88432 One point about the Part 2 of the Mini Challenge. Ingredients need to be proper names- author, title, cover color, series, name in story or location in story. Items cannot be used in the drink names like gown or murder.

88432 Nicole- can you check your read books against your UNO shelf and the tracking spreadsheet? In the Weeds doesn't appear on your Uno shelf and 2 of the books on your UNO shelf don't appear on the spreadsheet. That is not that important right now since we have read most of the books we need but going forward it would help if you posted the books as you read them. Thanks.

I really liked it but I have a time travel obsession so might bias my thinking.

88432 Now that we are winding down March, they have released the April cards. Every month we have another hand to finish. And this month there is a twist. Usually we have Draw 4s which are restricted to color cards that match color card numbers we need to read. This month we have cards called Overloads which have to be one of the following colors and the numbers don't matter:
- purple
- pink
- orange
- brown
- grey
- white
- black

However we can only use 1 book per color.

Here is the breakdown for our color requirements so you can start to think about what books you are going to read.
1 yellow
4 yellow
7 yellow
skip yellow
1 blue
2 blue
3 blue
4 blue
8 blue
9 blue
skip blue
0 green
2 green
6 green
9 green
skip green
1 red
2 red
4 red
5 red (2)
skip red
overload 5

We will be updating the spreadsheet in the next few days but you can start to think about next month now if you like.

88432 We are doing great on Uno this round. We only have a reverse to read for regular UNO along with 3 color cards people have committed to read. But if you are concerned you won't get to it, now would be a good time to let the team know.

Juhi- Seven Year Slip for yellow 5
Patti- The Bodyguard for yellow skip
Raquel - When the Forest Meets the Stars for 7 blue

For the mini challenge, the white cover is the only prompt we haven't had anyone commit to reading. So go for it Tiffany! And if anyone else wants to make up the names for the drinks, let me know. Mine are kind of lame but the point is to fill in all the rows of the challenge with books.

88432 I am also thinking of James Bond's Sexy Silver. That uses 3 of our books. And the drinks don't have to be real drinks (in fact I don't think they are supposed to be.) And also, don't feel you need to pick just one category for a book. I really depends on what other books people are reading.

Yes, that is how it works.

88432 Yes, that would work.

88432 Hi all,

We are doing great on the challenge but I have to say our team is the quietest team I have been on. I guess heads down and reading. I would love to hear how you all are doing.

Now for the fun stuff- I think this Mini Challenge comes off as more challenging than it has to be. For part one, the books that relate to the cocktail have a broad latitude of what can be used. Please consider what your book could be used for in part 1 and ask here if you need help. For example, the book for President Snow White's Negroni could be a book with a President, something to do with government, someone with the name of Snow or White, a snowy time or mention of snow. It can be one word in the book. I would like us to do our best to get Part 1 done before tackling part 2.

Part 2 is the tricky part. The task is to come up with names for a cocktail. Each name needs to come from at least 2 books. If you think of our name, Queen could be an author name in 1 book, Raven could be a character's name in another book and kir Royale would be mentioned as a drink, in a third book. So when you list books for Part 2, please list possible combinations off to the side that would make a clever name combined with another book or books. So far, we have Silver.

Let me know if you have any questions.

88432 There is a tracking tab for the Mini Challenge on our planning spreadsheet. Please note any books you think may work for the prompts. Here is the link for the planning spreadsheet:

88432 The March Mini Challenge has been announced. Here are the specifics:
March Mini Challenge:

Are you feeling comfy?
Are you enjoying the atmosphere in the hidden bar the mods have invited you to?
Are your glasses empty perhaps?
Well then, what are you waiting for? Let's order another round or two of cocktails! You will not be disappointed by them, we promise..

Part One
This is your cocktail menu. To be able to drink these, you will need to perform two tasks per cocktail.

Jack Sparrow's Sea Breeze
- Read a book with a turquoise cover.
- Read a book that relates to the cocktail - for example: the book takes place at sea, the cover shows the sea...

Wicked Witch of the West's Brass Monkey
- Read a book with a green cover.

Voldemort's Snakebite

Cover colours need to be >50%. The examples we have give are just that, examples and you do not need to read something from the examples given. Feel free to get creative! The book needs to make sense for each cocktail but for the rest, you are given free hand to make your books fit.

◈ Every book read is worth 10 points.
◈ Each book can be used for one task only.
◈ If your team reads for all 30 tasks, you get 30 points as bonus.

Part Two

After several cocktails, a lot of us tend to get a little creative - some more than others. Then again, a selection have shown their poetic prowess even before the challenge began and possibly without cocktail-influence.

Here is your chance to shine (again), now that you've drunken a multitude of cocktails: create your own cocktails!

You can use anywhere between two and six elements from your books to create a name for your cocktail along the lines of what the mods have done for the team names.

These are the elements you can choose to use from your books - any combination of these works:
- book title
- series title
- author name
- item on cover
- cover colour (no matter how much of it is found on the cover as long as one can actually detect it with the naked eye)
- name from the story (any character or named creature, you could even use the cat's name if you like)
- setting of the story (can be the entire setting, can be the setting of a single scene, whatever works for your creation)

The names of your cocktails do not have to be villain/troublemaker inspired. You could create a Miss Piggy's Pink Umbrella if you wanted. Or a Little Miss Sunshine's Bellini.

◈ Every book read is worth 10 points.
◈ Each book can only be used once for the mini challenge.
◈ No bonus points for completing this part as it is supposed to be fun. No pressure.

The usual:

◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1).
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on March 15, 9am UTC (Countdown: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...) and before April 1 at 9am UTC (when the April UNO month begins).

◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books from what you are claiming for your UNO hands.
◈ The usual book length rules apply.
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points.

Hi Alison,

Goodreads has updated the editions to include the UK audiobook. You are welcome to list it as red in the notes. We will probably use it as a Wild Draw 4 since it meets the Red 3 prompt.

I am going to request that the Goodreads librarians add the Uk audio to the editions. It's great that it will qualify as a red card. I have read this book and the first and find them entertaining but not page turners. I find them rather slow going.

Sure, it can be a buddy read if you want to discuss. And then it gives us another reverse. What book?

Since Patti plans to read a yellow skip, you can put yours under the Wild Draw 4. Or it's fine if it is just under the regular books with a note that it is yellow.

88432 Yes, this book works for Yellow and is on the UNO yellow book list. I always have used Katherine Center books in Uno because they are fast reads and usually can work for a color. And are enjoyable books.
