I think Patti did.

88432 Hi all, we are still going strong! I did some maintenance on the spreadsheet this morning so don't panic the next time you look at it. I moved the books we have read up the spreadsheet and then hid the rows. So it will make it easier to enter new books and find the ones you have entered.

Happy Reading!

88432 You guys rock! So far, 5 days into this challenge we have read 18 books and completed 26 cards (several Draw 2s) We have to complete 105 cards for the month so we are in great shape. I appreciate everyone populating the spreadsheet. I think it is great that we all have read books so far this month.

Happily, we have our color books all planned out, with several backups if we don't read the ones we promised. The only one we don't have is a Wild Draw 4. I used a blue card for the other Wild Draw 4 so this one will need to be another color (it has to match the number for the color, too.)

So far the book I have liked the best this month is The Fury which is a twisty thriller with people on a private Greek Island. Today, I finished Before We Say Goodbye, by Toshikazu Kawaguchi, which is the 4th book in a series about a Japanese cafe where people can go back in the past to talk to someone in their past. They are lovely books and are short so I read one every year for UNO. I wanted to share that UNO started poorly for me because I was going to read the Ngh Vo books which I thought were over 100 pages but early Thursday I discovered that they were shorter in the versions I had.

Here is the master spreadsheet where I am entering our books for the cards. It might be interesting to see how it all fits together.

I would love to hear about any good books anyone else has read. Happy reading and keep up the good work!

88432 FYI-I just moved The Exception to the Rule on the Tracking spreadsheet to meet our yellow skip card.

Would this work for yellow or do you think it's more orange?"

The captains just said The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston works for yellow and looking at yours and it I think they are the same color so I say yes for yellow.

Just checking Raquel- did you read Archer's Voice after UNO started? It's not marked read on the tracking sheet but I noticed it was read on your uno shelf. Could you update the tracking sheet if you read it?

88432 Don't worry about this. A once a year game doesn't stick with us that well. And if you do other challenges, they probably get confused in the rules. I moved your book out of the color and changed some of your cards. You should be good for now.

One other reminder: locations have to be specific to be used for a card. A country or state is not specific enough. So New York City works but not England. And most of the action needs to occur in one place to use that place for the card.

The color books need to be a match to the color and the card number associated with them. So for the yellow skip, that number is the skip card, which can be matched with a character or author name the begins with the letter p or k. Sorry, but your book doesn't look like it will work for that card.

88432 We are off to a great start team!

I have a question for Raquel- how does Just Last Night qualify for a skip card?
Jan 31, 2024 06:01PM

88432 I have bad news for Raquel and Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll . Someone asked in the Captains thread if it could be used for yellow and the decision was no, it is not yellow enough. If you still plan to read it, could you move it down to the lower part of the spreadsheet?

Wow that's a lot to get done in a week! I'll lower my expectations after next week. I can't think of a short house cover book. I thought of The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros but that is the opposite of fancy. I read a 280 page book a couple years ago with a nice house on the cover but you probably want something shorter than that.

Just a reminder that books only count that are started after UNO starts. Tiffany I notice one of your books on the spreadsheet is listed a currently reading. I wondered if that is in error.

88432 Just a little over 2 days before Uno starts! Here's the countdown.

88432 Hi team! We are less than a week away from UNO and I am excited! I just finished a great thriller Look Closer by David Ellis that I didn't want to hold until UNO because it was 500 pages but I got it done in 3 days. Just couldn't put it down. So good and twisty.

Anyone know what book they will be starting Feb. 1? I will either start with A Winter in New York by Josie Silver to meet a color requirement or The Empress of Salt and Fortune (The Singing Hills Cycle, #1) by Nghi Vo because it is short.

I would love to hear from everyone this last weekend before February. How's your weekend looking? Read any good books lately?

When the challenge starts, please plan on checking in at least once a week. If anyone has any questions or comments please post anytime.

Tineye only needs to be used as a guide. I would say use the background colors, too. If the lighter shades are another color it wouldn't work (pink isn't red.) But If you post the cover in this thread, we can let you know what we think. If it is unclear, we will take it to the Captains and Mods to weigh in. It is more of a subjective decision.

2 Wild Draw 4, which is a repeat of a color card that we have already used. I have a green skip that I will probably read sometime next month but I would like the remaining teammates to match a color card if they would like.

Thanks for putting books in the spreadsheet. It doesn't need to be only color cards. You are welcome to use it for regular books that you are expecting to read. And will need to be used for all books once they start to be read.

88432 Hi Team!

Hope you all have had a good week and enjoying a restful weekend. The temperature is in the single digits here in Ohio so I think my daughter (who is home visiting from college) and I are going to do a PJ day and stay in all day in our pjs. We used to do this when she was little and it seems appropriate to revisit it this weekend.

We are 12 days away from UNO starting so I hope you have had some thoughts about your books. I am a planner and have made a list of books I might read for the challenge. I understand not everyone thinks that way.

Uno is so fun because you can read anything you want and it will probably match one of the cards we are dealt, But it is important to identify books that we all are planning to read to meet the color cards because those are more difficult to fall into. So far only Patty and I have selected some. I hope that this weekend will bring you some time to consider what books you might read to reach our color goals.

This is where we are right now.

88432 I just finished Shards of Honour (Vorkosigan Saga, #1) by Lois McMaster Bujold which has an Emperor character (Emperor Vorbarra.) I put it in the spreadsheet. The book also works for 2 characters falling in love and a first kiss but I thought the emperor might be more difficult to find.

88432 Welcome Raquel!

My hope for the spreadsheet is that people will put in what they are planning to read and then marking when they have finished a book. If you look above at message 17 you will find the link to the spreadsheet. Let me know if you have a problem getting in. It looks like I have to grant access to the team so just message me when you need your initial access.
