88432 Tif- no problem. I have a lifetime of having my name spelled wrong.

Patti- I am sorry to bug you about your book but it is the last book for us to complete for our challenge. If there is a chance you can't finish it by Thursday now would be a good time to let us know so someone else could read a quick book to fit the prompt.

88432 Hi Tif,

My name was misspelled on the drop down menus on the March tracking spreadsheet. I tried to correct it but now it looks like it is an error. Can you take a look- there are 2 i's in my name?

88432 I updated the thread for Patti's commitment.

88432 Hi Team!

We are almost done with the Mini (just 2 books to go and 2 team members are reading them.) So now it is time to think about March!

We have been dealt our hands and if you have done Uno before you know that the number of books we have to complete increase with each month. So this month we needed to read 15 hands of 7 books each, in March we need to read 16 hands of 7 books each. Our prompts are pretty well dispersed. My concerns are that we have 10 1s (might be time to look at some new series,) 10 5s (which is one of the harder cards to find) and 10 Reverses (take a look at your fellow teammates read shelves to see if something interests you.) Here are the color cards we will need. I already know a couple I can commit to read:

Blue
0 A Quantum Love Story - Mike Chen - standalone- Felicity
1
7
8
skip

Red
3- Patti
skip- Patti

Yellow
5
skip

Green
1
3
7
skip When Women Were Dragons- Kelly Barnhill- afn- Felicity

What is nice about this time in the challenge, is any book you start after February 1st and finish after March 1st can be used for March. What I have done in the past is started several books on the last week of the month and leave 10 pages to finish on the first day of the next month. Nice way to kick off the new month!

Here is our planning spreadsheet:

88432 I think so. "You go back that way and make a right." sounds like directions to me. The rule of thumb is just see if it works if you were describing how to get there to someone.

88432 We have completed the black text on the cover. I am going to start a book with a black cover but not sure how quickly I will finish it. If someone has one they are planning to read, let me know.

88432 Congratulations team! We have read all our regular UNO cards. There are still a few Mini Challenge prompts that no-one has committed to yet.

There are:

2 Directions in title- can be north, south, east, west, right, left, up, down, before, after, over, under, behind. If you can use it to give someone directions somewhere it works.

4 black covers

1 all black writing on cover

Please keep entering books on the spreadsheet, for the time being.

88432 Quick update- we are down to 4 books to read for the main UNO challenge. They are 3,4,6 and a wild which can be used for one of those or a 0 or a reverse. For the mini, we still need 2 Directions, 4 black covers, 1 black writing on the cover, 1 mixer and 3 herbs. I don't think we will have any problem finishing the mini, at the rate we have been going. Keep up the good work!

88432 Hi all,

We are chugging right along with this challenge. You all make this easy for your captains. However, every book we read now should be looked at closely for the Mini Challenge. If it doesn't meet any of the prompts on the top of the planner, chances are it will meet one of the prompts on the bottom. It looks like we have covered all the Spirits requirements but we still need some mixers (soda, water, tonic water, soft drinks, fruit juices and lemonade), fruit (anything that could be used as a garnish) and herbs and spices (used in drinks- mint, basil, cinnamon sticks.) If you read an ebook, it is very easy to search for particular items.

I have found a couple prompts on books that were entered today and entered them on the planner. Please try to find them going forward. If you have a question, feel free to ask.

Tif- just a reminder you are checking that books are on team members UNO shelves and they show with begin and end dates within UNO dates. I keep deleting Enemies and Lovers because it does not show a finished date and I think you keep marking it checked. I explained to Patti how she can fix it but she is busy now so I am waiting to see it marked with a finished date before I can use it on the spreadsheet.

88432 Alison- I can’t see any reason not to use orange. The rules do not specify the context just that it be a garnish for a drink.

Tiffany- so sorry you have been sick. Hope you are on the mend!

88432 I just finished our team's first book for the mini. Only If You're Lucky by Stacy Willingham It was a good thriller. I wouldn't recommend anyone start it this month because we can't use it again for the mini. These girls were drinking all the time so it was pretty easy to find the spirits prompt!

88432 The February Mini starts tomorrow. Here is the countdown by time zones.

Here is the thread for the mini.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I have added a tracking sheet to our tracking sheet. Here's the link.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Please take a look and see if you have any books that will fit these prompts. I am not sure it is necessary but for the ones that appear in text, please note a page number for where it appears.

I think this is a pretty simple Mini so be prepared because future ones may be more challenging. Remember, we can use the same books for UNO and the Mini.

Let me know if you have any questions. Happy Reading!
Feb 13, 2024 05:57AM

88432 I am working that out and I am unavailable most of today. I think the first half prompts are the harder to find. Right now I would say if you have a book that meets one of those, put it in this thread.

I will be reading The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride which has all black text on the cover and The Defense (Eddie Flynn, #1) by Steve Cavanagh which has a black cover.

Maybe Tiffany can see if she can copy the tracking sheet from the master or whether we can all input in the master for the mini. Also, could Tiffany post a link to the mini thread for those who haven't seen it?

Tiffany- I'm confused about your book The Body on the Doorstep. It is marked read on the spreadsheet but isn't on your uno shelf however there is another book, Dirty Laundry, on your Uno shelf which isn't on the spreadsheet and also does not appear long enough to be used for UNO.

88432 Hi all, We are doing really well on this challenge. We have read over half the books we need to read and we aren't even halfway through the month. The mini challenge starts on February 14th so look for the details in the next day or two. If you are reading something now, it might be a good idea to wait to finish it on the 14th or later to see if we can use it for the mini, too.

Keep on reading and updating the spreadsheet. And let us know if you have read something really good! We can always use some more reverse ideas.

Hi Patti-

Can you mark Enemies to Lovers read and move it to your UNO shelf? Were you still going to read Yellowface because this book works for yellow 6, too.

Twelfth Night should work if the number is over 100.
