88432 Yay Jenny! Nice to see your post. I too really liked Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I am in Cincinnati- where are you?

88432 Hi all-

Hope you are having a nice Thursday. I just wanted to let you know that I have heard from Jenny and she is having trouble posting in our thread. She has been reading our comments but is not able to respond. So we are all checked in!

88432 Welcome Ashley! I think your book is red enough to work. As for your advance reader copies (which I miss from the time I worked at a bookstore) I know a lot of future books show up on Goodreads before they are published. I was on a team with a librarian for Goodreads and she said you could request a book be added to Goodreads so that might be an option if the book isn't on it.

88432 I was going to wait to claim cards until we got closer but I don't think it is a problem now. I have books I plan to read that would match the 6Blue, the 3Green and the 5Red. I will probably start with The Swimmers by Julie Otsuka and claim the 6 Blue because that is the book I want to read first. I would only do one or both of the other two if no-one else claims them.

We are taking the easy ones first, lol. It's funny how many books have blue covers.

88432 Hi Jen,

Welcome to the team. I just loved The Invisible Life of Addie Larue but have never read anything else by V. E. Schwab. I am not a big fantasy reader but the book just hooked me and I thought was so clever and unputdownable. Is there another book of hers you would recommend?

88432 Welcome Joyce and Nicole. I really loved The Midnight Library both times I read it, Joyce.

Maybe we should call you Nicole E to differentiate. Or another nickname?

88432 Hi fellow team Sugar Gliders! As a person that loves sweets and baking, our team name is a good fit for me. Now if I could learn to fly!

I am Felicity and this is my third year playing UNO and my first year being co-captain. I live in Ohio and am a caregiver for my disabled husband and my tabby cat, Tiger. We have a 20 year old daughter who is away at college.

I enjoy reading Thrillers, Mysteries, Science Fiction, Chick-lit, General Fiction, some Historical Fiction and I try to get in more Non-Fiction every year. I am in 4 book clubs and one online challenge so some books I read are outside my regular genres.

Some of my favorites last year were:

The Measure by Nikki Erlick Speculative fiction- what would you do if you knew how long you would live and how would that effect society.

Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid . Taylor Jenkins Reid is a favorite author and this featured another strong but flawed female character. Fun to read during Wimbledon last year.

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus Probably on everyone's best list. Funny quirky story about sexual bias in the 60s in the science world.

The Brighton Mysteries by Elly Griffiths. The first one is The Zig Zag Girl (Stephens & Mephisto, #1) by Elly Griffiths . This a fun series that starts in the fifties with protagonists that were part of a WWII group who were called the Magic Men who were tasked into fooling the Nazi's during battle. After the war, one is a police officer, who solves crimes with the help of his friend, a magician. Interesting history and wry humor make these interesting reads. There are 6 of them so far.

A book I disliked reading recently was This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub I usually really like time travel but this was dull. I only finished it because I had to read it for a book club.

Here is my UNO shelf:https://www.goodreads.com/review/list....

I am really looking forward to getting to know all of you. I think you are all new to me. I will be sending friend requests to you all soon.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

88432 That's an interesting idea. From my experience, its the green and yellow covers that are hard to find. And you might want to wait until you see your team's color cards before investing too much time. On the other hand, I currently have 12 books out from the library waiting for Uno to start.

88432 I like your optimism Jenny. I am looking forward to focussing on the fun of Uno this year and hoping for chatty co-teammates. My favorite part of Uno is learning about new books or discussing books other teammates have read.

88432 📘 My earliest reading memory ; Like a couple others I remember fondly Hop on Pop.
📗 My favourite book growing up. I loved books with regular children who had magical powers.
📒 The book that changed me as a teenager. I read and reread A Tree Grows in Brooklyn a couple times. I wouldn't say it changed me but it was a comfort in those challenging years.
📗 The book I discovered later in life. I read Jane Eyre a couple years ago and was glad I now knew the cultural references. I think I would have loved the character like others do if I had read it when I was young.
📒The book I am currently reading. I am reading This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub for a book club. I love time travel books but this book has taken me a while to get into.

Looking forward to UNO!

88432 Hi all! Exited to start the new year with planning for UNO again. I am feeling brave and signed up to be a Captain or Co-Captain (which I have never done before.)
📕 Name Felicity
📕 Team Challenge experience UNO. I tried an individual challenge a couple years ago but didn't find it as fun as UNO.
📕 Have you joined UNO before? This is my third year.
📕 Favourite genres: Thriller, mystery/suspense, literary fiction, chick- lit, science fiction and speculative fiction, some historic fiction
📕 Book you can't wait to read in 2023 Remarkably Bright Creatures, some books that I own that I haven't read, new books from Katherine Center and Emily Henry and other favorite authors.

It’s funny that I love Fredrick Backman’s writing but have favorites and not so favorites of his. I loved loved Beartown, not the sequel as much (Us Against You.) OMG- I just saw the third one in the series listed in goodreads due to come out in October. I had a hard time getting into My Grandmother but loved loved Brit-Marie was here because I read Grandmother first. And I did not love A Man Called Ove and Anxious the way I did my favorites.

For thriller lovers, I should have mentioned Stranded, that a just finished yesterday. I keep thinking about it which is a sign of a good book.

88432 Funnily, I changed my rating system because of this challenge. I noticed I was giving a lot of 4s so I adjusted my numbers down.

Two of my favorites were The Paris Apartment and The Four Winds. But I also really liked Here and Now and Then, Moonlight in Odessa, The Life List and Dear Mrs. Bird.

I picked up a couple Sherlock Holmes books which I wouldn't have without this challenge. I wouldn't say I would read any more-I wasn't crazy about his writing style.

I was really dissatisfied with The Layover which was interesting until an improbable ending. I hate it when an author can't finish a story with a realistic conclusion.

I really liked most of what I read for this challenge. I tend to only pick up books that I have seen recommended by someone else so I have a higher than average expectation to like what I read.

88432 Great job everyone on this challenge this year! I enjoyed myself and read way more books than I would have read if not for this challenge. And read books that I never would have if not for this challenge.

I borrowed this from another team but thought it was an interesting idea.

What was the best book you read during UNO?

What book did you only read for UNO that you wouldn't have otherwise? Was it worth it?

Any terrible reads?

Would love to know your thoughts.

88432 Just finished Stranded by Sarah Goodwin , a nerve wracking thriller. So appropriate for my last book for this challenge. It works for 0, 3,4,6,8 cards. And it's blue if needed for that.

88432 I will be finishing my last book in the next 3 hours. It meets several cards. Out now and I’ll input when get home.
Apr 28, 2022 07:47PM

88432 Just finished One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle . Made me want to visit the Amalfi Coast. I should be able to finish one more book this challenge.
Apr 27, 2022 06:05PM

88432 @Laura- It looks like we have a lot of books left to read. Do you think there is a chance we won't complete the challenge? I can probably get to another book or 2 if that would help. Any particular categories I should look for?

88432 Just finished Yours Cheerfully (The Emmy Lake Chronicles, #2) by A.J. Pearce . This and Dear Mrs. Bird are Books 1 and 2 in a series about a couple young women in London in the 1940's during WW2. The main character is a magazine employee who starts as an assistant to an advice columnist who champions to offer practical advice to women on the home front. The second book focuses on women's rights in factory work. They are funny, sweet, sad in places and warm with friendship, romance and family relationships. I recommend them both.
