Hello! I have a few WWII novels I'd eventually like to read, but I got a little burned out on WWII, also. Someday I'll circle back around to them.

88432 Just want to double check this cover. I think it works for 2 yellow. Tineye says 54.9% yellow.

88432 I'm so excited to see some more mystery/suspense fans here! I love Inspector Ganache!

And I think Lessons in Chemistry is in my February lineup. My hold on Overdrive says about two weeks...it feels like I've been waiting forever!

88432 Clarification Question:
So once the planning spreadsheet is up and running, we can start adding books we think we'll read/are planning to read, correct? Then we'll come back and enter the date finished after they are read AND move them to the uno shelf.

Will captains enter all the books from the tracking/planning sheet onto the official team sheet or do you want us to do that?

88432 Edit: I didn't follow directions at all. I just started talking. I'll fix it. 😂

Hello everyone! I'm Denise(she/her) and I'm so excited to play uno this year! I think this is my 3rd year playing? Maybe 4th?

I live in the U.S. (Iowa) and work in a public library. It's a very bad job for keeping my tbr under control. I have three boys that all run in high school or college, so I spend a lot of time at track meets and running events. I'm not afraid to pull out my Kindle in the bleachers. 😂

I wanted to pop in and say hi, but I'm on my phone right now. I'll try to link my shelf...if I can't get it to work from the mobile site, I'll come back and fix it later.
My shelf: uno-2023

Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Here are some book recommendations from me:
Mary Jane
Nothing to See Here
I love The Thursday Murder Club series (they're like The Golden Girls meet James Bond. I love the whole series).

88432 I get really anxious that something will happen when I'm in team challenges and I won't meet my monthly commitment. So while everyone else saves up cover colors, I have a stash of 250 pages books in case it looks like I'm running out of time and need to read one in an evening to catch up. 😂

I know nobody would really be mad if "life happened" but it makes me feel better about signing up when I think I'll be busy at work, etc.

Sean Connery was my favorite. I'm fine with Daniel Craig, but didn't like Pierce Brosnan as Bond.

I love this idea, but having recently sat in on a 4 hour school board meeting discussing "inappropriate library materials," it might also give me nightmares. I do love the idea though...maybe as a college class. Lots of schools do mini classes for one or two credits. I could see this really working there!

I love these discussions. Our culture and our language also evolve and that changes what might make us uncomfortable. Our language around mental health and certain types of disabilities has changed sooo much over the past 50 years. I just read something from 1980 with some cringe-worthy terminology, but they were using the language of the time.

88432 The only Murakami I've read is After Dark.

1Q84 has been sitting on my shelf for about six years though.

I definitely don't think we should re-write history. If people forget, it's too easy to repeat it and I think we're starting to see that now. In the case of GWTW, I think it stirred up some mixed emotions because I wanted to see Scarlett succeed and run a business and manage things a woman wasn't allowed to manage in that time period, but then found myself saying, "oh yeah...she uses people and she's a racist."

It's a very discussion-worthy book, for sure!

She's a perfect example of the flawed protagonist. It was a huge deal that she broke gender stereotypes in the 1930s...but yep. She's super racist. I felt conflicted about continuing to read, but I did want to know how it ended.

88432 I'm still deciding if I'll really have time to play this year. I've enjoyed it the last three years, but I think we have a busy spring ahead of us. This thread is not helping me make the "responsible" decision. 😂
