present and the time before the children were born. ...more

My first Audible book! I wasn't sure I liked the reader at first, but ended up really enjoying it. The book was very suspenseful and the details enabled me to envision the text. I loved the structure of the text- switching between the past and present and often entwining the two.

Put this one in the books not to read if you want to sleep category. Because it is both suspenseful and you won't want to stop reading it. The best aspect about this book is it is entirely up to your imagination how you perceive the danger and monsters of the book world...

Quick read with a fast moving plot, but just felt like it wasn't "finished" when I got to the end.
